A "Shark Duoclean". 2 brush bars for picking almost anything up. Especially useful if you have pets.

Another vote for Shark. I got one to replace a Dyson and it was much better. They have really good warranties as well and great customer service.

Have one but the brush broke quite quickly, also quite fiddly to empty, not too sure I'd recommend it.
