"I thought it would be a done deal or isnt it clear as that what is the latest about it?"

Not looked it up but two things are for sure

1. The UK will negotiate a trade agreement with the USA

2. The UK will be negotiating from a weak position to start with and could become weaker still depending on what Boris does between tradewise between the EU / WTO etc etc

Yes it probably will, cos it sounded like a very easy deal to get as trump said that if you leave the eu you have a deal with us straight away. I guess it will not be that clear cut by the sound of it.

No wonder US corporations donated so much cash to the leave campaigns.

Easiest way to do things is have tariffs on all goods in all directions no need to sell any family jewellery just to get a deal

So everything will be more expensive for the consumer? Great news

I wonder why nearly every single country in the world does not follow the above "easiest way to do things"

If some desperate fool was willing to sign whatever is put in front of them, it's perhaps one of the easiest things to do. Get your pen out ready.

The UK/USA agreement will likely need the UK to lose some sovereignty but that sort of thing never bothers people. An independent tribunal will adjudicate any disagreements between the UK and any US company etc that sues us, as the UK courts will be irrelevant.

It looks very bleak now as wheather the uk will get a deal or not with them as boris said no to a meeting with trump because he wanted the uk to have the 5g network. I think it is the chinese that have it so they could spy with it.

I am sure we will get a trade deal with the USA, but it will be on their terms.

Like the trade deal with China, expect extra tariffs to be added when they feel like it.

nice to finally see some honesty out of the government trade deal....

using their own figures, and confirmed by international trade sec, Liz truss, a "uk-us trade deal" would likely increase GDP by 0.16%....

shame a no deal/WTO agreement with the the EU would decrease GDP by anywhere between 4.9% and 7.6%......

but yey!!!!!..............

I believe we will yes, however this depends if the democrats retain the house in Nov 2020 as the dems will not give the UK or Trump another win (back of the queue etc)

If the Dems do retain the house then it will be 4 more years of Russia bad, Ukraine bad, orange man bad, impeach impeach, and countless other wedge issues.

If the house flips Republican then yes , we will get a deal.

Of course we will get a trade deal and it really does not matter about the politics.

All that matters is that the US will change their current trading deficit with the UK to a trading surplus and the U.K. will see a long term benefit of between 0.1% and 0.2% of GDP.

Bearing in mind that leaving the EU under any circumstances at all will see a hit to GDP of anywhere between 4% and 8% - depending on who is asked and the nature of the future deal.

Caveat to add that the Government dispute the leaving figures but will not release their own. Odd huh?

Last time I looked the percent of uk gdp that came from trade with the EU was 8% so are you supporting the idea that we wont trade at all with the eu from the end of the year ? Now that is project fear turbo charged.

That is a somewhat stereotypical one-dimensional thought process and a perfect illustration of how wrong it is to try to simplify complex issues.

Direct trade with the EU accounts for approximately 8% of UK GDP, disruption of that trade will directly affect it and the second, third and even fourth tier behind that. The loss of all EU trade would probably knock back around 20-25% of GDP because of secondary shock to the economy.

An example of how the problems might suddenly escalate would be to imagine how your totally balanced household budget would be affected if you both lost your jobs as your budget outgoings mounted and your ability to pay faltered and required you to look at secondary borrowing to meet your obligations.

The sink drains away very fast.

Well even the pessimistic forecasts are nowhere near yours, imvho the downturn in Eu land and world wide will have more potential to damage uk plc than wto trade with europe, but of course it will be blamed on brexit,
