Total novice here but have been roped in to do a 2 day +100mile charity race (running, biking, other).
Have a year to prepare but keen to start now to form better habits.
Can any of you kind people point me in the right direction for training schedule and nutrition sites/apps that would assist me?
Even tips and experience advice would be grand.
I've no idea if this kind of post pops up regularly so apologies if so. |

There are a few fitness threads in the Lounge.
If you have FB you might find a local PT that does a group in a local park. There are a few round about me. |

A year is plenty of time to get fit for that type of event unless you want to win it.
It’s an endurance event so just concentrate on volume at a low heart rate in zones 1 & 2. (Lots of info online re heart rate zones).
Lots of cycling and running at a pace you can have a conversation in. It’s boring AF but it’s the backbone of all endurance sports.
Eat healthily which depends on what’s defined as healthy this week but if you can be as light as you can manage then any endurance sport will be easier.
Good luck! |

Everything you require too up your fitness or lose weight is available to you....free of charge pti's are worthless imo.Its YOU who will need to put in the work. Its YOU who will have to make the dietary changes. Whether it is you setting the work and dietary regime or someone charging you to set the regimes its the same result you need to do the work.
A year is a lot of time to make these changes dont be disheartened when you plateu which is where most fail its easy to be overjoyed at the first few weeks weight loss then be disheartened as it slows down. |

I’m not far from you. Drop me a PM, our local triathlon club always welcomes new members of all abilities. Great running training and regular cycling rides and training for all abilities. Lord knows I’m far from being super fit, but it’s great support. |

Hey, good on you, I was the same 12 years ago, I didn’t have a clue, I started off by running 1:7 miles, the following day I could hardly walk, I repeatedly did this every second day and after around 10 days upped it to 2.5 miles, 50 plus marathons later and 2 x 100 mile races done. As for nutrition maybe start by cutting out anything heavy or stodgy, maybe look at parkrun on a Saturday morning. Id happily pass on any advice and wish you good luck! |

OP you could play the theme tune to Benny Hill on a loop on your headphones and chase the scantily clad Fabsters around a park. ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |
