Will be interesting to see how Sturgeon reacts to this. She's always banging on about independence like her life depended on it and wants to hold a referendum as soon as possible. That makes sense in the middle of a pandemic but don't get me started on that subject.
If the Shetlands ask for a referendum will she grant one with no questions asked? |

If Shetland went independent they would only have a sea boundary of 12 miles and within that range there's not much oil so it would be no big loss to Scotland |

Vote in pro Shetland independence candidates, then get a majority of Shetland residents to vote for independence in a referendum and they can have it.
That’s how democracy is supposed to work folks. |

It’s because she is doing such a good job compared to Boris
London wants to shut her up as the independence is gaining momentum "
Got to agree with this. This was my first thought when I saw the BBC were stopping all live coverage of the briefings. |

What nationalists fail to realise is that there’s no appetite for another referendum never mind independence as at the last general election more people in Scotland voted for unionist parties than nationalist parties.
That’s not me being a “Yoon” “Traitor” “nawbag” “moonhowler” “Tory bastard” or any other childish moronic insult that nationalists resort to when faced with facts that don’t suite their narrative, it’s a fact.

I suggest you search Boris Johnston Racist comments
Then tell me he’s not racist "
I have no appetite to search for anything like that. I’m sure everyone has said things in the past or done things that may not be politically correct it doesn’t mean they are intentional racists.
Anyway prime ministers and ruling political parties change, independence would be permanent so my opinion on whether we should be part of the union or not wouldn’t be based on the current ruling party. I think that’s pretty short sighted |

Whether we are ruled from Brussels, London or Edinburgh there will always be rich people, people from privileged backgrounds and millionaire privately educated people.
There are votes that don’t go the way I voted and there will be in the future. I’m not arrogant enough to believe that my view is correct. It’s correct for me and my way of life but not everyone’s. I’m not a bigot and I’m open to other people’s opinions and beliefs. Pushing your views on people and calling them sheep is not the actions of a tolerant scot claiming they want a fairer society. |

I think that the BBC looked at viewing figures and decided that we didn't need The Nicola Sturgeon Show on 5 days a week as she was frequently interviewed again at night on the news.
It certainly gave the grievance monkeys in the independence movement another conspiracy theory to work on that big, bad Westminster had curtailed the Supreme Leader's daily broadcast. |

I'm an SNP voter,
The only reason I vote for them is purely for Independence.
If that was to be achieved then I would more than likely vote for a different party in an Independent country.
I don't hate the English, you get good and bad everywhere in the world wether it is in your street, a different street, in another neighborhood, town, city and then countries.
The ironic thing is, it's actually our fault as much as theirs that we are united.
We are a divided country full stop and that's the real problem.
However, the Green party also gives me the option to vote for an other party that backs Independence. (Still seriously considering this)
Anti anybody is boring and dated, English lives matter too |

As soon as independence is voted in, we’ll
Be back under the ruling of the EU so we’re not better off making our own ‘decisions’.
I voted yes last time and accepted that the majority wanted to stay united. I’ll be voting no this time and hopefully it’ll be the end of it for a generation at least.
What if everyone voted yes, we left and the next party voted in wanted to unite again ? Lost the first vote and pushed again for another would seem a bit pointless.
My local area is mainly farming and always votes in favor of Tory. I’m certain last time the area was majority No as well. |

What utter garbage. And comparing people to Nazis shows is a scummy thing to do.
Where did you get your degree in economics? Seriously, Scotland can’t work without England’s‘subsidy’. You realise Scottish assets and tax make up the ‘pot? How about Scotland has full control of her assets and finances rather than Eton silver spoon millionaires?

For the hard of thinking.
As I’ve stated in my op the only poll which matters is the official election. Opinions mean nothing but even more so recently due to how wrong they have been.
Do a quick bit of research and look at the number of votes cast for unionist and nationalist parties in the last general election. A majority of around a quarter of a million more votes for unionist parties. So, no, there isn’t any appetite for a another referendum. |

They are caught between the devil and the deep blue sea with that question. If they refuse then Sturgeon will be seen as a hypocrite as she would be doing the same as Boris but if she agrees and they vote for independence then she will have broken up Scotland.

