Seen quite a few gamers posts on here, so thought I'd try you forumites. Did do the google thing, but i need it in plain English and not tech expert language.

Have any you heard of ddos, or had it done to you?

What can i do to stop it and prevent it from happening again?

It's an ip address from my son's xbox that's being targeted.

All advice welcome!! Thanks x

First thing to try is unplug your router and leave it off overnight. Hopefully when you turn it back on you’ll be allocated a different IP address when it’s turned back on.

Its a weird way to attack a private individual! These attacks are usually reserved for big organisations by people hoping to make a few quid. My guess is that either your boy has managed to wind up the wrong guy, or the person doing the attack has the wrong guy! Leaving it off a whike may well work, but failing that you could look at getting a vpn (virtualprivatenetwork), which come pretty cheap these days.

Getting a new internet provider tomorrow. That might also mean a new IP address?

This one is from a sour loser. And i have a suspicion (although my boy denies this) he might have been a bit too cheery with the win and kind of rubbed it in Another lesson learnt x

Yeah, anything that goes through tour Internet basically. May be worth contacting them to see what support they can provide you.

It’s easy to do these days, there’s software anyone can download and set up an attack in minutes, and yes, was going to say it’ll be someone he’s been playing against!

"I already have a vpn!! Do they work on xbox as well then? "

You’d need a router that lets you input the VPN login details into it so then every device connected, XBox, phones etc. would be protected. Some routers also have a setting for DDOS protection.

Brand new router ready to go, so you'd it would have these functions. Something else to look into tomorrow x

Thanks for all the advice!! Pretty confident we'll get this sorted first thing tomorrow. Router switched off for a break and hopefully a new IP and me switching off as well.

Thanks again x
