Saw this on Twitter and wondered if anyone else had faced such presumptuous health staff when attending an appointment (or any other staff)
Just had the 3 yearly smear test. The nurse said ‘Are you married?’ ‘No’. ‘You’re not sexually active then, I’ll have to use the smaller one to go in.’ ??
The first part of her statement was said as fact not question (is this the 1950’s?!) and the second part was just ...
I’ve always been relatively lucky in fact last time I happened to tell the nurse I was on fab and she was so positive about it  |

Never heard that either, as already said doubts outdated and also wrong. I’ve a friend who’s married with the proverbial two children and has always found her smear test agony. |

I think this may be one of those social media embellished stories Cadbury. You might struggle to find any woman that's had that question or response aimed at them.  |

I could fill a book with the stupid, disrespectful, unenlightened comments that have been made to me by some health care professionals over the years. I'm not remotely surprised!
Disclaimer: I've also got reason to be very grateful to the best of the best in the NHS for whom I have the highest respect.  |

I remember being in labour with my 2nd child and phoned hospital asking when to come in as contractions were every 5 minutes. Her response was well you haven’t had a contraction in the 5 minutes you’ve been on the phone to me, just come in when you can’t bare the pain any longer. My ex husband made me go into the hospitals an hour and a half later and I gave birth within 25 minutes
I too have greatest respect for NHS as have nearly always had amazing service but there are those few that can spoil that reputation as with every profession I suppose. |

Reminds me that f the time I was in labour with my 2nd son..2 midwives talking over me laying on the bed telling her how she shouldn't even be here as it was a swapped shift and now she can't be arsed  |

That would have been hilarious, you should have asked were hold ups better than stockings/suspenders

One of the most uncomfortable things I’ve ever had, a smear test. I just got asked if I was sexually active. Was an okay experience in the end.
My best friend never even got asked anything and she’s still a virgin (so you can imagine the pain and blood). The nurse also made her feel horrible for not telling her and that she (my best friend) was at fault.. Definitely one of the worst experiences to have. Safe to say it put her off letting anything in there again! |

One of the most uncomfortable things I’ve ever had, a smear test. I just got asked if I was sexually active. Was an okay experience in the end.
My best friend never even got asked anything and she’s still a virgin (so you can imagine the pain and blood). The nurse also made her feel horrible for not telling her and that she (my best friend) was at fault.. Definitely one of the worst experiences to have. Safe to say it put her off letting anything in there again!"
I'm curious as to why she'd have a smear if she wasn't sexually active, just genuinely curious. |

She got an invitation at 25 and they just assumed she was sexually active. But even without being sexually active you can still get/have cervical cancer. I think you are more at risk if you are though, but don’t quote me on that! |

Was my understanding too but guess there's more than hpv that can cause issues. Shame was a bit traumatic for her tho. |

Not all cervical cancers are from HPV if there is a strong family history of cervical cancer then there is a risk so all women should have a smear test whether sexually active or not |
