Hoping that it won't happen, but is there a possibility that "the troubles" could return?
Would like to hear from those in North and the Republic's thoughts in particular |

Can't see the troubles returning to the terrible carnage of the past, there is a constant drip drip of dissent republican low key voilence and the danger is that they can get lucky and pull off a spectacular like killing a large number of security forces or a high profile political figure,
As for the loyalist murder gangs if they attempt to return to murdering innocent Catholics they will find that they will not have support or collusion from the police and army that they enjoyed during the height of the troubles and there efforts will only amount to murdering their own people and destroying their own areas, also i don't think the British government and army would be so breathtaking stupid as they have been in the past. |

The chilling intervention from the most active terror group in the province will fuel fears of a spike in attacks amid ongoing controversy over arrangements for the 310-mile frontier between Northern Ireland and the Republic, which forms the only land border between the UK and EU.
An unnamed terrorist, speaking to Channel 4 News, said: “The IRA is an army and as an army we are committed to armed struggle for political and social change in Ireland.
If they do start up, they will make those isis guys seem like boy scouts. |

The way things are with the current government I think if the troubles return Boris will just set NI adrift because he doesn’t have the imagination or appetite for difficult problems |

The current low levels of republican terrorist attacks are being contained. There are not the numbers or equipment to sustain a higher tempo of operations and intelligence is such that many planned attacks are neutralised before they ever get off the ground. It’s pretty much impossible for the troubles as we knew it to return due to many factors; one being it would never have the support of the non combatants in the communities in which the terrorists operate. Not that it is the land of milk and honey but NI is chalk and cheese a place to what it was 20 years ago. And the main reason IRA /Sinn Fein went down the road of politics was that they knew they could never bomb and murder their way to a united ireland. A policy which is working as a united ireland is much much more a possibility than it was 30 years ago |

Depends what Westminster tries to do.
Any terrorist organisation on nationalist/republican side was
only ever as a reaction of its treatment by Westminster policy.
If You treat citizens of your parliamentary constituencies
with such disdain , they will react.
In other words, The IRA would not exist, if it wasnt for the
UK govt involvementin Any part of Ireland . |
