" Stock market changes are short term and based on sentiment. The rise is based on an expectation that there will be no corporation tax increases. The trading relationship between the UK and the EU is certain for one more year. When the TRANSITION bill is passed we will be in a period of uncertainty again. So another year to "get back on tracK" unless it is "certain" that we have no comprehensive agreement, then we have several more years of uncertainty until we negotiate other trade deals and trade on WTO terms which are yet to be negotiated but cannot be arbitrated without the organisation functioning. Explain what I have written that is not true

"Most of us voted Tory. So are you rich yet? If not you weren't invited to the party... The collective wealth of the UK’s 16 billionaires increased by £2.1bn on Friday, according to the Bloomberg billionaires index, as the share prices of companies they controlled soared. https://www.theguardian.com/business/2019/dec/13/super-rich-family-buy-65m-house-to-celebrate-johnsons-victory THAT'S what it's about. If you think it's going to trickle down to us it hasn't, it won't, it never will. " I'll not be paying as much tax as I might have been under a government that would have increased public spending. That's not necessarily a good thing.

Only because the super wealthy is superwealthier. The 90% are the same or poorer. So is everyone in the UK £4 richer than they were on Thursday? Because you can bet your bottom dollar that Boris will be bragging how he's bolstered the economy.

"Trickle down economics is another of the many fantasies of neo liberalism. " It used to work that way. Not any more. Why aren't we celebrating making unbelievably rich people even richer at our expense while we struggle to get by? We are the 5th richest country in terms of wealth. We are rolling in money

I'm talking a combined net worth of trillions. They are not people you will ever meet unless you hang out in Monte Carlo. They are the one and only reason why there is poverty in a country that is so rich. They are the driving force behind child poverty, zero hours contracts etc etc etc. Just about every evil in a society where the average man should be well off. How did they get there? We put them there. Why do they stay there? Because we read the rags that they own and believe the obviously fake news like it was gospel. As if the billionares who own those newspapers aren't threatened at all by Corbyn. You will have to excuse me finding the irony of the the poor (because by comparison we are all dirt poor) staunchly defending the super rich. It would be hilarious if it weren't so tragic.

A female Republican who is holding up the violence against women act in America. A large percentage of women in America who are killed by gun violence are shot by their spouses. They are trying to stop this gun violence but they can't because the NRA has every Republican bought and paid for. Its big money vs innocent people being gunned down. Big money is winning. Is that good?

"I doubt very much that corbyn or his friends would deny themselves extra money. They aren't the poor, twig eating flat cap wearing socialist that they would pretend to be.they are motivated by greed and self interest just like everybody else. I don't personally defend the super rich. But at the same time, many of these people got there through their own hard work and innovation. If they provide jobs, try and do the right thing, and fund charitable causes I see nothing wrong with them existing. If I don't like it, I can always personally work harder and try and become richer. Except. It's not actually important. So I don't care to work harder. I have enough money and don't need more of it. What's more important is to be happy and to have lived a good life. And you can do that in almost any income bracket. There is always going to be someone with more or less money than you. The focus in money is misguided. Money isnt actually that important. There's not a single man alive that in his death bed said that he wished he had a bigger house. The actual real regrets of people at the end of their life are things like 'I wish a laughed more" and "I wish I hadn't worked so hard" and "I wish I had lived the life I wanted not the life people expected".. Yes there are a lot of people on their death beds who wish they had lived more, laughed more, except they were working two jobs because they needed to work two jobs to get by because they didn't get paid a fair wage. Not because their super rich employers couldn't afford to pay them better, but because those super rich with billions, literally billions in bank, want more.

No. The founder of amazon, Facebook,Google, Microsoft and apple would not be referred to as poor by the mysterious super rich. Neither would Lord sugar who started off with a single van. But I can also see first had how it’s far deeper than simply some people getting paid off stopping this. " I challenge you to watch this from beginning to end. https://youtu.be/X5FdE6k8UaQ

Then you have the dividend tax brackets who have a 25% step change for those earning roughly 45k to 50k but a less than 6% step to 150k and up. And NO higher bracket for more than 150k! How can this be anything other than a system skewed towards the super rich at the expense of the higher income earner?

