Face masks....will ye....won't ye?

Out shopping this afternoon I'd guesstimate around 75% of folk, give or take, were not bothering their arse with a face covering.

A friend pointed out to me that a 60 quid fine is reportedly being enforced from Friday when it is mandatory to wear one.

I hate the bloody things but see them as a necessary evil. Anyone intending to flout the rules...and if so, why?

I'll wear one if absolutely needed, I tend to wear one when I'm having a off day and coughing when run down but it slows down my breathing so I'd rather avoid the general public than have to wear one

I very rarely go anywhere that masks will be mandatory, but when I do I already wear one because it is the right & responsible thing to do. Popped into the local co-op at the weekend and I was the only person who was wearing a mask & several people looked at me like I was crazy

I'm wearing one when travelling to and from work, and at work. But not the rest of the time.

Its a mile walk from mine to the bus station, and I meet very few people. But I probably should be keeping it on between the bus and work.

I guess I'll have to from Fri x

Ive been wearing a mask when I go out since April.

After having Covid back then I am anxious about relapsing or potentialy spreading it to others.

Not worth risking.

Assuming covid follows the same pattern as previous corona virus outbreaks there will be 2 more waves and localised spikes inbetween.

If there is a motorcycle dealer near you nip in and ask if they have any antifog for the inside of visors. Works great. Spray it on just before you go to bed to let it dry naturally.

After wearing these on a hot busy ward I can assure you wearing on in an air-conditioned shop is a delight haha. I've tried to wear a face covering out shopping from the start but I still sometimes forget if I leave it in the car and walk to shop instead. Are the shops going to have some disposable at the door for you to buy so you can still shop? And are they going to charge a fortune for the pleasure? I'm lucky I'm not keen on shopping anyway

Its not a mask we have been asked to wear its a face covering, so basically anything that covers nose and mouth, effectively you could pull your t shirt up.

Initially there was no evidence it helped however they now think it 66% less likely you will pass on the bug if you wear a face covering.

Without being overtly political basically they don't and didn't want us to wear face marks of official standard as they didn't have enough for the professionals therefore any in the countries was required for the professional field.

Even though at least 5 years ago they knew a pandemic was the biggest risk to society, but the stock piled he haw

I have wore a face covering since March, only indoors though ie shops, petrol station etc. What I find amusing is people only covering their mouths and not their nose aswell, and people wearing face coverings outside in open areas where its unnecessary.

Being a biker I’ve got several neck tube thingys that can be used to cover the face - not quite a surgical mask but better than nowt so will reluctantly be playing the game. I doubt many fines will be issued - the majority should succumb to social pressure.

The police won’t be out searching for folk not wearing face coverings . If a person makes a scene in a shop because they won’t wear one when asked to , the staff may call security staff or police to have them removed from the premises . Anyone who has a medical reason to not wear one would be reasonable with staff showing possible proof of that .

( in an ideal world )

Somewhere over there

Been wearing masks since March to local shops/pharmacies.

I actually feel uncomfortable if shop too busy, but will use self checkout rather than queue as well. Prefer the masks with elastic round your head rather than the blue one with ear loops as it keeps catching my hearing aid.

Noticed local post office sell them too but as Ian’s company supply PPE, he got me some reusable ones so I’m sorted

If you’ve a coating on your glasses the gel breaks it down, I’ve anti glare on mine and my optician put a post up on his social media saying to not do that.

As for masks I wear one at work all day, I’ve got sore ears and I’ve regressed into a teenager with acne but it’s necessary, I bought some funky cloth ones online, tomorrow I’m going to see my mum for first time in 22 weeks and for the hours journey on the train I’ll be wearing my one with dementors on lol

I was on a bus and shopping last Saturday, so as per the mandatory rules wore a face covering. It was a little stuffy, but a rule's a rule, and it's best to be on the right side of the law.

Whilst walking on the street I took the face covering down, and maintained the social distancing the best I could, but when entering each shop I put the covering back on, just so I'm ready (and in the habit) for the change today.

But so many other people really just not caring about it in any way. I saw an old man challenge a young woman on the bus about it and she totally flipped out about it.

