Do we say enough is enough.

It's getting closer and closer to the point where we riot for WMLMT , yes folks white men's lives matter too. Doesn't matter if your qualified , as long as your black , female or disabled you MUST employ these people or your company is racist , sexist or discriminatory. I'm all for equality but not to the detriment of better qualified hard working people being overlooked to fulfil quotas.

Thoughts peeps.

My thoughts?

What a pile of shite.

If you think that is happening, on any sort of big scale then you are deluded.

And there we have it, if your not in %100 agreement with the world you must be one of those types. Having an opinion is fine BFG but you don't make a stronger point by throwing accusations at others opinions. Keep it up though your proving my point.

People get hired for jobs a lot even if they aren't the most qualified. For various reasons.

What you've listed is well, I'll say again a load of shite.

Did you get turned down for a job and they hired a disabled, black lesbian by chance?

The disabled black lesbian was less qualified too.

I’m a qualified female! Much more qualified for the job I do over most men in the company! I however often get treated differently in meetings surrounded by the opposite sex, as I’m in a “Mans” job. Your post is absolute shite. And I’d think the “I’m all for equality” part was the biggest lie you’ve told today.

You being over qualified for the job you do is down to you, if you feel that way then go for a new job that reflects your qualifications, if you say your being held back by your company then thats discrimination and I would ask why you've not fought it. There's no such thing as a man's or woman's job unless your a male stripper of course which I'm sure you wouldn't have the credentials for.

Interested to know more about your job situation and whether it really is your issue or the company's issue. Your situation doesn't really show I'm talking shite.

We are on a site that promotes sexual equality. Why should the rest of life be any different? Drop the labels, we are all different but the same and nowadays there should be no discrimination, just people being happy with who they are x

OP you’re gripe is with a perceived positive discrimination regardless of its origin (sex race religion etc). In many regards many have been neglected and hampered historically as a result. To the extent sometimes that they are not always able to break through “qualified” barriers. Things are changing I hope in that regard and the concept of positive discrimination has helped those old fart white male stereotypes to wake up a bit. Be open minded. Oh what’s the word … non-discriminating.

Give it 20 years and we might be there finally (in this country).

My comments weren’t directed at you or your situation. Bigger picture. And I have no problem with public signs of supporting minorities or repressed people until such has been addressed. I'm recruiting at present.

I've not been given any indication of quotas.

There are other factors that I need to assess.

I have to determine the skills they bring, how that compliments or challenges the current team, and more importantly, do they have the ability to excel and progress. I'm not thinking about this vacancy, but do they have the potential for promotion.

The challenge is budget, in terms of what salary I can offer, versus some candidates expectations for higher salaries, when their skills just don't match up.

Diversity brings an added dynamic and strength to the team.

Having changed jobs recently, I've been on both side. It's an interesting market. It's not easy.

The reality is that quotas don't exist. It's a convenient excuse for when you don't get that job, when the truth is the candidate wasn't the right fit.

Lots of what you say is spot on bud , but quotas most certainly exist too, after a 5 second Google search here's an article I found straight away.

Diversity quotas - a quick overview

Diversity quotas are a system used to increase the number of under-represented groups into specific positions by requiring that a specific percentage of those in that position are of a given gender or ethnicity.

The thinking is that since members of specific groups are subject to systematic disadvantages and biases, having quotas will offset these effects and balance out diversity in a real, measurable way.

However, this approach is often met with resistance.

Critics of diversity quotas accuse them of being unfair, divisive and short-sighted.

?

Diversity quotas UK - are they legal?

The short answer: yes, diversity quotas are completely legal here in the UK, whether it be to increase the number of women, people from ethnic minority backgrounds or any other protected group.

This being said, employers would still need to tread very carefully when it comes to filling these quotas.

Whilst positive action is legal, positive discrimination is not.

If two candidates equally qualified candidates are in a tie-breaker situation, it’s legal to hire the candidates from an under-represented group under the Equality Act 2010.

I'm definitely not using it as an excuse either, I've been happily self employed for 18 years so it doesn't affect my point of view in the least. My bugbear is getting it rammed down my throat as mentioned earlier, through the media every 5 minutes.

Unfortunately in NI where I worked there was positive discrimination in jobs. For example the 50/50 recruitment of police officers. As one community were unwilling to join the police, other suitable candidates were rejected, therefore the require recruitment targets could not be met.

Another example was a friend worked for a large organisation with 2 seperate facilities, due to local demographics, during recruitment they had to place in their adverts, we welcome applicants from the xx community, which ever were the minority community in the location of the plant.

My case was the boss manager joked that I was there to make up the quota.