I never said that 100k income was rich. Merely comfortable. I was just responding to your point about tax thresholds. I don't disagree with your point but if you will forgive me, I feel its wishful thinking. Human nature being what is is, people will avoid some government taking their wealth. During the seventies when Labour introduced their 90 percent tax, rich people left the country in droves. If I had a billion pounds I would certainly leave myself. I'm not altruistic enough. I agree the taxation system could be better balanced. I personally believe that non residents should be barred from owning property and that there should be restrictions on how many properties can be owned by a single person to help deflate the housing bubble. I guess the problem is that rubbing a country with lots of conflicting interests is very hard. Its alright for us to pontificate about what should happen but every silver lining has its own cloud.

I think the poster is saying that so long as people don't break the law, what they do with their money is their business and that we aren't in a position to judge morality.. I guess the problem is that rubbing a country with lots of conflicting interests is very hard. Its alright for us to pontificate about what should happen but every silver lining has its own cloud." Thanks for making a really good point and backing it up with a solid argument. It makes a refreshing change from being told I'm stupid as a couter argument. This is great. Yes I agree with you wholeheartedly. In fact I'll go further and say if you started closing some loopholes, they would make new ones. I guess there is a balance between getting their fair share of taxes and still making it worth their while at the same time. The same argument is currently being made in the states where 87% of wealth is IN the states but only 2% is in the Cayman islands.

Anyone? Who knows? I get a headache trying to read that sort of stuff. If people can't be bothered to construct a sentence, why should I bother with what they say? I think the poster is saying that so long as people don't break the law, what they do with their money is their business and that we aren't in a position to judge morality.. But I could be wrong - it was kinda hard to decipher. " Thanks for deciphering. If you can't translate my reply into gobbeldygook then please reply to our poster that these people do not have to break the law because they own the politicians who make the laws that favour them. This is not my wild conspiracy theory it's general consensus. I shall provide you with a very simple example. There are villages in Wales where the residents are complaining about business owners driving up house prices. Why is that? Because they buy a cheap house in Wales, never live in it, but live in an expensive apartment in London which is their 'office' but is a tax write off. They haven't broken any laws so they are (according to your theory) doing nothing wrong.

Philip Green only held his hand up and then dipped it in his pocket because he was publicly vilified and threatened with losing his peerage. I doubt very much that he felt the shame of what he had done. Was he breaking the law or just sailing close to it? Its not about hating, its about fairness and honesty. The tax system is fucked, and failed attempts to restructure it like IR35 are just chipping away at the middle ground without tackling the destabilising effects of the widening inequality of peoples incomes.

"All the above is true. If I lived in the dales or in Wales I would be very upset if my community was taken over by holiday homes. That's why I do happen to feel that there shoukd be so control over the uk property market to stop people using it as a vehicle for investment. One way might be to mandate that you may only buy a property to actually live in, and limit corporate ownership. Yes there are lots of ways that you can be creative once you have plenty of money. The more you have, the easier it becomes. Don't you feel though that the real issue isn't really the fault of politics or politicians but rather the built in greed, dishonesty and selfishness of the human animal? In other words - we can scarcely have the perfect world when it's filled with imperfect people... " I think one of man's strongest instincts is one of survival. Our need to horde when we already have enough is built in. I grew up friends with a wealthy family and attended a private school. In my class were the children of wealthy individuals and I am not exaggerating one day the headmistress of the school commented that they could not get the richest kids parents to pay for the cake raffle tickets he had bought. I remember the day the same kid's school case fell apart and we fell about laughing because his dad owned the factory it was made in. Bottom line the second richest man in the world still feels he needs more money. I feel no malice to those who corrupt politicians any more than a scorpion who stings the turtle. It's what they do. I feel sorry for the brainwashed who vote for those corrupt politicians. I feel bad that the truth has to compete with fake news. I feel bad that those same rich industrialists have bought scientists to provide false data that is being used for climate change denial.

I'll not be paying as much tax as I might have been under a government that would have increased public spending. That's not necessarily a good thing." Yeah grasp onto your riches whilst people and public services are destroyed. The top 5% would only have paid £250pa extra in tax. About £20 a month - for people raking in about £5750 a month. Greedy fucking bastards. Careful not to trip over the homeless on your way to that swanky restaurant.

