Elderly Self-Isolation. Leisure Venues,ShopsandSchools Shut. Travel Bans.
Jump to: Newest in thread
It’s likely to be announced by the government shortly due to Coronavirus that the elderly over 70 years of age with underlying health conditions will have to self-isolate for months, which will create difficulties for those on their own. Leisure venues like bars, pubs, clubs, & cinemas, & non-essential shops are likely to be asked to shut. Schools & nurseries are likely to be shut creating childcare & work problems. Non-essential travel banned. What does everyone think about this & how are they going to manage? |

The elderly need help,I know of two people in homes and there families cannot visit. One of these was worried about there family so she decided to leave and had a bad fall.
I am a volunteer for an age charity and my clients often need me if only to see a smiling face.
Surely cinemas can operate on reduced capacity with booked seats only with customers being so many seats apart from each other.Closing schools surely not good as children not effected by the virus.
Look at Italy and China the worst effected countries, have there draconian measures worked answer no |

Children can also be infected. Infected children need not have symptoms but will infect their parents, grandparents and others.
In China, draconian measures have had a huge effect, just look at the statistics. In Italy, nobody followed the rules, that's why it's such a big problem.

Alas this is mainly due to ignorance. Eg. People claiming children cannot be infected and then going to visit elderly people.

What is the British race? I recommend a visit to a psychiatrist as soon as possible although I'm afraid it's too late |

If I'm asked (or one of my family is) then we'll notify those we need to (primary school - collage - others)
I'll switch the alarm clocks off and spend time at home
The only hardship would be to my 2 dogs, they usually get 4 good walks a day and would be confined to the back garden. They'll survive and forgive me, eventually, I think. I
My understanding is children under 10 carry the virus, however, show no symptoms or don't seem to get anything as bad as a mild cold |

We are but a small step behind Italy. We're no longer recruiting accurate numbers of people infected, as most people are no longer tested here, so although we scoffed at the Chinese figures, ours are suppressed, with limited testing capacity and very limited proportions of people given tests.
Very restrictive measures limit its spread, as other countries show. Go with that evidence, rather than unfounded ideas of herd immunity, which has no evidence basis.
We've made mistakes but just need to do what's right from now. I've not got the authoritarian strategy ready but we'll likely need to obey rules more than we've stopped the headless buying loo roll.
We're strapped as the government failed to invest in social care systems and cut the NHS budget since 2010. This means that those elderly who are isolated will have limited potential for home support. We've a government that doesn't care for the wellbeing of the masses. |

I thought leavers kept bleating on about how leaving the EU wouldn’t affect our ability to travel?
I could also point out that this virus originated in China and last I checked China is not a part of the EU. But don’t let simple logic get in the way of your xenophobic rant.
