"Well done Scotland glad they are able to keep the EU flag flying over Holyrood and would be welcome with open arms back in the EU.
Think we will apply fo a Scottish passport. "
The EU flag is also the flag of the Council of Europe, of which the UK is still a member. It should still be flown quite rightly and proudly. |

It's still flying because the UK is still a member of The Council of Europe
I think some leavers seem to think Brexit was all about leaving The Council of Europe too |

Over 50% of Dutch voters want to leave the EU. Wonder what flag they will choose to fly then. Not that they are likely to be given a vote on the option to leave. |

"Scotland wants independence then wants to join the EU?
Doh! ??????"
Some people (rather too many actually) seem unwilling to even try to accept that the U.K. was an equal partner in the largest and most successful political and economic union in the world. There was no independence by leaving the EU - just a huge loss to all of us in order to appease some misguided, Nationalist jingoism.
The Scots quite rightly want to still be a partner in that European political and economic union but to do that, they now have to break free from the undemocratic union in which the Government is forcing them to stay.
The Scots are being forced to stay in an undemocratic union. Do you not see the difference between the unequal United Kingdom and the politically balanced European Union?
Try thinking. |

I am sure they will make the referendum legally binding rather than advisory , so 52/48 is fine |

I think that if there is a 52/48 vote in favour of leaving then Sturgeon will act in a way that May and Johnson didn’t act and she will push for devolution Max with a guarantee of holding a further referendum in five years time.
She will use what the Tories did as a beating stick against them to draw out huge concessions from them. She probably won’t want to leave with a divisive small majority but she will derive maximum benefit from the vote for Scotland.
As I said before and after the Brexit referendum, a small majority either way is not a mandate to make huge constitutional changes. After the Brexit referendum Cameron should have stayed on and made a quick decision to leave the political constructs of the European Union, but stay in the CU and SM with a provision to review that situation after 10 years. |

From a personal point of view, I would like to think that the United Kingdom is a Union that Scotland and Wales would want to be a part of. Forcing the Scots to stay is a failure of UK Governance and id the Scots do vote to leave I would wish them good luck and ask questions as to how any sitting UK Government could enable circumstances to develop to fracture the last vestiges of the Kingdom. |

There was a vote on it, in case you forgot.
Over two million rejected independence in favour of the Union, the greatest demonstration of democracy in the history of Scotland. "
One of the main arguments for Scotland staying in the union is no longer valid, in case you haven't noticed so it's not surprising another vote is being asked for. |

That is simply making an argument for the sake of arguing. Scots people by and large wanted to stay in the EU and were told that the best chance of that happening was stay in the United Kingdom. This was a major part of Indyref.
I think there will now be a narrow margin the leave and Sturgeon will use that to beat the Tories over the head mercilessly. |

OK, obviously need to explain it
Scotlands independence referendum 2014 - One of the main arguments for remaining in the union was its the only way to stay in the EU.
That argument is now void, that argument may have swung the vote in remains favour but now it's been taken out of the equation meaning many who voted remain in the union to stay in the EU may well now want to leave the UK. |

That exercise in democracy was abused corrupted by the WM government's interference and false promises. Threats of being bombed, wheeling out the supposedly impartial queen to commit treason (in her duties to the sovereign rights of the people of Scotland) by indicating her preference, Cameron urging foreign heads of state to interfere by coming out against independence, promising that a vote to remain was also a vote to remain in the EC and finally, when an eve of vote poll showed a majority in favour of independence, contravening the electoral laws by wheeling out the scoundrel Gordon Brown to make the infamous vow of maximum devolution.
Some democracy!
There is no reason, if one believes in democracy, why this question should not be added on to every GE vote.
And, if their motives are upright, there is no reason why the rest of Britain should not be entirely relaxed about a nation deciding that self-government is a natural state of affairs.
Anyone who would deny individuals and countries the right to self determination is an abuser. |

At the end of the day the powers that be have decided not the public.
Scotland was never going to get independence as the UK super tycoons and media moguls were not going to let that happen.
Do you really think those in the upper echelons of the UK government would let Scotland do there own thing and leave the United Kindom?

