I think the Union with Scotland is only about 300 years old to be fair. Wales had a referendum on leaving but decided to stay.

I think it was a semi re-run of the referendum. I think there were a lot of votes 'lent' to the Conservatives just for this parliament in order for the whole Brexit thing to be finalised. I could go on and on (and on) but in summary the political classes forgot to listen to their constituents, and got bitten on the arse. Corbyn was an element sure , but I do believe Brexit is the main explanation. |

Several members of the Labour front bench fucked it for them. I totally agree that failing to take a stance on Brexit was a massive mistake for them, with the disgruntlement of the nation as a whole, who want some sort of resolution. Just once. Politicians on all sides have, however, for the last couple of years confused their personal interests with doing their job.
A lot of the "lent" seats may be just that. If the conservatives do not deliver, the rebound at the next election could be horrific for them.
It will be interesting to see if Farage et al can maintain public interest or if they will fade away. |

He is. He very much is, but him being a cunt doesn't make Boris any less of one either.
Labour lost due to the combination of the dislike of Corbyn, and Brexit. There is a reason everytime Boris opened his mouth the only thing that came out was "get Brexit done" because he knew that would sway a large majority of the Brexit votes his way. He didn't have anything else going in his favour at all. It would not have been a landslide if it were not for those 2 things together.
Very few conservatives votes will have been for their policies as a whole. The majority will have been "fuck Corbyn" or "get Brexit done"
This entire election was a reality TV popularity contest.

Corbyn deserved what he got, simple as, he was weak, the manifesto was good in some parts, absolutely terrible in others.
He was too soft on boris and boris took advantage of it.
It took him ages to deal with anti semitism,
His Patriotism was called into question, and that put people off.
He tried to settle brexit with a another referendum on the final say, but like the EU elections he stood in the middle of the road and was destined to be knocked over.
His allies are left wing extremists, who are so mired in the past, that they forgot the current concerns of people in the north and the midlands.
I am saying he has failed spectacularly, the quicker he goes the quicker labours fortunes will turn. |

Corbyn and Labour were basically fucked the minute they agreed to a General Election before Brexit had played out, they had a decent control over parliament and could have played it any way they wanted but chose a GE. Proved to be a really bad choice. |

Labour lost - and rightly so - because they turned their backs on the very people they were formed to represent.
They learned nothing from their many failures in Scotland, from 2007 onwards - because they know that Scots voters never determine the outcome of a UK GE. So, losing our votes didn't matter to them.
So, moving on to more recent events; as before, in Scotland, they now took their voters in the North of England and the Midlands for granted and - even worse - treated their decision to leave the EU with thinly veiled contempt.
They represent hardly anyone in Scotland and now, fewer people in England than they have in decades; and it's entirely their own fault.
I'm not happy with the result but the Tories, for all their many flaws, were listening to the English voters - not telling them they were mistaken and irrelevant.
If you turn your back on people and don't listen to them, they won't vote for you. Labour just never learned that lesson. Not from Scotland. Not from the Democrats in the USA.
If they haven't learned from Thursday night, they never will.
P.S. Corbyn as their leader just made everything else worse. |

They weren't listening the the English voters. They told the English voters what the wanted (to leave the EU) and then pretended to be doing it for them even though the evidence is that those pro-leave areas are going to be the hardest hit.
They've got their majority to whatever they want now. Watch them screw those pro-leave Labour voters now along with many others. |

The principle policy of the party with most seats was to leave the EU on the basis of the deal negotiated. That is the mandate to leave reinforcing the 2016 result.
Remain cause accept 2nd ref is dead. The new movement needs to be called rejoin and be set up in about 15 years time. |