In 2014 Nicola Sturgeon announced her first cabinet which was 50/50 male/female. I couldn't care less what the split was infact i actually think women do politics better than men (priti Patel excluded lol) but it always struck me that it miraculously being 50/50 was more about being pc than the right person for the job. I don't want this thread to turn political but it's the highest example of what OP is getting at that I know of.

Here's something for you guys to have some thoughts about.

Apart from a few respectful comments and joining a discussion, bear in mind forget race , religion, blm, women or any other minority group, for simply airing my opinion I've been:

Called deluded

Accused of being against equality

Talking a load of shite

Called a bellend

I'm a failed job hunter apparently

I've lied

I'm an angry butt hurt guy

I have backward thoughts

My banter is shite

Called a troll

Told to get a life

I apparently blame others for my own inadequacy

My profile stands for stupidity

Called a twat

I whine like a little bitch

And Called a knob

Ooooook. Now that's because I differ in opinion from some of you. Really ???

You guys are definitely showing me how tolerant you are to others.

So by that analogy one could say there's a reason why some women don't progress because the majority of men at the top can do and say what they like and treat women how they please as they have the agreement of the majority. If the majority of opinions on a subject must be correct then your saying the men at the top are right as the minority of women are just twats. Going by your summing up of the way this thread has gone anyways.

Somewhere over there

"Unfortunately in NI where I worked there was positive discrimination in jobs.

My case was the boss manager joked that I was there to make up the quota."

I’ve had that as well-in one fell swoop I cover 3 protected characteristics so I know I’m the ‘tick box’ for some employers under the ‘diversity’ or ‘disability’ box but when you experience micro-aggressions of racism/audism on a daily basis, it becomes wearing.

I wrote a piece after the George Floyd murder about my views/experiences, how others should educate themselves and how we can try and build a more understanding world. Some of my friends came back to me and apologised as they realised they had done one of those things to me (in all ignorance) and I’ve helped educate them. That’s all I want but as others have said, if it needs to be profiled by things such as BLM/Give Racism the Red Card etc then go for it.

Hey millie,

Can I ask millie , do you educate those same people every day . I know you and your a lovely lady so I already know that answer . No you don't. That's the only point I make in this thread , the fact that it is thrust upon us every day , as someone said earlier it gets rammed down our throats. That's my only gripe, I would stand shoulder to shoulder with you or anyone else if I ever witnessed it and even being told your the tick box person for a company is so wrong too.

I would say though There's quite a few that need educated in here about how they themselves treat others . How many items on my list above would you put up with Millie.

Thoughts.

Wow…firstly, where did you get this from? Jobs don’t have quotas to fill and if they do it’s to provide more diversity in the workplace. Not to exclude qualified people from jobs,

White mens lives matter????? Have you missed European history for the last forever years? White mens lives have mattered plenty, to the detriment of every other non white male. That’s the point, white men have been living in a world of near total dominance since about always. Adjusting the rules to let other people have a fair chance, even at the expense of the poor poor white male, is justified and fair.

Using the BLM idea to your WMLMT is a clear indication of how little you understand of what that moment means or represents.

I could go on and get really deep with why and how misguided this statement is. However, I doubt it would do much good. My thoughts OP, read a book not written by a white man, empathise with people not like you and consider the historical context of racial privilege. Most of all though…just what the fuck

I love I’m a Women in the job I do, when years ago that wouldn’t have been possible. I strive with the challenges it brings. But men like you will always make it hard with your backwards thoughts!

Sorry to post again.

I feel that in no way is it a negative to point out when people say things or act in a manor which is at best misguided and at worst discriminatory. You are correct though no need for abuse, and I apologise if my first post was a little strong.

However, the ‘Cancel culture’ argument is pretty flawed. Gas lighting some would call it. You posted something grossly ill-informed and by today’s standards pretty out there. You’re entitled to your view but publicly it’s not acceptable so you’re going to get some feedback.

OP would anything anyone said or gave as evidence to show you your view on this is factually incorrect and could be persevere as discriminatory change your mind? I’m curious

No need to apologise bud, your free to post as often as you want, especially when it's a fair point unlike some of the hypocritical posts made.

I have certainly agreed with lots of good points but my overall point continues . I totally agree that any sort of discrimination is wrong but as said about 5 times now I'm tired of hearing it and seeing it everywhere and being stigmatised because I'm not promoting more support of it.

If that opinion is wrong then I will just need to live with it as will others, I'm safe in the knowledge that I have zero racist thoughts or discriminatory thoughts against others.

You mention going back through history , I'm pretty sure we are a good bit passed the culture of our ancestors. When do we stop banging the drum bud , if your after a eutopia it's never gonna happen I'm afraid. There will always be those in power and those below.

