JUST WONDERING WAT ONE GIVES THE BEST TV AND BROADBAND SERVICE ?????? IVE BEEN WAY SKY FOR YEARS NOW BUT THINKING ABOUT CHANGING TO VIRGIN BUT DONT REALLY KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT IT SO ALL INFO WELCOME THANKS  |

Hi cheesy...
Both have their good and bad points... If its purely on price then play them off against each other on the phone... "Virgin can offer me xyz for £xx... can you beat it", then go to Virgin and say the same.
If its broadband speed then Virgin at the moment have more areas that can get superfast... were on 100mb and at the router, thats what we get. By the time it gets through wifi and shared between loads of devices, we get around 30mb on the laptops.
If you use it for xbox gaming then Sky would be better (as they use BT's backbone) and Virgin are well known for bad latency and causes lag on games like COD etc.
Virgin Tivo service, if you were thinking of that, knocks spots off Sky.... 3 tuners, learns the type of programmes you watch and automatically records them for you and makes suggestions as to what you may want to see.
Also can search by actor, director etc, so we can if wanted, record ANY programme upcoming that has 'morgan freeman' in it, even if its not yet on the schedule.
Sky has better HD (slightly) and much more 3d if thats your bag... but charge you for the 3d.
Virgin has a better on demand service, which if on Tivo, has a seperate broadband connection so it doesnt interfer with normal broadband. Sky's on demand comes through the normal broadband, that could be as low as 3mb speed.
You can check if you are in a BT Infinity area, that gives fibre to the cabinet and should then get around 20 to 80mb... and Sky may be able to use that in your area... again, you would need to check.

Obviously with Sky, weather like we have today wll interfere with the signal quality.

Got Virgin here basic TV package! Extras seem pricey but we don't watch that much that we miss movies or Sport.Or enough to justify the additional cost. Broadband good,just need to figure out how to boost wifi signal so we can connect in the extension and downstairs bedroom! 
Also be interested in connecting TV to broadband either hard wire or wifi? Any pointers?  |

If you have the virgin super hub, then get a second router and put the SH into modem only mode and use the new router as your main wifi.
Or, buy extenders that use the 240v ring main in your house.
Plug one end into the socket near ur modem/router and connect it to router and then reciever downstairs. That then re-transmits the wifi.

Thanks Steve, now could you repeat that in plain english?
We've got one wee black box thats first connection from outside cable coming in. Then we have a white box think thats the wireless bit, its got an aerial! Will need to enquire about a super hub!
Using ring main sounds good as I think it would be physically impossible to hardwire to extension now.

Try homeplugs, if you have a spare socket at your tv and router.
the wireless on my tv was well ropey so changed to the plugs......no issues since i did. |

to get the superhub you gotta pay for 30 meg package the white box your on now only handles upto 20 meg your area may be due for the doubleup if it pushes you over 20 meg you get superhub sent out to fit yourself at no cost or 30 instalation fee if tech does it |

Virgin Do not believe in net neutrality so your money supports the systematic destruction of the internet Starting with the site you are using right now.
sky tv is best with HD AND SKY+ However they are really on par with BT when it comes to internet BT with line rental and calls Is cheaper long term I find BT is most honest about the speed your connection can be if you can get "infinity" Speeds it would be unmatched by any other ADSL provider.
This option-
Freeview HD running from a windows media center pc connected to your tv and a netflix acount Running iTunes. (and a few Choice torrent programs  ) with a BT broadband connection.
is the best option IMO |
