I think respect in society has been in decline way before the current crisis. Rampant consumerism and an ubiquitous sense of entitlement has turned us into instant-gratification monkeys with zero tolerance.
Best thing is to try to navigate the world with kindness and tolerance regardless. Others might not give a shit, or even notice, but it leads to a far less stressful life. |

Exactly this. For example.
Walking yesterday, young gent drops litter with giving an absolute shit about the environment or peopke around him.
There was a bin 10 steps behind him. There wass a bin 10 steps in front of him!!
Small thing but shows society for what it!!

Respect begins with self awareness. We never know what others are going through.
Be kind, and have no expectations of others to behave a certain way, then you won't be let down |

I do agree in part.
But common sense and respecting the area around you so others can use it is a basic function that all should prescribe to from a young age.
There is also the "to get respect you earn respect" ethos.
Try sitting at a college canteen!
Young individuals who do not care about those around them. Rubbish left lying, sauces poured out on tables for no reason.
That is just plain disrespectful to others who use the area.
No matter how much self awareness they get. Which could take years before they develop any resemblances of the basics.
Sometimes, and it beggars belief, you to have to teach people respect!!!!
Respect has been lost in the natural order of society.

I wasn't either, but I was mindful of other people and my surroundings.
So yes at 14/15 my pals and me used to go drinking in a local park (away from the play area) but all our empties were put in bins. Not thrown around and smashed to pieces causing potential harm to a kid who fell or even animals.
Its just common decency really x |

I always put litter outside in z bin
Plus my facemask
You walk the streets and you're guaranteed to see one on ground
For folk to just throw on ground
I wouldn't like to see their houses
Or their personal hygiene

Id say respect starts at home.
Educate your kids with manners and they will do the same with their kids.
Was on a train with 1 of my sons a few yrs ago he must have been about 8 got up to give a lady his seat and a wee old lady sat across from me said what a lovely thing to do for a young man..God my heart nearly busted with pride for him. |

I agree, good parenting plays a big part in it.
But I've seen some kids show good manners and the parents are, quite frankly just shocking. |
