I know this is not a swinging related post but a worthwhile one. I was into the Glasgow Donation place today donating Platelets. Even just now with all the masks and gloves on its still a must. Now guys how about you receive a little prick for a change and girls this is one that you’ll definitely feel satisfied for having. I always say that you would expect blood to be available if you needed it. Honestly its a scratch at about 20 minutes for blood or 2 hours for platelets.
It saves life’s ?? |

I just gave few weeks ago. Always go as often as allowed. The staff are amazing up here even with all the new protocols they have to follow. I still got my tunnocks tea cake too which I wasn't expecting so I was delighted |

Is it still free parking at the moment ? Might be easier for folk knowing they can get to it without any hassle . |

I had a motorcycle accident in 1982
where I received 3 pints of blood, due to this they refuse to allow me to pay back by giving blood
it was almost 40 years ago now and my blood has been tested on many occasions and all is good
yet they refuse to accept blood from me
even when they are crying out for blood |

I have Raynauds so can’t give blood; tried 3 times and fainted all three times after donating and they’ve said it’s the change in pressure is too much for my body to handle
At least I got to find out my blood type

I feel your pain. I gave for many years until they changed the questionnaire about fifteen years ago. It turns out that because my mother is from Latin America there’s a minute risk of me having something in my blood. Oh, and they don’t test for it because the test is quite costly. |

Have you looked at the criteria recently? Many things have changed in donor criteria, you can check it out on the scotblood website |

no I have not looked, I will, thank you
As I used to work offshore on oilrigs I used to get regular health checks and was offered full blood tests which checks for everything, I have had them done on 3 occasions all clear and full bill of health but they still wont take blood from me as I received as mentioned above when in a RTA |

I believe its if you've had a transfusion since 1980 you can't give but not a 100%. Or they may sttill take but do extra checks? Worth asking |

I have to give blood at least every 3 months to keep my iron levels down. I have a condition called hemochromatosis which means my body stores 2 much iron.
Am now in maintenance so allowed to start given blood again.
Was gutted when I gave a pint of blood every 5 weeks just to watch it going in the bin. They couldn't use it as it was to rich with iron.
I know how greedy am I people don't have enough and I have to much |

"Something I want to do, and once we return to some sort of normality, I will be making the time ,to do regular as I will do with other aspects of my life "
You can give blood now, it’s appointment only at moment so they can space people out for social distancing |

It’ll not be because of the Raynaud's but the fainting, you can only pass out so many times then they take you “off service” |

I just double checked and this is from the BTS Site
If you have received, or think you may have received, a blood transfusion since 1st January 1980, you will not be able to give blood. This measure was introduced in 2004 by the UK Blood Transfusion Services.
This is just one of a range of measures designed to minimise the risk of passing variant Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease (vCJD) through the population.
The chance of any individual contracting vCJD from a blood transfusion is already very small. Experts hope that these additional safety measures will help eradicate vCJD from the UK population.
You can still give blood if you received a blood transfusion in the UK before 1980.
If you received blood in another country before 1980 please contact us for advice.
You may be eligible if your own blood was given back to you (autologous transfusion).
If you would like to discuss any of the above, get in touch on 0345 90 90 999 |

Yeah, whilst I would eat & drink properly before giving but it was the change in pressure was what made me faint; not that I was squeamish at giving blood. Raynauds affects your circulation, so it could be a factor and I’ve noticed in recent years, I’ve become more sensitive to temperature changes, even indoors.

On a whim I emailed ScotBlood. It turns out that not only has the criteria changed, so has the testing policy: they will now carry out batch testing so I just need to make an appointment with them for a test.
The doctor I was reading emails was amazing. I gave her the various addresses I’ve lived at since I first gave blood and she’s been able to track me down in their records and provide me with a copy of my registration number.
Just need to make an appointment now. |
