My boy pestered me for ages to get him a metal detector and I caved. After 2 hours of him searching for ‘treasure’ at the beach I was close to drowning him in the sea.
That being said he did find £3 in total in the sand….oddly enough I was short £3
Don’t do it in January, it is not fun. |

"I know someone that does this and he says it's good for his mental health
I can understand that. I’d imagine it’s a bit of stress relief. Something to rake your mind if things fir a bit . "
The guy said it was similar to me going fishing, getting away from it all |

I think any pastime is good for giving you that peace to your brain. I’m also keen in local history so it’s got that added interest in detecting around fields and old dwellings . |

"I would like a metal detector as walk miles and often wondered if I was walking on buried treasures."
I often think along those lines. That’s why I got the detector . When I’m out in the country I’m always looking at the land for signs of historic habitation. |

A drone with a camera would help with this |

I'm a detectorist and as has been said it is very good for mental health.
You have just got to remember that all land is owned in Scotland and to detect on it without permission can carry a big fine or even jail.
I found that going to local farms and talking to the owner that you can quite easily get permission. Happy hunting. |

Yes I am aware of the need for permission and the protection historical sites hold. For now I’ll just stick to sone beaches until I get off the ground .. any help or advice you can give is always greatly appreciated . |
