Do you think Scotland would have cruised through this viral nightmare with ease as an independent nation? Or is the old foe of Westminster still handy to have now n again?
I've lit the fuse.....discuss |

As for cruised through..... in theory, we could have closed our borders and imposed 14 days quarantine on travellers if politicians had been bold enough to take such unpopular measures early enough. But public opinion at that stage would have been hostile.
UK and Ireland, with the benefit of island status, could have locked down. Perhaps in future, should there be another pandemic, this option will be considered. |

A border would have helped, the highlands were getting swamped with Londoners and southerners heading north to escape the cities and they helped put strain on nhs as well as possibility of spreading virus.
so home, do not travel North, you are not welcome at this time |

In the same way that say Spain and Portugal cruised. Or Ireland and NI for that matter. Nationhood is nothing to do with this.
Scotland is a nation, we all agree on that. Being a normal nation/state at this time would make us exactly the same as every other nation/state. You must think that the UK is the best of all possible worlds. I dont. I can't wait for its end. |

Yes Scotland is a nation. But being part of a bigger union is always a good thing. This virus knows no borders does not discriminate on any basis whatsoever. So time to put away the small town mentality so beloved by the Nicola cult. We most certaily are all in this together, it is time to face facts folks |

appears Londoners know no borders either and dont take advice to stay home, few weeks ago many were traveling up to get away from the City, they were all soon sent packing back home and told to stay in their main registered home rather than spread disease and clog up our surgeries in North of Scotland.
People from large cities should stay in their large cities at this time.
Read the notices posted in beauty spots and lay-bys which tell you to stay home
we are now even closing our lay bys to keep motorhomes out. |

"The scottish government and especially the first minister doing a great job "
agreed
we (in Scotland) are coping much better than South of the Border
still think the Border should be Policed |

They are doing OK but remember the total population of Scotland is much smaller than England and generally the population is more dispersed - it is therefore not surprising we have had less cases so far and that the hotspot is in the most populous area of Glasgow. |

Yea let's have roving patrols at the border with hard check points on the main routes.
We could have aerial support to monitor from above on vehicle movements and patterns.
Fuck it let's just build a wall.

I don't think Scotland's status as part of the UK or not would have made any difference at all.
Scotland, which is about the same size as England in landmass size has less than 1/10th of the population. That means, just on a person per square meter bases, people are already more socially distanced to start with so one would expect the rate of spread to be lower.
From what I'm seeking the measures taken and spread of this disease seems remarkably consistent (with the exceptions of Germany and Sweden). If the Scottish government is taking the advice of the medical experts, and I believe it is, as that advice would be the same regardless of Scotland's status with England or the UK, I don't see how this is even an issue.

Even if I dont see it myself, my offspring will dance a jig for me. It's inevitable, it's normal. It will come. |
