Tyneside doomed because of GE voting ?

Yesterday, unlike large lumps of the Country Tyneside voted Labour as usual.
So is it now doomed to be ignored for investment and jobs for the next five years ?
Boris went out of his way to thank traditional Labour voters for voting Conservative. But for him to repeat his victory in the next Election, probably in five years, he has to keep those "new" Tory voters sweet.
Which means, I think, that those swing seats will get the Lions share of all new jobs and investment, certainly in the run up to the next GE. After all, the voters in those seats have now discovered that they CAN vote Tory without a big lightning bolt from the sky hitting them.
So WHY would the Tories want to plough any money into the areas which voted Labour ? They just don't need to !!
Even if Labour finds a great new Leader, Jess Phillips perhaps, that Leader would be concentrating on winning back the seats that went Tory, so again, traditional Labour seats would be ignored.

You're most probably right but to ignore Labour constituencies will only harden their view point unless the lack of investment goes so low they may be forced to vote Tory next time round, which is what Boris's plan may well be lol  |

For a long time, Governments have been totally concerned with winning in marginal seats and ignored "safe" seats of their own or seats they can't possibly win. No change there.
Except, there are now so many MORE marginals that the money to look after (bribe) the marginals will be spread more thinly and hence even less for the safe seats. |

let me answer those is chunks...
1) never suggested there would be soldiers on the streets....
2) do i think that Nissan will completely pack up and leave?... no!
do i think that Nissan will be the size it is now?...... no!
it will get to the stage where in business if it cheaper with any tariffs to build something elsewhere they will...
this conservative govt now have 12 months before the transition period runs out.... if they think they will get some sort of FTA in place by them, I think you are nuts.... |

Time will tell on how it pans but many eu countries re having economic problems
their leaders will now have to make a judgement on whether they play hardball and cause more pain to their electors or are sensible and agree a deal that involves no tariffs, looking at France now and the issues Germany had with unrestricted immigration I think they will opt for their own political future and do a good deal for both sides, they will worry that a trade deal between the UK and the USA will further weaken eu economies if we start buying more US made goods |

I also don’t think Nissan will be the size it is now but I don’t think it will be to do with brexit the down size in deisil cars asnt helped but then again electric cars are the future so ya never know and the soldiers thing I’m not sure if you said they be on the streets but you did hint at it along with others also claiming planes grounded medicine running out food shortages there was a lot of bull talked last yr by ppl on here and still the world turns lol |

All car makers are shedding jobs bmw 10,000 audi 9,000 and thats in germany so really not that hard to predict _abio. |

You obviously have no knowledge of the steel works in Redcar and what went on there. Why should the government step in to save a private Thai company that had made huge losses from day 1 of starting operations and had caused many of its local suppliers acute financial difficulties by not paying their bills. I’m sure many smaller suppliers to SSI went bust due to the fact they didn’t get paid. And before you respond, I DO Know what I’m talking about. I was one of the suppliers that realised the severity of the situation at an early stage and was able to recover the tens of thousands of pounds that SSI owed my company, albeit via a protracted legal fight. I was one of the lucky ones. |

You obviously have no knowledge of the steel works in Redcar and what went on there. Why should the government step in to save a private Thai company that had made huge losses from day 1 of starting operations and had caused many of its local suppliers acute financial difficulties by not paying their bills. I’m sure many smaller suppliers to SSI went bust due to the fact they didn’t get paid. And before you respond, I DO Know what I’m talking about. Simple question is why should any of the Japanese owned car makers have a plant in the UK? They came because we were the gateway to Europe, the Tories gave them lots of incentives, and we as a nation had lower costs than Europe! The Honda closure will probably be copied by Toyota, Nissan and JLR have already opened a big factory in Slovakia. Johnson will get the WA ratified by 31st January, and to some extent, this gives a lot of certainty, but, if he thinks that he will get a free trade deal agreed, implemented in 11 months, which has never been done before, we will soon find out! Foreign investment will sit on the fence for another 12 months! |

It's a close run thing as to who actually shut more, depends which way you read it.
Labour made them private (shock labour making things private, just like parts of the nhs too) so say they didn't ahut them, the owners did.
But it's all pointless talking about somwthing like that.
People see what they want to see, read what they want to rear and ignore what dosnt suit their viewpoint.

Firstly the Germans closed most of theirs around the same time or shortly afterwards. Can you blame that on the Tory party? Then again I'm sure some on here would try. LOL.
Secondly, nowadays everybody is in a hurry to go green. So how would coal mines fit in to that agenda?
The writing was on the wall for coal long before the '84 strike. The only thing the strike achieved was to hurry it along a bit, and Scargill was just as much (if not more) to blame than the government.

Yep - the BBC inserted subliminal images during election debates. If you play them back frame by frame you can just catch them. That and the daily express cryptic crossword had phrases in which solvers were powerless to resist. Both itv and the BBC digitally altered all images of Corbyn’s glasses to look lopsided as well. Clever!. Labour despite having the bestest, only fully costed manifesto, we’re powerless to resist such tactics. To cap it all , Tony Blair took a £10 million bribe to say labour voters shouldn’t actually labour as they were all a bunch of Marxist , unapologetic twats. That was equally split between the mail and the express. That’s it in a nutshell . I’m in a period of reflection myself, wondering whether such heinous tactics were justified. Especially when I saw Corbyn bouncing babies on his knee. He really is a sweet old duffer isn’t he |

Yep - the BBC inserted subliminal images during election debates. If you play them back frame by frame you can just catch them. That and the daily express cryptic crossword had phrases in which solvers were powerless to resist. Both itv and the BBC digitally altered all images of Corbyn’s glasses to look lopsided as well. Clever!. Labour despite having the bestest, only fully costed manifesto, we’re powerless to resist such tactics. To cap it all , Tony Blair took a £10 million bribe to say labour voters shouldn’t actually labour as they were all a bunch of Marxist , unapologetic twats. That was equally split between the mail and the express. That’s it in a nutshell . I’m in a period of reflection myself, wondering whether such heinous tactics were justified. Especially when I saw Corbyn bouncing babies on his knee. He really is a sweet old duffer isn’t he"

Maybe it was because of what hundreds of former labour voters have said to media news crews, recorded and aired publicly ( so not fake news but their actual opinions). Maybe open your eyes and ears and listen to what people said why they voted the way they did. Do I really have to spell it out?.