Also in today’s news, former SNP high heidyin for Westminster claims the deaths of older people is what is needed for independence.

To live in a nation/state is normal. The same as most every other country. What we, the Yessers, want is to be normal. No more, no less. Equal.

So, unhappy at being governed from 400 miles away (westminster) but happy to give powers 600 miles away (brussels)? Odd flex.
The independence debate is not about how much you hate the Tories - or at least it shouldn't be. The argument for independence should be made on how it will better the lives of our citizens. I've yet to hear a strong argument for this. Economically, it doesnt exist.
Scotland has its representatives in WM (its fair share by the way) but the SNP have spent so many years just arguing non existent grievances and moaning about Tories rather than working together to better Scotland that it is no wonder they are not taken seriously.
Sturgeon is a wonderful politician. By that I mean she misdirects perfectly, she speaks well and she knows how to play a certain sector of the electorate like fiddles. But delve deeper and there are swathes of corruption and incompetence rife in the Scottish Government. Not to mention the current Salmond inquiry, which is only throwing up even more examples of foul play.
I'm always happy to debate people who want to discuss independence, but it doesn't take very long for it to descend to tories, westmonster, our destiny and other shitty soundbites that mean nothing and completely divert away from the gaping holes in their arguments.
But, politics should be an area where healthy debate is welcomed and I am a believer in respecting other views - I fear I may be in the minority in that though. |

"So, unhappy at being governed from 400 miles away (westminster) but happy to give powers 600 miles away (brussels)?
Not to mention the current Salmond inquiry, which is only throwing up even more examples of foul play.

i agree with 90% of this ... the only place it falls down is saying its not about being against the tories then in the next breath talking about snp corruption... if its not party politics, you cant back it up with party politics ... we gotta be consistent in our approach to be taken seriously
show me a government in the world without corruption ... it doesn’t exist ... it doesn’t justify it but it also doesn’t mean its a valid reason against independence ..... for me its all about the economics, you cant run a country on patriotism
my dream would be we scrap this independence nonsense and the nations push for voter reform- more devolution, and proportional representation ... we don't need a divorce , a wee bit of counselling and being heard a bit more at home would do the trick i think |

I totally agree with that.
My argument against independence is not to do with my dislike for the SNP - although I certainly don't pretend it doesn't exist. The independence argument is essentially head vs heart. And, when it comes to running a country, there should only be one winner.
I agree with what you say though. The quest for independence needs to be scrapped and a better job made of how Scotland could be. The ref in 2014 has us now entrenched and divided. If the Scottish Government (whichever party that may be) focused on improving what we already have, the case for independence might well take care of itself. |

"Let me guess - your from the Rule Britannia side of Glasgow I bet !!! "
When I see a quote like the above it epitomises everything about the nasty and hostile side of some nasty Nationalist.
If your not one of us, you're a yoon or whatever.
So what if that person is from the Rule Britannia Side?
Why is that really a concern to you? |

I am not bitter I just find it amazing that the independence movement still hasn't dealt with the major obstacles. They have had since 2012 and come up with?.....Nothing, all you get is the same old grievance, chip on the shoulder stuff, that is not how to win the debate. Show how the economy would work, what the currency would be and who would be the lender of last resort |

This is it in a nutshell. You can’t debate with a nationalist as anytime you present facts and figures to them it’s the same old tired, long worn out rhetoric reply “aye but look at what it’s like in England” or words to that effect.
Instead of deflecting the debate towards other governments they point blank disregard the incompetence of their and refuse to tackle it’s failings head on as any argument they have holds little water. |

As a voter of independence back in 2014, I have to agree with the above comment's.

"Will be interesting to see how Sturgeon reacts to this. She's always banging on about independence like her life depended on it and wants to hold a referendum as soon as possible. That makes sense in the middle of a pandemic but don't get me started on that subject.
If the Shetlands ask for a referendum will she grant one with no questions asked? "
NO;
she shouts independence but she will not put forward a referendum as she has no ability to run Scotland as an independent country.
That is why she is so desperate to get back into the EU as back up when it all goes wrong for her
I was a 30 year snp member until she took control, her new laws, policy's and dreams of a carbon free country will destroy Scotland
you think we have it bad right now, wait till she gets her mits on it |