Well in your first point thank you for reminding us what NRA stands for. But you might want to do some reading up on that one. On the point of the second amendment mantra. The tower attack actually highlights that there were two knife wound fatalities compared to much higher compable fatalities in the states where the perpetrator was armed with a firearm. If this has been a gun incident, taking him down with a fire extinguisher and narwhal tusk would have resulted in two more fatalities. And lastly gun control does not mean taking everyones firearms. It involves trying to make sure that firearms don't end up in the wrong hands.

Some people need a time machine so they can go back to 1939. Fortunately they are in a minority and don't often raise their heads and get shouted down when they do. I recently had one such person who told me to 'go back to my own country' which is also the UK. He then took the unwise path of physical violence which did not end well for him. The spitefulness that is present is truly a great representation of this Country, as it is today. But no. Deny it. And live in your bubble ( that’s aimed at anyone, not you personally) Scarlett. You've made an excellent point. There are people out there on the breadline whose only hope (rightly or wrongly) was Jeremy Corbyn. To laugh in their faces while they see their futures crushed, is just cruel. These are your fellow Britons but you treat them like sworn enemies. There is more compassion on here for Billionaires than there is for people who don't know where to get money for their children's clothes. It's shameful. It's sad. That's a good point. I surely have more personal compassion for the needy than the billionaire. I personally believe in a fairer society. But there has to be some inequality otherwise there's no motivation to excel. Why should a man study for a decade and then work in a high stress job but only receive much the same reward as someone who works an easy undemanding job? When it came down to it, I just couldn't bring myself to support the loony left embodied in Corbyn. I didn't like the man and I thought the manifesto was an economic disaster. I truly wish thst Labour had just gone a bit less nuts this time and come up with a manifesto that was more acceptable to more people.. To enact change, evolutionary change is needed. Those people will have to just get on with it then. Can’t moan about it if you’re not prepared make steps towards change. Seems it’s easier to chastise someone than actually think, you know what, we have the power here to change things. Because we do. But it’s all too scary. And I can understand that but for how long? Most of our leaders are just polularist figure heads and get told what to do by their financial backers. I don't think this was the case with the Kennedys and that's why they 'changed the vote the old fashioned way'. These days anyone who threatens the profits of big money go through character assassination rather than Kennedy style shootings. The public have shown an easy maleability when it comes to propaganda. People want to believe the worst so they just lap it up. Fake news is nothing new. Technology has just helped it along.

"This is the core of the toxicity of the left ... the green eyed monster .. Well youll be alright over in Miami because nobody wants your money over there do they....oh but then again there are a lot of guns about and quite a lot of hungry people....just saying I don’t need to go there any more the best side won over here. I don’t need to go to Miami for guns either I’ve got plenty overs here ... just with better safety and scrutiny. Do you know who Joni Ernst is? A female Republican who is holding up the violence against women act in America. A large percentage of women in America who are killed by gun violence are shot by their spouses. They are trying to stop this gun violence but they can't because the NRA has every Republican bought and paid for. Its big money vs innocent people being gunned down. Big money is winning. Is that good? Were they shot with hand guns or rifles? I'd bet hand guns. NRA is the national rifle association. They have a right to bear arms,it's in the constitution. Taking away guns now would simply empower criminals. "I don't want to die for the want of the ability to fight back". You will never outlaw guns in the USA . thanks Think of this. You seem to be fine having a go at the USA but what about this? On a bridge in London last month a convicted terrorist killed two people as he was released early. At the same time a convicted killer fought with this same terrorist on the same bridge at the same time. It would never have happened in the USA because both would have been incarcerated in a cell 10 by 8 in a jail miles from innocent people. London, one if the most dangerous cities in the world." https://youtu.be/TtfljFP7p2w Houston's police chief Art Acevedo criticised politicians for not standing up to the National Rifle Association after the the fatal shooting of an officer. 'The NRA doesn't like the fact that we want to take firearms out of the hands of boyfriends that abuse their girlfriends. And who killed our sergeant? A boyfriend abusing his girlfriend,' Acevedo said Two HANDGUNS.... not rifles. HANDGUNS. NRA to blame says a police chief who clearly shares my ignorance.

