I'm a key worker that relies on public transport.
The buses today are filled with elderly, mother's with strollers and kids in tow, groups of teens, and just anyone else who is out window-shopping. The roads are busy, there are people on the streets, and town looks like any other "normal" day. The queues for B&Q, ALDI, Homebargins, B&M, The Range, and pretty much every other shop that's open are streaming into the carparks.
New cases in the UK are still 5000± per day! This has not dropped in a month!

Unfortunately, Boris making statements about being 'past the peak' and "on the downward slope" & mentioning easing lockdown, has people believing that this is over. So now we are highly likely to be hit with a second peak that could well be worse than the first. |

I can see backlash from this.
Someone on another thread asked who is going pay to keep Scotland furloughed for another three weeks if the rest of the UK can start to return to work.

Until there's a vaccine, it's here to stay. It hasn't just disappeared because we all stayed in for a few months....

It’s actually quite simple, HMRC. HMRC own all the tax from the United Kingdom and took ownership of the furlough schemes.
Now not everyone will return to work quickly, the furlough scheme will see a return to work in specific stages, the services in England will no doubt be the same in Scotland however if not, that’s where the devolved powers come into play. HMRC will be bound to continue paying the furlough under the devolved powers held by the Scottish government.
What’s worse, a quicker return to normality risking another wave of the virus or a patient careful approach in stages as Nicola Sturgeon has indicated? The backlash would be for the fast return and second wave, only an idiot can criticise a nations leader being cautious if it statistically saves lives.
What is more odd and that no one seems to question is the conflicting updates from Boris in London. One moment he’s lifting the lockdown in England, relaxing all these rules, then after Sturgeon updates Scotland all of a sudden it’s an update from Boris stating nothing will change soon....which is it to be? |

I have been doing my normal shifts since this lockdown started. There has been a gradual increase in traffic and we at pretty normal off peak levels on the M8. As I work on the railway peak time travelling has increased, still no where normal but steadily going up. As much as you put signage up saying 2 metres and keep left signs to control queues its not working. Either its got to the stage where folk are saying fuck it or people in general are thick as fuck. Lockdown is hanging on by a thread and I doubt we will make 3 weeks |

There really is no way of knowing. From the published stats,
2% of the UK population have been tested..
18% tested positive.
.
However, the bias will be towards symptomatic individuals, therefore 18% will be an overestimate of the prevalence.
.
So how do we decide to lift lockdown if the prevalence is unknown. Well, you might assume that the decline in incidence is a result of assume fall in prevalence..
.
However, they should run a blanket national testing per region, therefore allowing those positive to isolate and those negative to be released from lockdown |

God forbid, but if after lockdown is relaxed and then there's a spike or second wave, then I hope all those who have been pushing and pressurising for a relaxation of the existing rules and those who have and are continually and blatantly ignoring the request for 'staying safe and staying home' are held accountable within their own conscience.
However, I'm probably aware some if not most of these people couldn't give a preverbal f**k about anyone apart from themselves. |

Yes.
The bus goes from the centre of Dundee which has some of the shops, past all the other shops I mentioned which are either stand alone or in retail parks.
That's kinda the whole point of public transport. It provides access to these types of places and with the reduction of services there are more people on less buses. |

Well think everyone even nurses in hospital aren't taking this seriously anymore, I went for my mri on hip and i sat in waiting room until it was my turn, 3 nurses one with face mask, all 3 no gloves, 1 porter, gloves no face covering porting 5 patients (3 elderly) after them sitting for 35 minutes in the hall ways ( I waited for 40 minutes) , 6 workmen in and out the one toilet that was getting fixed, that's right 6 no social distancing, no face coverings no gloves literally on top of each other. My radiographer had face mask and gloves and sat right next to me so I moved 2 seats down regardless , she apologised and continued the checklist before mri. Once I was finished I walked past nurses porters and cleaners and i can count on 1 hand how many were protected with face coverings and that were not shoulder to shoulder with each other . So can't help but wonder why they have become so relaxed with this in a hospital .
I have photographic evidence as I was taking pictures to show hubby when I got home as I was quite shocked especially as my mri got cancelled twice in past 2 months and all of a sudden there's a free spot, I accepted thinking it will be empty and everyone protected but radiology was packed ???
Seeing more and more cars on road everyday, more people having garden parties and bbqs |

