lol its harmless mummy porn, if they try it and like it so be it, if not it will probably scare the bejesus out of them, at least it mentu=ions safe words etc. been in kink for years and i think the books are tame and not particularly representative of bdsm but not sure they are meant to be either...try the story of o instead? |

On the phone tO my mum yesterday and she told me she has bought the book! I said if my dad keels over with a heart attack I'm holding her and that fekkin book responsible. Dad is 80 and mum 73 by the way. |

I agree, not much story line and by the 3rd book it is all just the same muchness.
However I attended a "party" recently which was themed as 50shades.

Isn't fiction by definition just a little bit of fantasy be it 50 Shades or Alice in Wonderland? If it is fantasy, then is it not the case that one persons fantasy is another's reality?
I have read all three and agree with others they are relatively tame,not the best writing style in the world but definitely an easy read, a wee step out of reality which is what reading fiction is all about

naw - the birds enjoyed the 50 shades of raspberry ripple. Now they want mint choc whips but the poor guys struggle to find vanilla. Seriously though, a lot of guys go for porn in shape of pics or vids but just don't get the intellectual foreplay that comes from written word. |

I think the most telling part of the books is the fact that the guy is a proper alpha male billionaire. Book sales wouldn't have been half as brisk if it was a tax accountant from Wolverhampton who lived in a 2 bed semi in the burbs.
Guy porn tends to be a lot less wealth and power based. For example, we'd quite happily fantasize about a female tax accountant from Wolverhampton if we thought she was wearing stockings and sussies! |

A real sexy read is Nancy friday's 'Women on Top' or 'Men in Love'
In the 80's she asked women, then men, to send in their fantasies and then compiled them into these two books. Not for faint hearted as has everything in them and I mean EVERYTHING!

I think the reason they're so popular is exactly that they are so tame. kinky mills & boon. makes it easier to jump from vanilla into a little adventurous. Im a huge fan of story of o but most vanilla would find it scary. there's more in 50 shades to bring into real life than story of o. tho most people on here will have lived thru more than is in all 3 books |
