Think most of us have been there at some time in our lives & it's neither nice nor easily dealt with. I was unemployed for a while & found it extremely difficult to cope. I didin't see it coming & wouldn't have admitted to it any way but I now realise that I was really quite depressed. Thankfully with the help & support of people I could condfide in, I came out the other side. My key learning from the experience was to recognise it, admit it to myself & talk about it. I hope this helps you, if you need it to?!

Google "moodjuice" or can phone breathing space for advice. Also your GP or NHS 24 can help. Your local area will also have counselling services which can be accessed, might be best to google it.
Can PM me if needing any other info. |

I was in a very dark place when i was diagnosed with cervical cancer in jan of 2002 but thankfully after waiting way to long to seek attention i finaly got the help i needed and was on antidepressants for a long time but that combined with counselling i was in a much better place in no time .
First port of call is your Gp tell him/her everything and tell them what you think has triggerd it dont hold back any info because that can hinder how they begin to treat you .
I still suffer from anxiety and i think that is something that will never leave me but with the help of a great counselling service through my employers i manage very well x
Good luck hun but please seek help sooner rather than later xxx |

Everything you tell a doctor is fully confidential, nothing you tell them will affect a future job/insurance/anything. Good luck. |

I (mrs dlt) also suffer from depression, and some days I can be so low that I wish I could just disappear,
It took me a while before I went to the Doctor as am meant to be the strong one,
I am glad I did have been on my happy pills as we call them, and I don't care if am on them for ever,
Had a down period this week went for a bath and had a good cry, don't be afraid to cry,
Hope that helped a wee bit, |

I suffered from depression a few years ago, got help very early on and had great support. The stigma of mental health issues is not as real as you think it is when you are down.
Good luck to all who struggle at times... there is great help and when going for counselling, if you don't connect with the first, go to someone else. The key is the connection.
I also think that the features on a swingers site can help on some occasions, can severely hinder in others.
all the best |

Your current / future employer can indeed request a medical report - however, you have the legal right to refuse. Alternatively, you can agree to a medical report but request to see it first. Generally, a doctor will only report in what they are asked.
Your employer cannot dismiss you on capability grounds unless they have conclusive proof that you are unable to do your job due to your illness.
Your health has to come first, I have a very stressful job that holds a lot of responsibility. I have suffered with depression on and off for years, my employers knows and supports me and trusts me to manage my health to the benefit of my self and the company.

my advice with depression is 'recognise it, own it and do something about it'
and if it creeps back, you know the signs... don't delay.
I personally have never been happier, more content and enjoying life. If there is negativity in your life and you are able to cut it out, do it...others can keep you down. I have changed careers and although I loved every day of my previous roles... I don't carry the same volume of responsibility and it feels great.
again all the best..
the forums are to share all types of experiences.

Yes it's a sex site ...... BUT, you have a choice to either get involved in helping others or you can be very small & quite frankly selfish minded when someone asks for help!!!
If someone asked for advise on how to give a blow job, would you say they had no business being here because they were not fantastic at it........ I think not!!
Can't believe the negative posts on here, really disgusted actually.
Sex site or no sex site, the forums are for what anyone wants to talk about, either shut up or don't comment or maybe you are in the wrong site
BTW this not only doesn't apply to this post, i am very selective in the posts I comment on, but after reading some of the comments I'm really disgusted that some would kick another When they are feeling down
Mrs B
P. S. feel few to make any comments you want about this thread, negative of not, will just show how shallow you are. |

the forums are for anything, and if someone has the courage to ask for advice, why should others knock them for it.
sex site, forum....who cares where help is sought as long as someone seeks it, they will get it from those that care....there are no rules on this site that say people only have to take about sex and nothing else......

Actually I am a mental health professional. And my advice is to seek help and advice from the right professional. Not random strangers on a sex site. Honestly. And if they're your friends mail them in private. This is a personal issue not for a public forum or debate. I hope you do get the right advice but honestly a sex site forum!!! So I'll say no more on the subject as I don't want to add to your anxieties. Good luck x |

Most people want to get some advise before the seek professional help, that applies to everything.
Simply- a caring ear can be worth a lot
Doesn't cost anything & sometimes people just need to talk

Who gets to decide what people want to talk about in forums????
It may not be something that everyone would want to share but everyone is different
Doesn't matter if it's a sex site or not, and at times talking and asking advise from strangers is much easier first.
When you look at a good % of the posts in the forums they have absolutely nothing to do with sex

If you are a mental health pro you are a bad one. Nobody who unders_ands depression would talk to someone suffering like you do. By definaition they are desperate for help and often irrational and this needs to be understood. Help and understanding can come from many places. If one member of a sex site can help its worth it. My wife has suffered severe depression for a very very long time and sex and depression can mix. This lady is looking for support not negativity |

Sometimes in the wee small hours when you feel alone and lost, a word or two from a stranger on a forum can be a lifeline.
I think it's entirely up to the OP how she aproaches her medical problems, that kind word may be all she needs to carry on until professional help is available.
How many of us have come onto the forums feeling low and left laughing with spirits raised?
I've seen people on the forums who have had cancer or a serious illness, lost a loved one, gone through a break up, had/lost a baby etc. etc. and a few kind words have made all the difference. |

