Banks how safe is your cash

You ever had difficulty trying to withdraw a large amount of cash from your bank, seems its hard enough for you to get hold of your own cash never mind anyone else get it.

with interest rates now at 0.25% is it worth having large amounts of cash in a bank

and how safe is your cash within that bank?

I've never had a "large amount of cash". So not something I'm worried about.

Are you worried about ATMs functioning or on line transfers?

Central

"The gov covers the first 75 grand for each person"

If you have below that level in individual banks, then you can spread your levels of risk to zero.

Yes and it makes you wonder, given the £75k per person, why did they bailout the banks in 2008?

Leading up to the financial crash it was only £35K which was increased to £50k following the Irish banking problems

Ok so what percentage of the UK population had over £35k? At a guess 10% maybe 20%? So was it really necessary?

For the people that have the liquidity of cash most definitely yes it was needed.

Another scaremongering thread.

Misery really does love company it seems.

£75k deposit guarantee is as a result of an EU requirement.

It's defined in Euros so used to be worth more for us.

£75k is incorrect, try again.

Words not making sense to you again?

Typo. £85k

Why are you whining then?

Regardless, do stop scaremongering at every opportunity.

so with .25% interest rate (base) do you advise to put all your savings in a bank, lets say a small amount of £100,000

"Banks how safe is your cash"

£100,000 is not a small amount of cash for most people. Congratulations for Showing off about how rich you are.

If you have £85,000 in a bank it's safe. It is losing value but it's safe.

Who said all of your money should be in a bank? Anyone?

Currently all assets are being sold for cash. Even gold in a financial crisis. Is that rational? Probably not, but it seems that people believe that it is safe.

Stop scaremongering.

I think at the moment it's just a case of having your cash in places that you can't lose it and it looses the least value over time as possible.
