Has anyone used lockdown to take up or get back in to running or cycling to improve their general fitness/health?

I received a positive email from my gym today advising reopening from July 4th albeit reduced hours. Something to look forward to though.

I’m used to going to the gym 5 times a week so really struggling but have managed to exercise most days. Hoping to come out of lockdown fairly unscathed

Yeah it's been one positive out of it all, stopped running a few years ago but started up again and back to regular 10k's. It's been good

I thought I would get more walking done but I'm still working from home so can't be too far from a wifi connections. Good thing is there are loads more online/youtube classes and I'm keeping up my yoga

I've used it to it's full advantage. Back up to cycling 200miles a week.

If I can't get a fab ride I'll go for a ride on my bike. lol

We were active, outside-y types before and now we're video game-playing master bakers; we've piled on the pounds. Not worried about it though, we'll get back in the game once the pool/ climbing gym and gym gym is open again.

I'm not cycling any more, because I'm not commuting

But I am running a bit more than before, though I'm stuck to the roads rather than getting up in to the hills and hitting the trails

We have worked right through lockdown. I put weight on at the beginning though but am now healthy eating and exercising every day. I want to be fitter and slimmer for when we can have Fab meets

We’ve turned our garage into a home gym in lockdown which has been a life saver. Not sure we’ll be back to a gym this year with the fear of contamination though, gyms aren’t the cleanest at the best of times

I’ve been running and cycling a lot trying to prepare for a tough pre-season so have built my cv fitness back up. Although like a lot of people, with being at home so much, it’s very easy to crack open a few cans each night so I’m trying to avoid the beer belly

How many steps have you clocked up walking to and from the fridge?

I recently took up running. Weirdly, I dont think I would have started if it wasnt for lockdown. Too busy in a unhealthy routine, but it gave me a kick up the bum.

Now running around 8k every second day. Certainly feeling the benefits. And considering when I first started I could barely run 1k

Haha very true. When lockdown has lifted you can get naughtiness in other ways.

Although always better accompanied by a bottle of prosecco

Have lost 4lbs since start of lockdown. Put three on the first two weeks but managed to get back into the groove. Walking, cycling and doing exercises in the house. Everyone should be getting fit for covid. Give yourself a better chance. Just saying. No need for reply.

I started using the couch to 5k app but instead of running I do it on my exercise bike. On week 5 just now but I don't level up after the 3 days exercise I wait till I feel the current level is getting to easy. I also aim for 5 days instead of 3.

From tomorrow I am going to start one of the Joe Wicks Dumbell workouts on youtube

Excellent, well done. How do you find the app, is it easy to stick with and keep motivated?

Done a lot more cycling, decent weather thankfully. Managing to survive lockdown physically and have lost 7lbs, which isnt bad considering my casual drinking levels are up quite a bit.

Done some running and quite a bit of work out in the back garden. Made myself about 40 minutes routine. Feels good

Yeah quite easy to follow defo noticed a massive improvement with stamina.

Never moved on to the Joe Wicks thing but just got a weight bench delivered today so will be adding a lot more resistance training as well.

Determined to come out of lockdown a lot better than I went in

I started the couch to 5k programme just after lockdown started and found it really good. I don't think I would have progressed or even stuck with it without the app. Have completed the programme and running 5k three times a week. I don't think I'll go above 5k but am adding in some cycling now to raise my fitness a bit higher. Definitely wouldn't have started running without lockdown.
