John Lewis Closing

No you might call me a bit of a sceptic but with the government now paying 80% of workers wages laid off due to the virus...john lewis will still trade online.

Do you think the loss making high st will...maybe make use of the 80% rule and this will be the final nail in the coffin for our high street department stores?

You're right, it is going to shutter a number of high street stores, particularly those with high debts and rents. I would foresee Greggs and Costa having a lean year. M&S will try focusing on their food sales. Nobody will need new outfits in a plague year. Debenhams is likely to go the way of Thomas Cook or try to focus on Internet sales. I don't think WH Smiths are going to have a good year either.

This is a big worry as I love shopping in the high street,something we must look at when life gets back to normal

And at the other end of the scale primark have shut too...

You do know that John Lewis is a staff owned partnership and that this is a temporary closure? Staff are being reallocated to Waitrose and still being paid.

Yes I knew they are partners,but no I did not know they were being moved to waitrose. And if that is the case I'll swallow my words

Yes I knew they are partners,but no I did not know they were being moved to waitrose. And if that is the case I'll swallow my words "

....and not scamming the government for business support money .