Well said,
Many a time I have been awake and lonely and checked the forums and had a good laugh,
A person my work in the mental health profession and still not understand what it is like to have depression,
Just like when a member of ur family ie father dies no one else know how u feel unless they have gone throu the same thing,
And hell yes its easier to talk to someone that can't see ur face and ur eyes to tell how you feel,
Why else would we have a fone line to the Samaritans, AND NO I AM NOT SAYING FONE THEM,
Its just times u just want to let it out but just not to a family member or someone that has know you ie GP, |

To get back to the original question from the Op I too suffer from depression and taking each day doing little and often helps me. i.e don't top and bottom the whole house, do a room a day. Part of a room.
Going out each day if I have to go to three shops but manage only one, no biggie it's one more than staying in the house. Don't set yourself big impossible tasks then give up, set yourself small managable tasks and do as many as you can.xx |

Exactly! Have seen people who have been either diagnosed with or fearing a diagnosis of cancer being given some great support in the forums, and nobody has once said not to talk about their illness or concerns.
But again the minute its mental health it becomes an illness that should be dealt with behind closed doors and not discussed in an open forum.
How sad that in 2012 we can accept all kinds of issues, but mental health remains stigmatised.
Its the kind of negative comments that people have expressed in this thread that keeps folks silent and ashamed to admit to having a mental illness, when its exactly that....an illness!! |

here here Roxy, how very true- none of us, knows whats round the corner for us, a broken limb, mends, but a mind is a whole lot more difficult to fix- and people who stigmatise folks with mental illness, should take the attitude, there but for the grace of god, then and only then- will they have any empathy for what some folks go through, some of can roll with the punches life throws at us, some can't so please spare a thought for those who cannot hold it together, like the previous posting said, mental illness is exactly that its an illness- anyone who has any prejudices, would be better not to voice them.
Roxy, well done with your posting hunxxx

Thank you. It was a telling comment to see that the mental health professional was the one who referred to it as airing ones dirty linen in public.
The OP only asked how others coped, not for a diagnosis (or not) on her mental health. |

in this day and age, there is a act of parliament called the mental health anti-discrimination act, making it un-lawful for a person to be sacked for having a mental illness, those doing so leave themselves open to being sued,in addition to any compensation, they may pay the employee, who has their contract terminated, due to mental instability, through depression- however im sure employers would get round this by claiming that person was un-fit in other ways. |

Having suffered from depression myself I know only to well everyday tasks can become . Not wanting to go out , feeling like you could cry all the time . What I found helped me was talking to family and then going to a local gp that is a councellor too who talked me through it and was told I was lucky as it was obvious the cause which is why I changed my job . Was advised to get out house at least once a day even if only to go shop and buy a paper . As getting out in fresh air helps along with talking about it and not bottling up the feelings .
No matter what kind of place you find to talk about it as long as there be a helpful ear at the end of it then it has to be a good thing
Does help to talk to complete strangers too if they have been through depression
Hope you find something that works for you as each case is different
Yours Rich |

Whenever i feel a bit down,i find exercise is the best remedie for me personally,im suprised no one has mentioned this, exercise releases feel good endorphins into the body,(natural body reaction to exercise)anything from walking,to cycling or swimming is great for your self esteem, obviously also chat to someone and open up,whether thats a stranger,or your closest friend/family member whoever your comfortable with, hope things work out well for you take care |

"Thanks but im scared to open up n tell anyone everything specialy my gp as will go on my file and can hinder my future job x"
I've been off work nearly six months I've had depression since I was a teen and usually cope with it pretty well my work actually triggered it off this time, employers can't discriminate against you if you have any mental health problems the worst thing you can do us bottle it up and hope it will go away, it only festers and gets worse
Physical health can be affected by depression I tend to find they go hand in hand, I'd sient do long trying not to take time off work for a viral infection I ended up in hospital and triggering my depression this has been the worst episode I've ever had and only now have we mastered medication that's working that isn't going to make me drowsy now it's just a case of getting back to work and talking about when I'm feeling down as much as I'd like to think I'm superwoman and can do everything by myself I can't and sometimes I've got to bite the bullet and say I can't cope |

This is true but also need the motivation to go which is the hardest part, sex releases the feel good endorphins too and depression and promiscuity go hand in hand hence why I try to avoid meeting anyone when I'm not well as I am fully aware of this in myself and don't want to gO down the route of fuckibg anything and everything to get a little fix as its just that a little fix like drugs it doesn't last long and the come downs take you even lower than you were before xx if your not single like me however jumping your partners bones a few times a day will work wonders for your mood providing you throw in a good orgasm perfect release for tension |

Sometimes it's just good to type how you feel... Get word's of encouragement from others... That in itself could have an effect on ones self.
I'm sure the op is aware they are better seeking professional advice but it's nice to get support from others that have gone through the same.
A problem shared and all that.
And I wouldn't class this as a sex site btw, it's a swinging site... By nature its a community... Where like minded people can help others, regardless of what it concerns.

Good luck to the op and hope you get the help you need and understand that there are others out there with the same problems,it is a swinging site and loads of users form a nice community on here and are happy to share their problems and ask for similar advice.
Look above those that give negatives as it is not what you need at this time in your life and take on the positives put both together and get on the right path,it is hard and may get harder but there is light at the end of the tunnel xx |