Feel bad for saying this, I really do, but i am now just as worried, about my job. I appreciate I could be verbally attacked in a nice way am sure by my fellow fabbers.
I have loved ones too but also as a key worker (not healthcare system) I want the country to slowly move again.
I think now naturally, if we thinking health as a priority we need to think of everyone. This is my bad statement if your in healthcare you probably not even considering redundancy, losing your house, your car, your past earned treats cause of work. Appreciate your health is your wealth!!!
Am I putting health and wellbeing lower on my priority list! Absolutely not! BUT I am shitting a brick on how will I pay my rent in the over flooded job market - redundancy is on the horizon even though I have not had a missed day since. Just the sector am in is going to literally devastated !!
So yes in a controlled manner let's get people back out there and hopefully reduce the other stresses in the population.
Ok if your stating the moral high ground if financially secure and job secure.
Appreciate I don't know everyone's personnel situation but I do know mine.
Please let's get going again, controlled and reduce other types of health matters in the broad title of mental health and well being
Not meaning to offend anyone and please accept my apologies if so it was not meant. |

The furlough scheme is already committed to the end of June however if it is being extended they are looking at reducing the percentage of wages being paid. I think I heard it was being looked at reducing it to 60%
I’m bringing my employee off the furlough scheme and back to work on Monday. A lot of our contracts are going back to work and if we don’t carry out the work some other company will, this will in turn lead to us losing work in the long run and potentially losing staff and damaging the business.
I didn’t stop work, I carried on doing emergency repairs but I’ve noticed it has been getting busier on the streets as each day passed.
If they announce an end to lockdown then parks, beaches etc will become mobbed. People will rush out and about. I reckon they will not announce an end anytime soon but let people just do as they please as it’s a more gradual way of people leaving the house. |

Financial situation will always dictate to the govt before health .! Sadly they will take the view of “ “ well we will take the hit on the people we lose to this . “ before crippling the economy . No way they would see through the whatever figure it was they committed to for business . The initial lockdown was lax to begin with . As is current soundbites coming out . Johnson has no empathy to people . All about the figures and financial hit . |

"Health is always first but job security is difficult as government cant afford to keep people on furlong for long periods "
The entire reason for the furlough is job retention. It’s a fine balancing act as it will cost way more in benefits should folk lose employment.
It’s not a hand out. It’s our own money. I’ve contributed unbroken taxes for 35 years and continue to pay taxes on a 80% wage.
Personally I’d have only had £1500 furloughed money in total.
It’s running till the end of June but not all folks will have been on furlough for the 12 weeks. |

I'm actually really sick of these types of ranty posts everywhere.
You have no idea why people are out, where they are going or what's happening in their homes. Who is to say saying at home is safe, practical or even possible for everyone.
I'm also a key worker and I don't see the need to lord that over people as if to say I'm right all the time.
Ultimately no one knows anyone else's situaton. Most people are doing the best the can. A little bit of kindness, empathy and understanding would go a lot further than all the condemnation and hate people are spouting constantly over the last two months. |

very few viruses in history have vaccines, even after decades of medical advancements. Saw and article yesterday saying is a vaccine was created tomorrow, it would take at least 2 years to be used on humans. With the whole world needing vaccinated, they would have an order of who is vaccinated first. Elderly and vulnerable first, then children, then the "healthy adult population". Sadly in a society that desires entitlement, this is what we are now seeing all over social media. We have a good few friends who are classed as key workers and are lovely yet have been acting as if they are now some level above the rest. Ofcourse many of their job roles are so important just now, but once this is over, McDs workers will play a huge part in people’s daily routines again, same as coffee shop workers and retail workers.
It’s temporarily switched from different Social class (lower class to upper class) to being non key workers and key workers. It will revert back to normal once the pandemic is over and the current key workers who have been relied upon so heavily go back to operating within the five social classes & being taken for granted. The world is nuts! |

