In those days I suppose safety wasn’t a big concern as it is today I remember as a lad getting crushed in the crowds at away games at home games the stands were just built and could sit down at ibrox although you still had east and west enclosure

Lessons get learnt the hard way as with the Bradford fire. That too was horrific.

Yes the Bradford fire was caused by a cigarette they reckoned all those years people smoking in the old wooden stands then that happens must have been cigarette that set paper or something like that on fire then got out of hand tragic

Unfortunately sometimes they don't learn

My son & I were caught in a crush good few years back at a Scotland game at Celtic Park. Due to roadworks many fans arrived late and the staff were usless as they weren't Celtic's usual staff and had no idea how to work the crowds safely in to the staduim.

My boy was about 8 at the time and he had grown adults shoving him down. It was a group of Ireland supporters that faught their way in to the crowd to help me pull him to safety.

I complained to the SFA and got free tickets to another game but shortly after another crush happened during a Scotland match played at Celtic Park

Its a miracle no one was killed on both occasions

Mr

Tragic...

I have a friend who's father carried a body from the stairway to the pitch. He didn't die at the crush. He died of a heart attack.

Sad.

Reading that article was the first I heard of it, even though I've been in Scotland since 2001. Watched the documentary that evening as well.

So incredibly sad.

I was still really pissed with them but appreciated the tickets, Also it was for Hampden which is a lot more open than Celtic Park

We won 5-1 as well so that made him happy

It also started pissing down with that heavy ice cold rain and I forgot my jacket and got drenched

been in football crushes years ago its a scary feeling getting lifted of your feet and going in a direction you dont want to go . fans should be able to enjoy the game and go home afterwards . GBNF. I am only a football fan and not affiliated to any of the old firm .

As a celtic fan i have a healthy hatred for old rangers and new sevco. And as much as i hope we batter them tomorrow some things are bigger than a game of football. Nobody should go to a game and not come home. RIP to all those who lost their lives that day. Closest i came to a crush was blackburn away in 2002/3 uefa cup. Lots of fans all trying to get in last minute created a bit of a rammy.

Abs this is why the rest of Scottish football fans have no time for the new old old firm.

Both the teams poison Scottish football, and starting what’s clearly lip service to a horrible tragedy, kinda makes it all feel more sour. People at a football match died. And a posts starts with hate. Makes me very sad that point scoring using the sevco comment even appeared on this thread.

My thoughts are with all who’s family suffered

During this, and other similar tragedies that could have been avoided.

You clearly know me better than i do to know im only paying lipservice to what happened in 71 without knowing anything at all about me?

If you think my use of the word hatred is in any way related to religion or sectarianism then you are way off the mark. They are our biggest rivals thats where my dislike comes from.

Id also suggest you calling Celtic and rangers as "new old old firm" is pretty much the same as me calling them old rangers and sevco just using different words.

To everyone else, if ive cause offence im sorry it was not my intention.

I watched it with a tear in my eye thinking of all those teenagers who never came home or fulfilled their potential in a life tragically cut short .. doesn’t matter what side of the divide you are on it was a tragic loss of life that should have been avoided

And for those who think sectarian thoughts just remember that mr stein was out helping the authorities deal with the bodies

My dad and a few of my uncles were at the match on that day luckily they had decided to leave early and head to a pub. But they didn’t know about the accident. When it came over the radio and tv about it my mum and aunts were worried sick as they didn’t know where my dad and uncles were. When my dad heard he went straight to a phone to let them know they were ok but my dad got an earful. I hate to thinking of what was going through my mums mind that day.
