Heads up: if you are with OVO energy double check your account I was paying £207/ month but the actual usage has been ~50. This is partly my fault for not checking my account sooner and I will get it back but it's still a bad miscalculation on their part I'm sure I'm not the only one.

I have a friend on the outer Hebrides, she stopped using her white meter heaters as she can’t afford it, yet they’ve still been taking money out of her account, so she’s now £1400 in credit. She’s applied to get that money back, and it’s dragging on, they have now told her they will refund her £900 but they will keep £500 in their account. She’s not rich by any means, she doesn’t work due to ill health, she has two daughters, one who is over 16 and one younger. But they are dragging their heels in refunding it. I’ve told her to phone everyday and annoy them, and to email the CEO

By law they cannot keep any money that you are in credit.

Talk to citizens advice.

Got my refund within 3 days of asking. Based on my prices the energy crisis is a lot of tripe, ~£12/week during the summer and even if it triples over the winter factor in the £400 grant I'll still be under 25 quid a week.

i am with OVO energy and i have looked in the help page about refunds, there is a criteria the person must meet so chat to ur friend ask them to download OVO app , go to bottom page ( help) click it , the proceed to bill & payments where she will see how they explain getting refund in detail and Criteria she must meet , plus why they keep aside X amount off money . Hope it helps , there customer serbice is like all other companys the now Shit

Fairly sure she will have a phone or the Internet?

glasgow

I m with them and cancelled the DD as it was way too much they estimated the readings way out .

Just pay what it is per month based on meter readings and use age they are like all these companies they want to hold onto your money even if your in credit as they get the interest .

No one has to do DD they can’t force you either .

Agree about customer service was put on hold and sent around the houses then line went dead !!!

Unfortunately we are all in same boat have no choice and are at their mercy and they know it .

Aye with OVO,

Put in a new combi June last year and just left my account the same.

Didn't really think about it till march this year with the first rise. To my surprise they came and fitted new smart meters inside my boxes. Never got a letter they just came and did it.

They asked me to up my DD in April which I did but have yet to spend my previous monthly DD let alone the new one so have a very large in credit. Will see what happens over winter and worry about it at the start of the year