My local shop have been told by their head office that they've not to challenge anyone that comes into the shop after today and isn't wearing a mask. But if it's mandatory they should just take the stance of "No face covering = No entry"

Big Thumbs-Up to the Lothian Buses driver that refused to move the bus when someone took their mask off. The passenger took their mask off as soon as they sat down. The driver kept looking in the mirror, then after about 3 minutes got out the cab and gave the passenger a polite reminder about face coverings being mandatory. The passenger huffed and puffed, said it was too stuffy. A few minutes later the bus still hadn't moved, so the passenger stomped off. Then put their mask back on???

"The driver clearly wasn’t following guidance. They like shop workers have been told not to engage passengers without masks.

Simple reasons, few minutes with each passengers = buses running late, hidden disabilities leaving themselves open to legalities, and physical assault."

"now the stupid government want folks to cover their faces behind a mask - odd logic - after 14 weeks without giving a shit ."

NS advocated wearing face coverings in crowded places in April.

The fact it’s now mandatory shows that advice wasn’t taken.

A mask is a means of reducing the propensity of someone who has got Covid19 to spread it to others.

It's not about protecting yourself by wearing one, but about reducing the risk to others

I work in retail, and have advised all my team that no one is to come in without a face covering. We are wearing them inside, and its for our protection as well as yours. Many stores have a supply to give out to customers who don’t have one. We are also within our rights to refuse entry to people who don’t/won’t comply.

Finding it increasingly difficult to find out the rules, and which country they apply to

TV news is all about England....

Is it mandatory to wear masks in certain shops depending on nation?

Certainly makes more sense as airborne virus is more persistent indoors than out, and more difficult to keep a social distance

"I’ll be wearing one when going to shops, I’ll be keeping away from people for a while yet, fairly sure you won’t get into shops without one

Shops have the right to refuse access i believe if i remember correctly from my retail days back when i was skinnier "

Well we were asked, then it was suggested now it’s mandatory. I’m good with it I’ve had to wear them at work throughout the lockdown so needs must

Its law in Scotland is it not as heard police can hand out fines.

If you don't..your being childish.

Unless your doc said you can't but if that's the case don't go into any shops.

Simple.

What? Wear a face mask and deny the public access to my beautiful mug?

Course I do. Have a funky custom one from a fab pal who makes them. Tartan one side. Star Wars the other. Three layers including removable filter. Dogs bollocks.

Shops can in essence refuse to serve you but I have been told by several different shops that they won't be making staff inforce the rule to customers. Which I can understand as the staff have been getting enough abuse as it is over the two metre rule

The abuse is likely why my local shop have been told by their head-office not to stop non-maskers entering. My local one closed the shop for an hour a few times due to people getting abusive and violent at the start of lockdown and all the shortages.

Yeah it's just not fair and I think completely selfish of the customers. Yes they may only be popping in for a minute but the staff are stuck in the shop all day with hundreds of other people! I just don't understand why a few minutes of being slightly uncomfortable is such a hassle to them

The masks rule won't last long. People power will get it scrapped. Service station this morning getting fuel the guy was counting wearers. 60 customers only 5 including myself had one on . 2 cops also in without coverings lmfao.

Chinese tonight , staff no masks lmfao, daft arse here walks in with one on and he's the one that's getting the strange looks lol. Asked staff what happened to masks they said that will be right , been open right through and no masks won't be strating now. Personally I think it's bollocks too but will comply as thems the rules.

I'm certainly not in to virtue signalling, but would wear a mask where required.

Waking the streets or in to the town its just not necessary.

It's not going to protect me any more than proper hygiene measures, hand washing and maintaining distance etc.

If I were to have a cough or runny nose, then it might prevent me transmitting any virus I might have to someone else

despite the rules/regulations, it's as good as saying we're free to do as we're please.

Even those with "good reason" who allegedly can't breathe will more likely be the ones with respiratory problems and be coughing more.

Nonetheless, innocent forgetfulness happens. I got on the bus yesterday in a rush and forgot to don my mask (driver was not wearing)...and even Bowie on the radio admitted he forgot!

The biggest issue is the expert and scientific evidence tells you that a face covering doesn’t stop the virus being inhaled or exhaled as the fibres don’t filter small enough Particles so coughing will still escape the mask/face covering. The only one to protect thos without the virus are the N95/P3 masks which stop you inhaling it but not exhaling it, best option is a face shield as the virus can enter through eyes, nose or mouth.
