Basically considering visiting one of the two but unsure which has the best night life, heard Glasgow is fun but very rough and ready.. Edinburgh is a bit more chilled and cultured.

so which is the best in terms of gay venues and nightlife?

edinburgh has a huge amount of gay and gay friendly clubs and pubs and are some of the busiest places at the weekends, pm me and i can give you the names and addresses

If they are that gay friendly then why don't you post openly or are they closet gay friendly places?

But I'd say Glasgow every time