"I've lived in the USA and its a very polarised debate. I used to enjoy the knowledge that I could own a gun and use it. As a result, burglary is very rare because the number one risk is getting shot by the homeowner. I knew people who never even kockrd their door. You also don't get the same vandalism and yobbish behavior. In the minus side there's a heck of a lot more shootings. In many states you can buy guns in Walmart with a drivers license. I always felt that a licensing system would be a good idea to help stop the crazies owning guns but then you run into problems with the constitution and the gun movement has a very powerful lobby in Washington. Its not a problem that's easy to solve. For myself in the UK given a choice, I wish the uk was a bit less nannyish on guns. I personally feel the police should carry guns and take less shit from d*unken mongs and I would also support homeowners shooting burglars no problem. " I'm not opposed to gun ownership per se. I'm opposed to the lack of gun legislation. I'm opposed to the NRA making huge contributions to politicians to oppose gun control legislation. Yes it's great to have a gun in your house when there's an armed burglar in your house. Do you need a fully automatic machine gun with boxes of ammo? Probably not. How many firearms do you need to defend your home? Should people with mental illness be sold firearms? Etc etc

The sensible shake up in self defence laws is a good thing. I don’t see the need to have military grade firearms or handguns in civilian hands. And that’s coming from someone who would buy them if he they were able to.

I don't need a gun to protect my home from a burglar and if I was unlucky enough to have to confront one in my home, I'd rather do it in the knowledge that neither of us are going to be shot. Most burglars nick your stuff when you're out, they don't like confrontation. Our police do just fine with our nannyish ways, we have specialist firearms units who do a wonderful job, as seen recently, and gun carrying police in necessary places. We don't need to shoot d*unken 'mongs' as you put it, we have intelligent policing and a fantastic criminal justice system.

Our police do just fine with our nannyish ways, we have specialist firearms units who do a wonderful job, as seen recently, and gun carrying police in necessary places. We don't need to shoot d*unken 'mongs' as you put it, we have intelligent policing and a fantastic criminal justice system. " Boom!

I'm not opposed to gun ownership per se. Etc etc " Absolutely. But to be fair there are only a couple of states where you are allowed machine guns and even semi automatic rifles are banned in many states. I would tend to agree though. You don't need military grade weapons and gun control to stop them falling into the hands of crazies is totally sensible. I would even suggest that handguns aren't great becayse they are easily concealed whereas a shotgun is just fine for home defense.

Some control is a good thing to stop concealed weapons on the streets and to stop crazies doing mass shootings. However, your assertion that you would never, ever shoot a loaded gun at someone is naive and shows that you've never actually been in a life threatening situation. I seriously suggest that if you have a gun within reach and you ever have an armed man in front of you about do your family harm that you abandon your principles and use it. However if your principles are too strong then at least you may write something about high mindedness on the tombstones.

Or my experience. You sound like you should be writing a Hollywood screenplay with your exaggerated facts. Knife crime is up 4%. Homicide by knife is down 14%. Fraud is up 15%. How many freaking war zones have you seen in the UK? I live in London, work in London, Glasgow, Manchester, Leeds and a few others. Yet to see a 'freaking war zone' . A&E's are pushed to the limit but not by 'freaking war zones'. Every city centre turned into a freaking war zone every night? Quite frankly, it is you who is out of your mind. I'd love you to justify that statement. Too much Sky Movies Action by the sounds of it. Burglaries are down 7%. Your 'literally hundred of thousands in many counties' is utter bollocks. 450,000 across the UK is a bit more accurate. And. It's not a new thing. We've been getting burgled for centuries. Owning a gun won't change it. Criminal Justice System. You clearly don't understand what this is.

Yeah I mis-remembered the statistics it's not hundreds of thousands but Its still very high. Indeed if we consider violent crime in 2019 in Berkshire for example it was the highest since records began. https://www.getreading.co.uk/news/reading-berkshire-news/violent-crime-soars-highest-ever-16187537 Knife crime has also reached an all time high. However, you think the criminal justice system is great. Fair enough. We will have to agree to disagree on that one. I personally would prefer to see criminals punished more severely and I would prefer to see less crime but you are free to prefer the opposite.

