Time for Lockdown end ?

Apologies for length of this post.
Today Scot Government announced proposed new stages of Lockdown – Even Stage 0 appears to have restrictions? (surely this should be stage 1?).
Is it time to loosen restrictions for the vast majority and only ask the high-risk category to shield – Then individuals who would be deemed high risk, can make their own decision of whether they wish to shield or carry on as normal?
On a personal note I think we should ease restrictions: My Dad (recovering Cancer patient) is unable to get an appointment for a scan – he pretty sanguine about it and thinks “they should be treating the young ones before me”
I’ve also been suffering from an abscess below a capped tooth for the last 4 weeks – I look like Quasimodo (swollen face), and its bloody sore. I’ve had two courses of antibiotics and its settled from excruciating pain to constantly painful.
The Dentist (a locum) said that she not allowed to drill or perform root treatment. She stated she could try to extract (pliers) but if the tooth snapped, she would be unable to remove it and I would then be looking at a “very bad outcome” I declined and opted for antibiotics.
She said she did want to help but wasn’t allowed to drill or do anything complex. She tried to console me saying that there are many people out there who have been suffering since the start of lockdown and I was lucky that this has just flared up.
She also hinted that the two dentists in the practice had been forced to leave due to lockdown, so even when we return to normal appointments will be difficult.
Is it time to get back to normal, try and keep people in employment, and allow people treatment? What do you think? |

"I had the same dental issue but mine did say I could go private and get any treatment necessary."
A man on news last week had been in agony for months. He could not afford to pay the thousands he needed to go private so is now travelling abroad for the treatment done. |

whilst i feel for companies going out of buisness or struggling, i still think a complete lockdown would be more helpful, my little lad has been waiting on a much needed operation which i think is going to be a while off yet.. all the while his condition getting worse..  |

The simple fact is........lockdowns don't work!! We've already had a lockdown, and that didn't work.
The lockdown comes in, and the numbers go down; the lockdown's released, and the numbers go up.
With Sturgeon's 5 levels, we're going to be up and down like yo yos, between the different levels.
Meanwhile, over in Ireland, they're going into a total lockdown for 6 weeks, be released from it for Christmas, then go back into it in January. You really couldn't make it up!! |

That’s the thing. The numbers showed the lockdowns worked. However to balance health and economy is never going to be easy. The only thing that will get us out of this is a vaccine and until then people need to be following the rules.
Yes I totally get that they can be confusing but just go into Asda or Tesco... stop and watch for a few minutes. People have stopped sanitising. Tonnes more people without masks (they can’t all be exempt). Nobody gives you 2m distance. It’s like it’s all gone back to normal.
It’s certainly not normal by any means.
I’ve seen what this virus can do to people - I know someone who now faces at least a year of rehab. Will possibly never work again... can’t drive due to the wasting of bones and muscle issues whilst they were in intensive care on a ventilator. Their life has changed beyond belief. Someone who was perfectly fit is now a shadow of their former selves.
I’ve blocked Covid naysayers on social media because it is these people who don’t follow even the basic FACTS or hands face space rules that prolong this entire situation.
I feel for businesses - I really do! But we’ve never really had anything like this in the world that we live in.
this virus thrives on is being human. We crave contact and it is that very contact that passes this damn thing on.

Did the complete lockdowns in the likes of Italy and Spain work at the start of the year?
No it didn’t. It’s only natural the infection rates will increase as life tries to get back to normal. The virus isn’t ever going to go away, vaccine or no vaccine so we’ve got to deal with it. Boris Johnson was right in saying any vaccine will be an assistance not a cure. |

You know... I really do get all the worry and gravity of the whole covid situation but there’s a dedicated covid forum forum section for it and I’m getting to the stage I wish folk would keep threads about it to there (respect it’s an open forum too before I get a row  ).  |

"I went with the plyers when i was in the same pain as you , totally worth it "
I had a loose back tooth..it got to the point and my face was that swollem i ended up just pulling it out with my fingers caveman style. The relief after i did it was amazing though.
Look on the bright side saved 30 quid on an extraction bill.

Let’s get everyone that can work, back to it.
High risk individuals should be shielding and let the rest of us get the economy to a half decent point.
I could understand bringing lockdowns in if the nhs in a certain area was being overwhelmed, but the new hospitals built for this reason are empty.
Masks are nigh on pointless, a piece of generic cotton does not stop the virus. Before anyone comes back with the whole cough spray argument. You shouldn’t be out with a cough !
I feel bad for people who have long term complications due to the virus, but people are waiting for medical treatment for much more illnesses.
To the OP about being panned off with antibiotics twice, this is a major gripe of mine as the dentist should be aware of not fobbing you off with antibiotics once they’ve done their job first time round. |

The Scottish Government has instructed all dentistry to hault at this moment, but your same dentist will do the same job on the same chair with the same tools private
I had a filling carried out 6 weeks ago and what would have cost £20.56 on NHS cost £120 private, but it needed done so such as life
What I do disagree with is the Scottish Government halting a huge amount of procedures, they are now slowly re-introducing certain appointments and procedures but the majority are still on hold, tough luck they say when your year wait for a knee or hip operation has now increased to 3 years plus.
NHS has actually stopped many procedures and treatments all together due to cost and amount of people in need.
You will no longer get any Varicose Vain operations on NHS unless you have vast open sores in urgent need, preventative treatment is a no no, and it is not just varicose veins, that is just an example
as I say, go in today with a HIP or KNEE in need of replacement and you will be in a queue of 3+ years
It is and it was the Scottish Government that instructed all these operations to temporarily be halted
Yet today I am driving to Murrayfield Hospital in Edinburgh for blood tests and Covid-19 test then I will be self isolating until the 29th when I go to the operating theatre at Shawfair park for private surgery missing out on a 3 year wait
yes our NHS is good, I work for them and staff try their hardest but they are also bankrupt and misrun by poor management and by managers who think they have open cheque books
Unless you actually work for the NHS and see what is happening, you will be led to believe how great it is, when really it is on its knees.
I am lucky I have medical insurance to cover various treatments, and the ones I cannot cover through insurance I will pay for out of my own pocket rather than wait the 3+ years for treatments needed now.
I am sure many will disagree, but this is what I am seeing and experiencing today. |

I must be very lucky. Any follow up appointments for ongoing condition have been met. And a recent new referral made by gp for tests - appointments both next week so just a 2 week wait. Same with other people in my family who have ongoing conditions. Appointments and referrals all being done without much of a wait.
I do agree with the dentist thing tho. Dont get why if they cant do it on nhs safely they can do it if you pay. Does payment make it safer |

once patient is treated, all protective equipment has to be dis-guarded, whole room has to be sterilised and left un-used for 1 hour, |

covid doesnt need to be around for people to worry about their childrens future.. i get it about the economy, but if it carries on and people do their own thing then the population will be a lot less regardless, just my opinion though |

Everyone seems to be waiting for a vaccine but that is not going to be some sort of miracle cure.
I was reading today about how the flu vaccine is only 40 to 60% effective and that they are expecting the covid vaccine to have a similar success rate. This expect also predicted that Covid is here forever a bit like the flu so am not sure how the governments are going to cope year on year.
Every leader of every country is just fire fighting at present as no one has any experience of dealing with a pandemic. |

Not strictly true, it only applies to first world countries really.
There are a number of countries who went through this with SARS & MERS, Thailand, Vietnam as examples of nations who immediately put their contingency plan into action and have dealt with covid better than most others. |