You’re right as long as you are happy with yourself and comfortable with the opinions you have - it’s your life.

I’m not sure anyone would be criticising for not actively supporting equality in work, but openly arguing against it is definitely going to draw criticism.

As for being past the culture of our ancestors. I completely disagree, we live in a direct result of our cultural history. Racism, sexism and discrimination of disabilities are engrained into our culture in all areas, that’s a hard fact to face if you are part of the group not facing it. Ultimately, if you think that there should be fair chance, opportunity and no discrimination against anyone - the first step is realising the game is rigged for most people from the start.

Actually there’s some people who constantly do Audism and have that deaf ‘joke’ or blatantly mis-spell my proper name, despite it being in my emails and already heard how to pronounce it verbally, so yes there are some people who choose not to be educated, despite my best efforts.

As someone said further in the thread-read books written by POC, get involved in other cultural events (eg Glasgow Mela a good example) and learn about historical oppression and realise that there is still white male privilege around; we need to work together to show it isn’t right and justice for all means bringing that subject up front and centre for people to change.

In this day and age I unfortunately its not equality that is looked for it's equality of outcome which is an entirely different beast.

3 candidates apply for a job the most qualified a single male exemplary record proven attendance and ability to take on extra workload won't receive the position.

The second most qualified a married white female works her shifts with little extra work available due to family commitments attendance is slightly worse due to having to take kids to school and leave early to pick them up was a serious contender but again did not receive the position.

The 3rd candidate a black female activist for lqbtq rights. Who is barely qualified for the position attendance is not the greatest but champions any fringe groups grievances loudly and is currently looking for a sperm doner to help her have a child receives the position not due to merit but to fill the companies quota.

This is equality of outcome and its a terrible precedent to set imo.

Now this concerns me millie if I'm honest, here you are telling me to read books and stand up to this white privilege and educate myself , yet here you are now saying if the people that really can effect change on your situation can't be bothered why should you waste any more time with it. The law is on your side but you choose not to continue the fight yet for me I've got to educate myself and fight for the cause even though I'm neither the perpetrator nor the victim.

Equality of opportunity should be more important than equality of outcome.

For a start, everyone is much more than being a colour, race, gender, ability etc. Categorising creates more division.

Equality of outcome is more likely to result in the best person for a job not necessarily getting it. This in turn leads to poorer standards.

Tayside, Midlands and Chester

This is the exact population makeup of the UK:

87.2% White, 3% Black, 2.3% Indian, 1.9% Pakistani, 2% mixed, 3.7% other

You would not believe this looking at tv adverts of late, proportionality in soaps etc.

The above figures are factual, not racist FACT check them and see.

The tail is wagging the dog in the UK and the media and woke are blind to the actual makeup of the UK.

My thoughts are that you created this post to start drama/arguments

And yet the only people causing drama and arguments are the people throwing insults and abuse . There has been quite a few posts that have engaged in a discussion over my post. Think it simply goes back to if I don't think like you I must be somehow looking for drama or argument. It's hardly an attitude that promotes discussion "

Your opening post was deliberately aimed to antagonise by the way it was worded. So you're now claiming the high ground because you don't like the words other people used. In other words, trolling.

It's truly sad that that's the only way some people can get attention. But it looks like you got what you wanted, so I'm sure you're happy.

Drama and argumentative from your post. I never deliberately tried to antagonise anyone , I simply had a rant in the forums as hundreds of others do daily and asked for thoughts on my rant. I'm also not claiming any high ground, middle ground or low ground I'm simply pointing out that using names like trolling is causing the drama. Where is the drama in my original rant.

Maybe not deliberately, but the use of White men’s lives matter is clearly going to antagonise a lot of people?

Also reading through all this, why I have I don’t know, some of the supporting arguments and FACTS for the ‘unfair’/discriminatory treatment of white males with regards to employment opportunities are laughable. Just giving some made up or clearly shaky third hand example does not a case make.

Don’t worry, white men still hold all the cards and will do for a while, patriarchy, racism and intolerance of change are a strong hand. The answer to the original question OP, white men have lots of advantages and always have. So no it’s not about time, it’s been that time forever.

I’m actually not going to use the forums anymore. I don’t think this sort of stuff is constructive and I see too much of it. Not a dig at you OP it’s just not the place to discuss this sort of thing in a considered or enlightening way.

So you see too much stuff that has a different opinion to yours as non constructive and say your gonna leave the forums but I can't say I'm fed up seeing it everywhere . You can say I have white privilege but I can't say anything back without being judged as racist ect.

You say this is not a place to discuss in a considered and enlightening way, where would you like to discuss it , or would you prefer nobody has a platform to discuss anything that differs from your opinions.
