Will Smith Slapgate

Jump to: Newest in thread

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

So, what does the group think of Will Smith slapping Kevin Hart for the GI Jane quip?

So far I've heard:

1. Kevin's fault and he deserved it,

2. Will Smith's fault for his loss of emotional stability.

3. Jada's fault for having Will in such an unstable relationship

And my favourite so far......

4. White supremacy (I kid you not!!)

Votes or alternatives please.....

Jada isn't responsible for her husband's actions. He's an adult so can decide what he should/should not do.

Having said that, if the rumours are true then their relationship is a bit mixed up and I think he's ultimately been left feeling emasculated. Hence the unpredictable outburst and behaviour.

Kevin Hart?

You mean Chris Rock?

Allegedly Will Smith is going through some mental issues and as said above, if everything is true that you hear, Jada has totally emasculated him and he's just lashing out, it was a distasteful joke but Will Smith still laughed until he seen Jada wasn't, then she was laughing shortly after right before the slap. Wasn't that long ago she was on live television absolutely humiliating Will Smith about there relationship, it might be a open one but it's very one sided.

Hopefully Kevin Hart can recover from this...

Let's say you (OP) go to a Billy Connolly show, you take offence at a joke at your expense, you hop on the stage and gie the big yin a slap... Very quickly you'll find yourself arrested and charged with assault.

The same should happen to Will Smith.

It is never OK to resort to violence.

Smirking, self-righteous multi-millionaires have a pointless spat at an event where their free goody bag handouts are worth more than most of us earn in a year. I couldn't give a hoot how these no-marks treat each other.

Chris Rock haha, yeah, total fuckup there.

There' no excuse for it and I think he has opened the door for any non-white person to go on a slapfest at comedy clubs. If it had been a white guy the police would have ambushed him.

And as for Jada, I think Missmuff is right. Its a toxic relationship and she has mentally worn the guy down to the level we saw on stage. I feel sorry for him but regardless of that he should be charged to set an example that violence is not acceptable.

Agreed.

Comedians now will refuse to do shows now in fear of being assaulted, you know, since it was practically celebrated when Will Smith done it.

Read a lot of stuff online and various reactions. A lot of folk asking the question if the response would have been less sympathetic if a white celeb had smacked Chris Rock. I personally think it would have been.

Regardless though, it can't be condoned as it opens up the floodgates for anyone getting chibbed who says anything remotely offensive. I'd be walking about with 2 permanent black eyes

the land of unicorns and fairytales

Women want men to stand up for them and they moan about it

Men don’t stand up for women and they moan about it

Guys nowadays don’t know how they’re meant to react but one thing for me is that it shouldn’t resort to violence, it’s only words yeah it’s not nice and very untasteful but he should never have resorted to violence go up take the mic explain why it’s not an appropriate joke to make and belittle him for the comment but don’t take to violence

As for comedians well to me the minute a so called comedian has to start making fun at others he’s no longer funny in my book he’s just taking cheap shots and no better than a bully

I thought that at the time too. Will Smith could have made his point in his acceptance speech and would have looked all the better for it.

Will Smith making fun of a bald guy in the days when a joke was just a joke.

It was all wrong. The joke was out of order, the slap was OTT given the occasion - he could have called him out for it in his speech or at the after ceremony interviews if hadn't won. Had it been in a pub then a slap may well have been in order, but not in front of the world!

If half the planet was talking about me I'd rather it was for a full on run up and boot square in the stones. Not a wee girly slap.

Sad he had to resign the academy tho. Do I agree with the slap no but think it was a cheap shot at his wife.

Any other walk of life be more than a slap

Imo, I don't think white supremacy is anything to laugh about. Racism is vile, it's built into our society and it did play a large part of the context of what happened at the Oscars.

Just saying.

Kevin Hart 100% deserves a wee slap, just for the giggle, but it was Chris Rock.

Personally think Smith was out of order. He’s a celeb at an awards show, comedians are paid to make such quips, bad taste or not.

I think he acted emotionally as I think he’s a bit broken from the current state of his marriage and lashed out at the wrong person. I think she has and is abusing some sort of control she has over Will and he needs to walk away.

But really, I know hee haw at the end of the day.

He could have stood up for his wife without slapping him

I think his job is to roast the audience. It was just too close to the bone

Black man slaps another black man and a white man is apologising? Did I read that right?

His black and famous privelidge is what kept him out of jail. A white guy would be behind bars and cancelled for that stunt.

Matt Smith should never have backhanded The Rock. But he smelled what the Rock was cooking.

Hail the academy!

Good advertising though, didnt know the Oscar's was on.

Seriously? You’re on a swingers site and having a go at their relationship? They’ve said they have an open relationship many times and Jada sees other men. How does that emasculate him when he agrees to it?

Chris Rock should not be making jokes of a medical condition. Will Smith shouldn’t have slapped him but it didn’t look as if it even left a mark.