Couldn't agree more. The crap in FB about...."let's clap for bin men, cleaners...etc" is ridiculous.
If you judged someone's worth to society by the job they did prior to this, a few claps on your doorstep on a Thursday night doesn't make you any less of an arsehole. Everyone who works, volunteers or contributes to their community in some way is important...to varying degrees perhaps but important and significant none the less. |

Don’t get us wrong though, we feel heavily for those who are on the frontline working. Mr had to go and get bloods taken for something totally different from the pandemic and it was awful to see the nurse wrapped up head to toe. Can’t imagine how hard it is working on A&E and intensive care wards with the virus.
That being said, we both have jobs that would be considered good ones yet we are fully aware that we are no different at all to say, domestic workers, dog walkers or the unemployed. We are all the same, if anything this virus has proven that.
Odd times eh |

Don't get me started on the clapping. It's so hypocritical and a PR stunt to try and take the minds away from how much the powers that be stripped out of health and social care.
Care and support workers are still looked upon as the bottom of society. No one seems to care how much they are dealing with for so little pay or even recognition.
70% of the folk clapping voted for people who kept cutting funding and resources and benefits for vulnerable people. No one wants to report on the number of deaths that's caused. It's a lovely sentiment but nicer would be some sort of action to resource and pay them properly too. I'm not saying the NHS have it easy but all the fundraising going to them, will leave organisations who do the stuff they can't struggling even more. All of that just makes me fell thoroughly depressed. All the but it's a vocation crap is not an excuse for the pressure, hours and poor pay as well as the risks they take every day. Also people forget that it's likely not to be the NHS wiping your arse when you can't. Anyway.. Rant over.
Everyone contributes on some level, regardless of your job title. No one is better than anyone. Even in the worst of times though people are playing one upmanship.
We are all humans. We are all experiencing this crazy, scary world. We all have to navigate it as best we can. |

Also people forget that it's likely not to be the NHS wiping your arse when you can't. Anyway.. Rant over.

"Don't get me started on the clapping.
I actually can’t believe some of the utter bullshit I’ve read on here in recent weeks not just this tread!
I’m not criticising anyone but some horrible things been said on here recently and as someone who works on frontline in NHS it really fecking hurts and then makes my blood boil. Some people should come do 12 hrs in an ITU and then come back on here with the attitude! |

There's always a lot of crap and hate spouted but it's definitely got worse of late.
I don't think anyone wasn't being supportive of the NHS and if that's how some of my comment came across, I apologise. |

You have a point but there's too much doom and gloom sometimes aswell, i feel for the people who have had serious experiences and losses from covid or any other shape or form of illness or just life in general.

Well it wasn’t just that but the “people forget that it's likely not to be the NHS wiping your arse when you can't.” Comment was quite pointed! I’ve looked after palliative patients throughout my nhs career. I’ve sat with patients during the night when they’ve got no family with them and watched them breathe their last, and I’ve got really good friends who work in community for nhs in continuing care so it was uncalled for I fear.
99% of people have been brilliant over last few weeks but the ones who have had a go have been truly horrible! Maybe it’s because of what’s going on but we (and I’m not just speaking for myself) take it really personally! |

I think thats the thing with perspective. I work for a charity that provides social care, mental health and veterans services . So I see it from a different side. Neither of them is better than the other though and I genuinely didn't mean to cause offence. I don't actually give support either because I know I couldnt do it or nursing. I have huge respect for my colleagues and the NHS.
I just also see the struggles we have day in day out. |

I’ve gone in and been short staffed on many occasions and patients have suffered because of it. The only good thing that might come out of thus is people might start to realise how bad things are in all aspects of the care services wether it’s nhs or social care.
Your comment just sparked me and don’t think it was really called for |

