Genuinely not sure what advice to give the OH so throwing it out to the Fab masses.

She's been given a Xmas gift of a watch from a female friend / colleague. Not a cheapo or an expensive one but she doesn't like it .

What would you do, women's thoughts to front of the queue but all advice welcome.

First would be re gift to someone not in both circles

As you don’t want original gifter to see it and go I got so and so the same watch for xmas and they go ooo that same person gave me it as birthday gift

If that’s not a option google the vaule and re sale on eBay or something

Keep it if she values her friendship. If it were me and I found out she'd passed it on or sold it I'd never give her the time of day again!

Over there

I'm assuming the gifter isn't expecting to see it worn each day?

I've been known to sit on a gift for a year or so, then regift it...

E.K . Glasgow

She could wear it once when on an outing with the friend then it goes in the back of a drawer or to a charity shop .

That's what I said , only go out once or twice a year so it's not so bad I think.

The flaw in not telling her is that she thinks she has done good with the watch so next time it could be even worse..

I'd have the conversation and between us then surely we'd come up with a solution.

Glasgowish

I would keep it but only wear it when around the person who gave it to me.

She could tell her friend it's lovely, but I only wear this other watch because... whatever sentimental excuse works (ie. Gift from a deceased relative, anniversary present etc.) that the other person would understand.

Central Borders

How likely is it that this was an unwanted gift in the first place that was handed on to your OH? Not sure how close her and this friend are, but doesn't really sound like they'd normally buy each other expensive watches.

Either way, I'd probably wear it once or twice when meeting up with this person to avoid any potential awkwardness x

You’ve given her a watch . Op she isn’t all that keen on it . Suck it up and if she decides to keep it or pawn it it’s the thought that counts . Maybe stop throwing yer money around

Could she say she’s allergic to the metal?

I’m allergic to nickel and watch straps often have nickel in them.

Get her tattooed on each wrist. Left - a bit of squared sausage drawn on with the words I love meat below it.

Right - the face of the wee guy on Pringles cans.

Tell your friend that can't wear watches anymore cos it would hide your awesome tattoos. Panic over!