" These things go in cycles but they are always with us - the present peak in knife crime is directly attributable to 20000 less police officers over the last nine years meaning drugs are far more prolific countrywide, and the closure of youth clubs that helped to mentor children away from gang culture that is pervasive in inner cities. A high proportion of petty burglary is due to drug habits and this is fuelled by overcrowding in prisons which leads to them becoming schools for crime instead of punishment. The instant knee jerk reaction is always that lock em up and throw away the key is the solution but it doesn’t work anywhere. The USA has enormous numbers of criminals locked away, many for minor crimes and there is an argument that some of this is because its easier to do that there then here - anyone might wonder if theres a profit motive involved?

"When did I say I wanted to see more crime? As I said before, you clearly don't know what the Criminal Justice System is, or does. What do you mean by 'mongs'? " 'clearly'? Interesting. I suggest your clarity is clouded by your own viewpoint rather than any statement of mine. A 'mong' is a term to describe the usual type that can be seen glassing another person in the face and vomiting in the gutter after, the kind of commonplace behaviour found across the uk particularly on Friday and Saturday evenings. The term 'war zone" is not to be taken literally. I note on your profile that you mention you have worked in different locations. So have I. Indeed considerably more than the locations you mention as part of my own tenure in the square mile that you also mention. This means I am quite comfortable in my belief that British towns are amongst the most unpleasant that I have ever encountered on a Saturday night, when fights erupt around you, people vomit in the street and the yobs wander around shouting football songs and smashing things. This is what I mean by 'war zone" and it translates to a massive problem for A&E and the police which deal predominantly with alcohol related violence during those times. It is also not something I ever encounter in dozens of cities all over the planet. Now. I realize that this is actually a separate issue from the gun legislation that was being discussed but it certainly is relevant to law and order and the criminal justice system. I suggest to you that if the system that you so admire was more effective, that there would be fewer repeat offences (when the antisocial behavior leads to an arrest) and less of this type of behavior overall. Likewise, figures show knife crime at a record high for the year 2018-2019 according to the national statistics Office so I am sure that you would agree that this is a problem. Your initial disagreement with me was that guns are not required. I can see the point - and there is an argument to suggest that more guns in circulation equates to more criminals having them. However, even now, there is a lively trade in the criminal underworld modifying antique weapons and making ammunition and its possible to buy production weapons on the black market. Therefore the bad guys have guns anyways. Permitting the police and the homeowner to defend themselves would surely just redress the balance. Since homeowners are allowed to own guns anyways (I own several shotguns) there is unlikely to be an increase in the weapons in circulation (if the legislation was carefully thought out). All that it would mean is that next time I am confronted with an armed intruder, I am able to hold him at gunpoint until the police arrive rather than be overly concerned that I might somehow be infringing his civil rights.

" ... The USA has enormous numbers of criminals locked away, many for minor crimes and there is an argument that some of this is because its easier to do that there then here - anyone might wonder if theres a profit motive involved? " These are all good points and I agree with many of them. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a profit motive since in my experience it creeps into everything. Its also valid to take the USA as an example and claim that locking people up clearly doesn't solve the issue. That's why, although many people will not agree for all sorts of reasons, I personally believe the death penalty to be appropriate treatment for certain sorts of criminals. For example, an unrepentant serial killer of children who admits he is always going to be a danger is not a good candidate for rehabilitation or release. Frankly I feel it would benefit society more to execute such a person and make them a compulsory organ donor to boot, than to expend tax revenue incarcerating then for the remainnder of their life. There will be people of course that argue that executions have no place in a civilized society, but I do feel that this disregards the fact that for a society to be truly civilised, all the people in it must behave in a civilized manner..

I take the yapping poodle next door more seriously than you lot. I just find it very amusing to see Dunning Kruger in action. Waffle all you like boy you're still jealous of wealth. As for Corbyn being rich, exactly. A lefty hypocrite who'd be fine while we all went down the toilet. He'd only be a hypocrite if he called himself a Marxist. It's not his fault people like you regurgitate the garbage the Sun and Daily Mail feed you." He wouldn't. There are elements of Marxism in lots of things. The idea of the state owning anything infrastructure wise stems from Marx. The idea of an NHS is fundamentally Marxist. Marx talked a lot about equality for women.... He would be a hypocrite if he called himself a communist (to an extent). He did neither of those things though. Re: envy. Those that call the left the "politics of envy" don't actually understand what envy means. Envy is wanting what someone else has got, so Envy would be trying to accumulate more wealth for yourself than a billionaire.

