Working with a bunch of people that can only be described as fuckin useless.
Need to micro manage every little detail, no common sense, no initiative to see what is required and act upon it.
So do you think they really are as thick as mince or simply taking the piss.
Polish, Romanian, Indian, English and few other nationalities. All speak English well enough to understand what is required. |

Based on the current predicament we are all in, it has become pretty evident that many people are lacking in not only common sense but also any sort of social consciousness or sense of personal responsibility.

I don't bark any orders at any one, I ask for jobs to be done . I niether rant nor rave but when ask for example for a fence line to be moved 10 feet over, give them a start and finish line , make sure they are happy where its going , how far its going and leave them to it , there's little room for error, when you come back and its move 20 feet, the wrong length and in the wrong direction it kinda just leaves, their taking the piss or thick as mince. |

There's 1 welsh guy but he's OK , its not that there fucking up to much , more as the thread says , zero common sense and initiative. I'm afraid I can't train that into them. So there either useless or at it. |

The fault lies fully with You,
you are the boss, so you are the one who hired, you failed to interview and assess your employee's correctly and failed to find the correct persons for the job.
now, if it was only one employee then that is excusable, but from what you are saying, it is every single one of them

Being in charge of them does not mean I hired them , certainly been told to bin a few of them to set an example to the others but luckily for them I wouldnt do something like that especially this time of year. More apt to come on here and vent my frustration and get opinions.

Again more assumptions, its not my job to coach, train or boost a self employed persons feelings . I'm there to ensure they do their job . They simply need to do what they are trained for. Its like employing a painter and decorator to paint your house and they come and ask you to open the tin of paint for them. Thats the level we are talking here. Get a grip. |

Your right, which brings be back to my original post before I was blamed for everything, their either thick as mince or taking the piss.
I'm probably partly to blame for treating them as professionals and expecting them to do their job with minimal supervision on simple tasks.

Trust me sparkle these guys are no where near working for minimum wage which is more the reason I expect better. I'm probably more here venting frustration as I know the answer is to tell a few of them to go home and don't bother coming back. But during these times and Christmas looming I genuinely don't want to do that. Have had the conversations with them but I only got this team 5 weeks ago and fear they may be set in there ways which can't end well for them . |

Being assertive and showing others who is Boss does not increase productivity nor quality.
Don't ask people too work faster as you'll get zero effort in return.
Establish people's strengths and weaknesses and coach them to achieve their goals. Coach people not too work harder but work smarter.
On the basis of the job they are trained to do, I'm a spark to trade. If you asked me re-wire a full factory that's easy for me, ask me to do the fire alarms I would need think of it more.
It's evident that you haven't been clear as someone has already said.
Calling people useless is a tad harsh.

Not only that, but I've always tried to look internally, especially as a manager or coach, to understand if I need to change how I deal with and interact with certain people in order to get the best out of them |

My personal experience of all of the above nationalities and more who spoke very little English was actually that they far exceeded their expectations and worked a lot harder than us natives because they had a lot more to lose more often than not technical documents and written English/diagrams were a great deal easier for most folk to grasp than word of mouth, major differences between a leader and a manager ! I think in my professional career I displayed a pretty good balance of the two and my results spoke for themselves perhaps someone needs to fo on a management and leadership course |

However, my experience has shown that when there is collective/group of non performers, albeit they have been employed for their obvious skills, then there will one or two bad apples amongst them. The 'bullet makers the shit stirrers' so to speak. Address your efforts to change them or get them on board. If not successful, them out and get rid of them. Simple as that.

Doubt very much you are even employed, you have absolutely zero management skills, and even if you did, to come on here and whinge about it is totally unprofessional.
I doubt you are fit enough to be in charge, forum rules say you should not badmouth other members or name & shame,

I would pull up my socks , and start doing what I'm paid to do. If I do that then I would have nothing to worry about.
Secondly, I dont need to give them an incentive to do their jobs the fact their on very respectable salaries is there incentive . Simple.!

Why do most of the comments think you're the problem and not the employees that were hired for the job ?

Mate just water off a ducks back to me, they are all entitled to their opinions, just as I'm entitled to come on and bitch about a group of people they don't know , don't work with, never likely to associate this thread with either. Lol
It was hilarious though , one of the people who blamed me , then went on to say I should take the Fab advice into work. Says it all Lol. |

Well I'm full of common sense!! Which is probably why I don't take Fab advice into work... Not sure what my manager would think if I 'got my fanny out' at work as was suggested to me twice as a way to improve my profile |

Dropping a 'not so subtle hint' that there may be a few people who will no longer be required, seems to have done the trick. As said earlier in the thread , people see being easy going as a weakness, its definitely not .
Cheers for all the comments, even the usual contingent that used it as an opportunity to get the expected digs in.

Don't get too excited, it doesn't last. Old habits come back, you let a couple slip because they've been trying. Before you know it, too many mistakes are being made and you'll be pulling them up again. Good luck |

And I work with some managers who need to micro manage every little detail because they are narcissists who believe they and only they can do the job
They speak English well too

There is an old saying "pay peanuts and hire monkeys".
I have encountered so many employers over the years delighted to be able to get cheap labour. Often letting well educated, skilled and experienced locals exit only to be replaced by cheaper alternatives.
Is this a possible explanation?