Personally I don't think you help yourself with comments like this.
I get the struggle you must be going through but at the same time your just one aspect of society. Do you want to go and and stand in the shoes of the people that have lost everything ( except their life ) due to this pandemic. The people who are in the position now where they will be losing their jobs, houses, businesses , being able to feed their families, the prospects of living on benefits for years to come.
At the end of this pandemic you will still have your job , your pension, your prospects to move higher in the nhs, the ability to pay your mortgage and feed your family. Your struggle is here and now , did you give any thoughts on the extremely low paid or people on zero hour contracts before this pandemic. People have struggled for many many years in all different walks of life long before c19 and they will continue to struggle long after c19.
This is definitely not a pop at you personally or the job you do but there is always people worse off than yourself so comments like , come do my job for a 12 hr shift dosnt really help your point.

I watched someone my age die the other week they had children same age as mine so yes I know how grim it is.
I’ve also lost someone who I couldn’t be with during this pandemic! So maybe think before you post! |

got to agree with this.also this virus will claim
The same amount of lives,no matter what we do,all we are doing by isolating is taking the pressure off the nhs, fair enough, but we cant live like that forever ,people also need to be exposed to it to build immunity to it.personally I think the lockdown should have been lifted this week, people are struggling with absolutely no income, the economy needs to start moving again, now.and unfortunately the country will just have to suck up what the virus throws at us until there is a vaccine |

cannot even begin to tell any of you what it’s like to watch someone die of this. I’ve been at major incidents including explosions in last 20 years I’ve watched someone in the field have their leg amputated but nothing in last 20 yrs has prepared me for what I’ve seen in last 6 weeks.

Sorry for your loss but the only assumptions I made were you are in the midst of a struggle with your job and the fact you will still have a job when all this is over. If I'm wrong with these assumptions feel free to correct me.
That being said , my point was about you telling people to try doing your job for a 12 hour period, I simply asked if you would swap places with the people I highlighted in my last post.
Trust me I gave a lot of thought before my last post so to confirm I do think before I post.

I’d have rather been somewhere else when my loved one died! I may have a functional job by there are some things you don’t get over! I’ve sat with colleagues who’ve said when this is done they are quitting and I wouldn’t blame them because I’m seriously thinking about it as well!
Ps the thumbs and rainbows after your posts are really quite patronising |

Last thing I’m going to say ...
I was not trying to say anyone was better or worse of then anyone else. What I was trying to get across was there have been some things said not only on this thread but others and on other forms of media about nhs staff my point about doing a 12hr shift was that until you’ve been there don’t judge. I took particular Displeasure at something that was said on here about nhs staff. The person has since said they didn’t mean to cause offence which is fair enough.
I’m not selfish enough to realise I’m the most worse off person in the world I realise people have lost far more than I have.
Stay safe everyone |

So now I'm being patronising, let me try and be as clear as I possibly can be. I am fully and whole heartedly in support of the nurses and doctors and all nhs staff at a very difficult time. But when one of their members , ie yourself, say to people try doing my job for a 12 hour shift then in my opinion your not showing the same respect to other people that are struggling , albeit in a totally different way than yourself. My original comment merely said I don't think you do yourself ny favours with those types of comments. |

"I'm a key worker that relies on public transport.

We are all human beings, maybe we should start being human to the best level not the worst. It’s easy to judge someone when you have no idea what their story is. Yes you will always get those that flaunt common sense. That will never change but we should not drop standards just because they do. There are still hard times ahead, we can choose to count our blessings even in this difficult time or we can nit pick and bitch... there are always choices.

"very few viruses in history have vaccines, even after decades of medical advancements. Saw and article yesterday saying is a vaccine was created tomorrow, it would take at least 2 years to be used on humans. With the whole world needing vaccinated, they would have an order of who is vaccinated first. Elderly and vulnerable first, then children, then the "healthy adult population". He said with the amount of people to be vaccinated, and the logistics of numbers, the healthy adult population would NOT begin vaccinated within 5 years of tomorrow. "