Is that jealousy I smell? Yeah so they're rich. So what? The election wasn't about that it was about stopping a Marxist lunatic from destroying our country with his failed ideology. You have more money than Jeremy Corbyn? He's the richest Marxist I've ever come across. Why do people on here who come across opinions different to their own assume the other person is wound up? I take the yapping poodle next door more seriously than you lot. I just find it very amusing to see Dunning Kruger in action. Waffle all you like boy you're still jealous of wealth. As for Corbyn being rich, exactly. A lefty hypocrite who'd be fine while we all went down the toilet. He'd only be a hypocrite if he called himself a Marxist. It's not his fault people like you regurgitate the garbage the Sun and Daily Mail feed you. He wouldn't. Envy is wanting what someone else has got, so Envy would be trying to accumulate more wealth for yourself than a billionaire." Nice posting I listened to a commentary today which I may commit to memory I thought it was so powerful. Basically it said that whenever anyone these comes and threatens to upset the apple cart, be it Greta Thunberg, Jeremy Corbyn, anyone who threatens big money.... and they throw the kitchen sink at them, the press turns on them, the fake news starts etc etc. It is up to us as individuals to wake up to what's going and back these people up.

" Your statement. So so wrong on so many levels. And a little bit insane actually. This is what we have to content with. Can’t you go back to the US? Pretty please What's wrong with a person wanting to defend their home and family? If you're confronted by an armed intruder in the night what are you going to use - harsh language? You sound like a sheltered Liberal. Well. If you've actually been confronted in your home by a burglar, like I have, perhaps you might favour having a weapon rather than needing a freaking hug. How do you know I’ve never been burgled? Gun laws in the US are insane. Fact. Only brought upon themselves. Fact. I’d never, ever, in a million years, hold a gun, load it and shoot someone. If that is sheltered liberal way of thinking then my opinion/personal nature is wasted here. I’ve only ever shot 2 people. Both lived....You should only ever shoot to kill but they caught me on an off day . Laugh. I used to have a sign on my gate. 'if anything in this house is worth your life, be my guest'. I knew a guy who shot an armed intruder climbing into his house. Police took the body away. Case closed. A well known sports star in a country I lived in woke up to hear his car being pushed down the road. He ran outside to see that the person was in the car. Using the silhouette presented by the street light put a perfect shot through the persons head. It turned out to be his own daughter who thought she would sneak out to visit her boyfriend. That was a sad case in South Africa if I remember right. I'm not suggesting thag people shoot anyone in defense of property. However I do find a weapon useful for self defense against an armed assailant. Its a completely different situation, so, whilst the case is sad and cautionary, it in no way persuades me to put away my shotgun and use harsh language if I'm confronted in the middle of the night. " His name is Vleis (meaning meat) Visage. He was lock for the Natal Sharks team in their hey day. Well defense of property is defendable. If people can just walk ip and take everything you have it's just as bad. In South Africa if someone steals your car and you have no way to get to work you are screwed. A shotgun is a good weapon. A lot of people don't realise this but a bullet hitting a solid wall bounces like a rubber ball. You never see it in the movies.

You reckon that you'd have time to get the keys to your gun safe, find the right one for the top/bottom lock, open the cabinet, get your shells from their separate, locked store all in time to confront a burglar. I have guns and I reckon my big Maglite would be far more useful in a break-in." My father always claimed a gun in the safe was no good at all. He slept with a 9mm Browning next to his bed. Cocked safety off and one in the spout.

Yes a 12g shotgun is a favourite for home defense in the states and I still use one. I use 000 buck cartridges which have 8 pellets per cartridge. Each pellet has about the same energy as a 9mm handgun round. Less danger of going right through your target and through the drywall and into the room behind and definitely enough stopping power to seriously ruin any toerags day.

" Rule 1when pulling the trigger; always identify the target , and only pull the trigger if that person is a threat to you. Meaning don’t shoot people stealing your car as they drive off or people making off with your favourite piece of lladro.

