You probably already know my views on it.

Then again loads on here were defending the rule breakers spouting on about the fact their not breaking the law.

As I said over a week and a half ago, that's the deaths starting to hit close to home for everyone let's hope those who thought it was funny making witty comments about breaking the rules don't need to bury a family member in the coming weeks. Then it won't be so funny I'm guessing.

She should do the right thing and resign, how are folk expected to follow the rules when she can't! She's only sorry because she got caught

FM kept going on about how she needs her expertise, surely she's not the only person in Scotland who's qualified to do so

I’d expect there is a second person who can step into her place within a short time that would only require a brief crossover of time for the new person to be up to date with all the pertinent details and plans . The only way to follow the rules is through trust and the public have lost trust in her .

Exactly right. Resignation is her only option. She knew what she was doing and her actions reflect the privileged 'holier than thou' mindset demonstrated by politicians of all persuasions.

Devils advocate here...

- so they have a second home.

- thet are a family unit.

- they stay safe and at home generally following government guidelines

- they are within the same family unit at there second home following the same government guidelines.

The only issue is that they travelled in a car together to another house which only they will be in.

Essential travel aside here.

As an example. You have a second home. It floods due to burst water pipe. How would you know unless you went there to check every week. Does that count as essential travel!!?!? Put it another way. What if the house is broken into.

I get the whole essential travel. Stay at home thing.

BUT she is less harmful than the countless idiots going to say a beach or a park or hill on a sunny day like today.

Has she made a mistake. Probably. Lead by example etc. Is she doing any real harm in the bigger picture. probably not.

Calling for Resignation... pah!! For what. You slap the £30 quid fine on her and get on with life.

Beat me to it. I'm sure some on here may have a holiday flat/home or caravan and will probably take a wee drive to check its OK and not been ransacked or robbed. We are mostly all stuck at home and the thieves know this so are probably targeting holiday homes and caravans right now. I agree given her position she could have made a better judgement, sent her partner for example, but has she done more harm than those people walking in the park for a sunbath or a kickabout?

So you admit she’s truly clueless also or is it the ones just doing the same as her? I never said she defended her actions I said the first minister did by allowing her to continue in a job.

She wasn’t stopped she got a warning after she was pictured walking across a golf course. I was actually in a police officers house yesterday working and I asked him and also asked a mate who is a police officer whether they are stopping people and asking them questions about their journeys and they both replied the same. No. They are down in numbers and unnecessary contact with the public could be a risk.

She has no option but to resign.

Lost all credibility and this is going to lead to others deciding to ignore the rules which will lead to deaths and longer lockdown/slower return to normal.

No need to travel to her holiday home far less with her family. Would have been a number of times they could have infected someone/become infected themselves.

What if they had a car accident? There's a whole family needing hospital treatment needlessly never mind taking Police, Fire Brigade, vehicle recovery time and more risk of infection.

There literally couldn't have been anyone worse to ignore the rules.

Meanwhile we're rationing milk because we're only going out once a week to get food so that we do not do anything to infect some very vulnerable family members.

Its about risk. What she (presumably) did carried no more risk than going shopoing at her local. However, if someone else does it and goes into a more populated area or doesnt observe the directions to avoid the virus, theyd continue the infection.

There is nobody to replace her. Much as her actions were wrong and reprehensible, she should stay- in the background- since the worst is yet to come.

Asking for her to lose her job is pathetic and classless, look around you at what unemployment is doing to some and the chaos of no access to work or an income is doing to many up and down the country.

Our CMO is actually very talented from a leadership and changes for NHS Scotland. While what she did was agreeably stupid, there are far worse offenders out there!

She has a job currently, not as an ObGyn doc, but as an NHS leader. You can't replace people like that over night.

Give her a break, let her guide the NHS through the crisis, and then once we're at the other side, maybe she can reconsider her termination. In the meantime, authorities should focus on the families sunbathing in the park or having day trips crowding in supermarkets

Anybody could replace her but she brings particular skills that are best used where they are. There’s nothing ‘political’ about it. Changing tack at this stage would be catastrophic.

Nothing about Covid-19 should be political, and that was the sense I had in Scotland. England, on the otherhand, is and to the probable detrement of its inhabitants. The CMO shoukd stay and at the very least, be an example of stupidity

It wasn't a fuck up though , it was simply a disregard to a very simple instruction. Even worse was it was herself issueing the instructions. She should resign as an example to others that we all must follow the rules and save lives."

