1st : Mk1 Ford Fiesta. Held together with bailing twine and primer paint. It had a hole in the floor through which water would splash up when going through puddles.
Current : VW Touareg and Merc CLK.
Not really a car guy. I much prefer my motorbikes. |

Toyota Yaris 03 plate had for 6 years; loved it
VW urban fox
VW polo 16 plate and have had a year; bought from dealership, so effectively my first ‘new car’ as others were 2nd hand/private sales.
It was also incentive for Ian to pass his driving test

1971 Triumph 1500. Walnut dash and comfy seats. Rust bucket and slow but I loved it. Passed my test in it.
Now have a Vivaro crew van. Lots of room for all sorts of things. Had it for years and no plans to change anytime soon. |

Apologies for the lack of replies, we had a forum ban
Some questions answered
No I don’t have original boxes as they are not toys
I have a yard, a garage and lots at our house
I’m just handy with mechanics and welding, although I’m shit at selling on lol

Ha, that’s funny, but seriously, the aa and the rac are the recover equivalent of kwikfit or any other fast fit con job establishment
There are cheaper, better alternatives out there and people should source them out
And besides after waiting for 4 hours for the Aa to attend a tour bus I used to have, only for them to have to arrange recovery which took another 2 hours, they sent a transit style truck to recover a bus, cue another 3 hours waiting on a spec lift, I now have 3 recovery vehicles (2, 7.5 tonne, 1 3.5 tonne), a car trailer, a towing dolly, an a-frame and towing bars, I think I’m covered for eventual breakdown lol
Unless of course you drive a car without a spare wheel lol |

so far I've replaced all 4 archs, all 4 Jack point (non existent), inner & outer sills, floors behind seats, boot floor & both rear corners, corner at the window and that's before I get to servicing the engine. Glad I can do it all myself. |

It'll need a full respray if it's anywhere near the same amount of work as mine, the grinding burns and welding burns alone bounce everywhere. might be partly cos I use co2 though. |

Use an Aragon/co2 mix as it’s a much cleaner weld imo
I used a gasless mig to do the inner arches of my Subaru a few weeks ago, worst welding I’ve ever done, just blew straight through the car body, when I finally got it to weld it looked like John merrick with acne |

I know it is but it is also 4 times the cost & boc would back charge me 5years for my bottle marked as surplus (I found it in a lock up).
I've learned how to weld with co2 & I've got things like welding tiles to help stop holes blowing through & I've found the most common reasons it happens to me are the metal getting too hot thanks to my own lack of patience & bad prep...sealant between factory panels is a bitch. I'm working without a ramp too, my size helps cos I can fit in the wheel arch & under the car well & different masks help.
My neighbors must be hating me though cos I'm making all my panels with just hand tools, I only use 4 power tools welder, grinder, drill & a narrow sanding filey thingy I got myself for Xmas, it's as powerful as a flap disc on a grinder but varying speeds & can change angles & it's better for awkward spaces lol. |

I don’t have a ramp, when I need one luckily I have mates with commercial garages, however I do have one of those see saw hydraulic wind up lift things that can raise either the front or the back of a car to about 4 foot and the entire car 2.5 foot off the ground, takes 1.5 tonne as a max weight though
What is the file thing called cos it sounds like a tool I should purchase
|

I can get a ramp short term, these projects take too long though so I largely do without, just Jack & axle stands.
There's little point in me having one of those, 2 of my cars are too heavy for it
Definitely invest in one of these, it's how you see the TV shows get the lovely flat blends, grinder takes too much away if you try with it.

My mate had an old trooper years back and we used to take it of road, was pretty impressive and also seen a good bit of air off of a jump on the back road haha.
Yeah I can imagine the RS6 is a bit of a weapon |

I've had A5 and A4 avant quattro aslo. Both good cars too but I'm the same, definitely hooked on the BMW 3.0 Twin Turbo diesel engine since it benefits from both the performance and economy... That being said though not much compares to the 'jap shit' (haha) mention above as ive also had a few evos over the years and they're something else when it comes to handling and all out buzz to drive at speed
This thread has actually made me think of all the cars I've had over the years and I've ralized the there's been a lot! Ranging from small engined puddle jumpers to supercharged V8s haha.
Current F30 335D is stage 1 with bigger intercooler, different suspension and also swapped out the run flats for michellin pilot 4s and its totally transformed the car, ride comfort, handling and performance all better with sub 4 secs 0 to 60 which is pretty damn impressive from an 'old oil burner' so I'd recommend even just the tyre change if you haven't already done so as that alone makes a big improvement |