You can be in favour of being governed by another country, if you are so inclined. (no shortage of uncle jocks, sadly).
But, unless you are a FASCIST (like Lisa "cosh them" Nandy), you can not be against asking the people in a vote, with every new electorate enjoying that right. |

And if/when there is Scotland could apply to join....its a simple 10 yr process from start to end. They wouldnt need to do much...
Just agree to join the Euro, Bring their debt/gdp ratio down with massive austerity cuts as no longer subsidised by rest of UK etc.
Good luck with that. |

The financial reparations for decades of plundered oil revenues redirected towards spending in England will be substantial.
RUK, with an already massive debt, may struggle to make the payments, however. |

Strong and stable is so passe.
As with so many other things, the tories are happy with a currency falling on its arse. Their speculator friends and donors make lots of money when there is foreign exchange chaos.
Brexit was an example of a country committing seppuku, but the history of the tragic Pound over the past 30 years has been one of death by a thousand cuts.
Welcome to the UK. Our politicians love a race to the bottom... coming soon to food standards, civil rights legal protection and workers' employment rights. But we have "taken back control" so that's all right, then! |

Nope.
Last poll found between 2 thirds and 3 quarters would vote to remain.
Highest polling a leave vote ever got was 48%.

I think you'll find there's a fundamental difference between your comparisons
Scotland very well may have had to leave the EU whilst leaving the UK if they'd voted for independence but once they'd left the UK Scotland then would of been able to seek EU membership in their own right.
Vs

If the EU is a dictatorship, surely they wouldn’t allow a member the opportunity to leave, right? |

"They did not let us leave the people voted and demanded to leave ..with or without a deal ....what do you understand about the democratic system..."
I understand that article 50 is an EU protocol that allows members to leave. Which is a bit of a strange thing for a ‘dictatorship’ to have. |

Others will follow?
EU support is up across the whole block since June 2016.

"Forcing?
There was a vote on it, in case you forgot.
Over two million rejected independence in favour of the Union, the greatest demonstration of democracy in the history of Scotland.
Are you sure about that?
What we were told was that an independent Scotland would not be in the EU.
I find it strange that independence supporters are crying about leaving the EU now, when they didn't care in 2014.
Who said scotland will not be in EU ?"

For many good reasons, I doubt the accuracy of this comment.
An independent Scotland will, undoubtedly, have its difficulties - all countries do. However, if New Zealand - a country with a similarly sized population and economy - can be independent on the other side of the world; is it really impossible that an independent Scotland, relatively close to Europe, isn't viable?
That doesn't seem logical. |

False. https://www.dutchnews.nl/news/2019/04/no-to-nexit-dutch-most-likely-to-vote-to-stay-in-the-eu/"
Brexiters will point out that the article is over a year old and when the dutch see what a success the Brits are making out of it they will rush to ditch the EU along with all the other countries.

Not all do.
But certainly some posters on here are desperate for the EU to fail. I would guess it's so they can feel justified in voting leave. |

I was making fun of the regular poster here who is openly confused about everything going on and makes wild inaccurate posts with little of no thought.

Anyone on here ever been in a decent job but fancied a change of job ?
Imagine your working for British Airways, for instance, but want to work for Jet2. You go for the interview it all goes well and the interviewer puts his arm round you at the end and says "hey we like you, pretty sure you have the job".
At that point do you go back to BA and hand in your notice ?
Or do you wait till the letter comes thro the door which confirms you have the job before handing in your notice ?
Think the second option is the most sensible ?
Well, look at this, the SNP want to leave to UK and all they have had is some guys in Brussels putting their arm round Nicola's shoulder and saying "of course we'll welcome you into the EU"
If I were a Scottish voter I'd want a written confirmation from each of the 27 EU Countries (as they all have to agree) that they would ALL agree to Scotland joining before I put my cross on the paper to leave the UK.
Think all 27 will do that ? Easy way to find out, get Nicola to ask them to do it. I won't hold my breath on that ! |