Yes but Charlie and members of his entourage were already displaying symptoms when they decided to travel, Matt Hancock out and about after 6 days of self isolation opening a emergency hospital whilst coughing and sneezing all over the place.

If she goes then so should they.

She’s personally saved hundred of children’s lives as a doctor. Far more worthy than the elite.

"Our CMO is actually very talented from a leadership and changes for NHS Scotland.

Please explain to me why you say she was just being stupid and we should give her a break however families sunbathing and keeping 2 meters away from other sunbathers you say should have the authories focus on them. Your statement is another example of hypocrisy on Fab. "

Not hypocrisy. It's relative.

She's still working on a high stress role, yet is still fallible. Her professional skills are unique and required in a pandemic, and not comparable to politicians who are demonstrably disposable.

The sunbathers and many hoardes of shoppers are mostly not working, and just bored.

Besides, did she come within 2m of anyone on her travels.

Plus, I did say she should step down once this virus heat is over to set example.

I can't say as I have no idea what they have done. If they stand up in front of the nation and say they totally diregarded the advice laid down by the government by breaking the rules then of course they should resign but I don't think they have made any statement like that . Or am I wrong ??

"The police never stopped her.the sun newspaper photographed her walking along a golf course near her house.

As iv said previously the police are using common sense.

Group gatherings social distancing yes.

Someone out walking their dog in a secluded area.

No.

Walking their dog can be part of peoples daily excerise and us fully acceptable and within the rules we are all following. You repeating that multiple times a day or in someone else's case repeatedly going out in her car to a spot 5 minutes away is against the rules, you as a dog owner can't pick and choose what rules you should listen to and which you can say fuck it , I'm doing what I normally do. That's why I say your being irresponsible, selfish fucks.

No this again. We know what you think by now surely you can talk about something else.

For someone with the username Zest for life you aren’t half boring us to death

I told you , I will call out the hypocrisy when I see it. People can't comment on there breaking rules when they do it themselves. Only commenting on the hypocritical posts. "

I'm not a dog owner but even I know that you cant walk a dog just once a day, fuck me it's back teeth would be floating. The hour exercise doesn't need to be taken as one hole hour so those walking their dog responsibly for 10/15 mins af a time with no contact with others then they are not breaking the rules, neither are they when travelling a short distance to walk them. As for out heath leader, she needs to go. She is in a position at this moment in time where she cant be seen to be making such a stupid mistake and needs to be held accountable, as does the photographer and journalist as following her isn't an essential journey so they should be fined for it. We need to start taking this seriously. Out illustrious leaders are wandering around bumping into each other and not looking at what other countries are doing. Germany, Korea and China have it under control by testing....testing....testing. some NHS workers aren't being tested even when they have been exposed to it for rear they will take time off sick. Were going about it the wrong way.

Hugh Pennington from Aberdeen university is actually far more qualified on these thing than her so there is someone who can replace her no problem

Pennington is way to involved in politics.

The CMO was appointed in 2015, not in response to Covid19.

Pennington retired nearly 20 years ago.

Pennington worked predominantly in research.

When you say way to involved in politics you mean the wrong type of politics for our government?

He already has experience with his e.coli work

The response wasn’t to who can come in and be the new cmo it was meant as in there is someone who can replace her in the short term during this crisis, someone who has way more experience

He’s far more qualified than the gynaecologist

Pennington’s background is bacteriology NOT virology.

What was Catherine Calderwoods background?

Again I’ll emphasise...

She was appointed in 2015, not in response to C19

Pennington is NOT a virologist

He tells people to wash their hands after dressing meat with a paper towel not a kitchen towel. "

He has experience in pandemics.

You already hit the nail on the head in your first comment about politics. Unfortunately this comes first in scotland

No one is suggesting calderwood was put in this position due to coronavirus, someone said there is no one to replace her. That’s not the case. I’m not saying Pennington replaces her as CMO but he’s far more qualified to advise the government on pandemics

As an employer here’s what I look for

Do they have the skills to do the job

Do they have experience

Timekeeping/Sickness blah blah

lastly

Will their political or religious views have an effect on how people view my company.