Except there is no such thing as a Walter 7mm. I know you like to sound as if you know what you are talking about but unfortunately more often than not, that’s not the case. The 2 most popular ammo sizes were 7.65 and 9 mm. Personally I always found the 7.65 under powered and only kept it as a back up weapon if all else failed. Someone shot me with a Walther once and the round didn’t penetrate the heavy coat I was wearing. Only really useful at ranges of about 5m in terms of accuracy and stopping power ( in combat situations; on the range is different).

Cocked safety off and one in the spout. Completely illegal here to not keep guns in a locked safe though and if you have rifles, the ammo should be in a separate (also locked) safe. I know. He also carried it everywhere he went in a shoulder holster. Different time different circumstanced. I also carried a side arm. 7mm Walther. I was 8 years old. Only really useful at ranges of about 5m in terms of accuracy and stopping power ( in combat situations; on the range is different)." Really? Most people aren't pedantic. They usually refer to 7mm, 9mm etc without being specific on the caliber sizes. My dad was a gunsmith so by the time I was years old I could identify any post WWII weapon. I have scars behind my ears from using .22 empties as earplugs when I was 4. The carbon infected my mastoids which needed to be removed. The reason I carried the 7mm Walther was in case we were ambushed and I was the lone survivor. The gun was not to shoot the terrorists. It was to blow my own brains out so as not to be tortured. My best friend (8) and younger sister (5) were tortured to death by terrorists. So yes by the age of 8 I had been instructed on the most efficient way to blow your my brains out. I have also had specialist military training which included weapons training. So you can tell me I don't know what I'm talking about, my estimation of you couldn't get any lower so please carry on.

" Its a fair argument. To me a gun in the gun safe is almost (note I'm say amost) the same as no gun at all. In South Africa most homeowners own firearms. Yet the suburb I lived in (of just a few thousand people) experienced over 50 breakins a night. Do you know what's the first thing they ask you? Where's your gun. Criminals going after guns is actually their prime motive for breaking in. The number of police officers killed in South Africa is staggering. It's BECAUSE they own firearms. The thing is that unless you carry your gun around with you all the time (like my dad did) or have it next to you at your bedside you probably won't have it to hand when you need it. When you wake up to find someone standing at the end of your bed, having a gun in the gunsafe is irrelevant. Guns do, however, come out when people get d*unk (guns and alcohol don't mix btw) and when spouses get angry with each other. Or in the case in Houston when the police officer arrives to a domestic violence complaint.

" Don't forget though you already mentioned that you had a gate fitted and various defensive measures activated. The purpose of all these is to remove the surprise factor - to allow you to call the cops and retrieve the weapon. In my case, for example, I had a locked armored door in the entrance to the second floor sleeping wing. Phones, gun safe, cctv, power and alarm control were in that area. In the event of an intruder I could comfortably watch them on cctv whilst waiting for the cops to arrive and would have ample time to retrieve and load the weapon. In the event that the the bad guys try and break through then I still have the gun as a last line of defense. I think it really depends on how your home is arranged.

" My philosophy is that if a burglar alarm picks up someone in your house it's already too late. The barricade was to buy time for an armed response company to get there. I would trigger the alarm and time their response. If you are a burglar and you set off an alarm then the chances are you are going to stop breaking in. My house had signs all around saying that I was connected to an armed response company. I'm sure you are a responsible gun owner and it sounds like you are. But some people aren't. They leave their guns lying around in front of kids etc. Then there is also things like drugs, alcohol and mental instability. Some people should be anywhere near a gun. I'll give you an example. A guy woke up one day in a prison cell wondering how he got there. He found out that he had accidentally taken Zolpidem and then gone drinking. He went on a shooting rampage and shot 4 people. He can't remember any of it and is a nice guy otherwise.

"It's more than just currency speculation. Companies with the right exposures are making billions, their sales are in different currency, the profits go up, their costs go down etc etc etc. All of this means, you will have a job, you will work harder, your quality of life will stagnate, and your wages will be capped, and the people who own the companies will make out like bandits." Exactly. At some stage trickle down economics stopped working. But how do we change things?

Really? The hole is getting bigger Walt. There is no 7mm Walther , Walt. Keep posting ..... you are the funniest thing on here by a long long way. Terrorists are so naughty aren’t they. Whatever. Your opinion means nothing to me. Ok Walt " oloo