That question is NOT “is their political or religious views different to mine” as I couldn’t care less what school they went to or party they vote for its whether they are intolerant or bigoted to others that matter

However your very first reason was penningtons political views which highlights how backward we really are when that takes precedent over national health

He's 81 years old. He should be in 12 week isolation due to increased risk. If he was appointed as Calderwood's replacement would you be calling for his resignation when he broke isolation to be at the briefings ?

Could he not work/advise from home?

To quote another fabber are you being hypocritical? His work would be classed as essential

We’ve not heard much about Charlie. Is he even still alive? Bojo looks like crap and I have few choice words for him. I’d leave him in a hospital corridor if it wouldn’t cost me my registration.

I feel for the former CMO. We don’t know her reasons and she must be under a lot of stress. She didn’t go hang out on the streets or go shopping - she went to her other home. I don’t see the big deal. Don’t think it warranted resignation, especially at this time but hey ho, it’s done now.

"Wee nicola should sack her now "

The FM could not sack the CMO, She’s a permanent civil servant employed by the Scottish Govt.

Her boss is Director-General Health Social Care/Chief Executive of the NHS, Malcolm Wright. Where was he? He should have acted swiftly - to suspend and carry out disciplinary process.

A CMO’s job will be to pull together all experts in the field of pandemics. It’ll be a vast base of medical, pharmaceutical, research, numbers, statistics and projections, with input from policing, town planning, NHS, medical suppliers and goodness knows what else. then to work out a feasible strategy THEN to present it to the public in an understandable way. Add in presentable and good looking ( in this fascile society).

People like that are hard to find and that knowledge takes time to aquire. That I think was the reason for not firing her, especially at this time, two weeks in. I hope the deputy is that person.

She travelled to a second home with 3 others no doubt stopping for fuel, perhaps nipping to another shop for supplies, perhaps out walking touching gates and fences, stopping and talking to neighbours or friends who knows we don't have a complete rundown of her movements, so that's 4 people potentially out moving around, that's the bigger issue! The papers can't take pics of her kids and what they were doing but clearly someone made the phone call and reported her because they were concerned or enraged by her actions and flippant disregard for the protocols she was setting down

My younger two kids haven't left the house for 4 weeks, my daughter is asthmatic and had a throat infection so she was off school even before they knocked off, she's been to camhs has a social worker and a support worker because she's been struggling for the last two years, she's not coping well with this, I'd love to take her a wee afternoon drive with the dogs to the beach to get her out the house and I feel like the worst mum in the world because I can't let her

The CMO actions most definitely called for her resignation, as for Charles he owes the public an apology and explanation for his actions, regardless of whether it was before or after the lockdown he travelled. She at least did that and rightly so, and now she's paying the consequences for her actions so might very well be a wake up call to others to show solidarity that no one is above the law

What the woman did was wrong and she should not say don't travel then do so herself but there are posts on here defending Charlie but condemning Calderwood? Did the op herself not say a few weeks ago in defence of Charlie that if she had a second home she too would go to get away from it? if you condemn one then condemn them all.

"CMO resigned

Bojo in hospital

Never a dull moment

It's the tosspots revelling in their own misplaced smugness though it all that piss me off.

It’s a crying shame she’ll not be remembered for the numerous newborns she saved, nor the family’s she comforted.

"

What was her name again ?

I feel a tiny bit sorry for her, she saw fit to do the right thing and resign so credit to her for that. However, perhaps if she had spared a thought for the hundreds of weddings and birthday party plans that are now ruined because the people must follow the rules. Or had she spared any thoughts for people like myself that could not attend funerals due to lock down. Did she spare a thought for the millions of kids she told every day to stay home away from their friends. Had she given all those things a thought maybe she would have realised her 2 weekends away were not really such a necessity after all and her resignation would not have been required .

It was an 80 mile round trip, I can't think of any modern car that won't do a lot more than 80 miles on a tank of fuel. The rest of your post is just supposition to suggest a family of 4 cannot drive an hour or less without the need to stop off to go shopping ETC.

"So every day we're constantly hearing her voice telling us to stay at home etc

Not exactly leading by example is she

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-52171694"

Yip absolute disgrace. She would have known she was being watched. Iys her own fault. Just does to show not all health officials stick by their Supposed Examples ehh.
