Somewhere between Newport and Cardiff

That's what Brexit is about. Those who instigated this mess weren't doing it for the greater good, and Boris himself used it to get into No10 for his own gain.

A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky, and stupid.

Those with money and power know this, and they know how to manipulate us into doing what THEY want.

"None of it will matter in 500 yrs. Just ride it out "

My nihilism is spiking heavily this week and as such I hope the human race is done in 500 years. A brief spark, a bright light that burned itself out far too quickly.

Then the universe can forget about us and carry on as it was.

George Carlin was right when he said "save the planet? The planet will be just fine it's humanity that's fucked"

I am available for children's parties btw...

"Yep, everyone who voted leave is dumb and manipulated "

I wouldnt consider myself dumb or manipulated by voting leave. Weighing up the pros and cons was easy. The EU expansion added and extra 20% of mainly low paid workers to the population, as a result of increased competition for low paid work, wages fell dramatically to that of the minimum wage being the only wage. Of course the wealthy and corporations made more profit. Successive Governments failed to tax these additional profits to keep pace with 20% extra pressure on public services like Policing the NHS and social housing. Ultimately those affected by the EU were mainly the poorest in society and voted to leave. I cant think of one thing that the EU system benefited working class people.

In the context of the few and the many, the many voted to give up their rights and convert them instead to the privilege of a few.

I'm talking about the right to live and work anywhere in the EU.

If this exit goes ahead, that right will become a privilege, reserved for the few with enough money to meet the other country's immigration criteria.

There was far to many lies about what brexit was going to be.

As far as im concerned the whole thing should be null and void because it was all based on lies.

If the UK leaves the EU, UK citizens lose that right.

Sure, you can ask permission.

You might be granted it if you can meet certain criteria.

Like a nest egg of £X and a minimum income of £Y.

You give me the impression of simply not understanding what you voted for.

The right - your right, my right - is being relinquished.

Or do you think it is only EU citizens who are losing the right to live and work here?

It works both ways - we are losing the right to live and work there.

While free movement in theory is good in reality it can and has caused big problems. What would be the impact of millions of the poorest people of the world moving to the UK, france or germany in search of a better life, or our you just upset because YOU cant move somewhere ?

Most countries control who can and cant enter for more than a shortish time, whats wrong with that? Maybe the citizens of other european countries dont want you there, no one has asked them have they, you complain you have lost the right to move what about THEIR rights not to have you, me or anyone move to THEIR country.

So we go back to a system where people that want to move have to provide a benefit to their new home, sounds reasonable to me, UK and EU citizens will still be able to visit, learn and in many cases do seasonal work just as now

Channel 4 went under cover to investigate racism in the Brexit party. What were they talking to people about? Economics? They weren't even talking about Europeans. It seems to me that leave voters had racial motives not economic ones.

I do a lot of my work in the science parks around Oxford. In one company I referred to the English born employees as the "token Englishmen". Most of the company was Greek, Polish, Lithuanian etc. All earning good salaries, no benefits, and the fruit of their labour bringing in hundreds of millions of pounds.

They "might" need a visa and then can still do this. Once the trade negotiations start, there may be visa free travel agreed. We will not become "fortress UK" with massive ramparts and walls to keep people out or stopping them leaving. Travel will continue, you might just have to get a bit of extra paper first.

How many of those who voted to leave have lived or worked abroad, not many of my generation did, its not about stopping people doing anything its about having the choice of who does and doesnt come here, I notice you didnt address my point about totally unrestricted movement or the rights of other countries citizens not to have US moving to their countries, just because you or I want to move abroad as "a right" what about their rights.

It is ironic that the ‘majority’ of the baby boomer generation voted to leave . They are the ones who have benefited the most from being in the EU, they are children of the people who lived through WW2 and this is the longest period in recent history where the UK hasn’t been involved in a major war. I can’t work our why they voted to leave as their children and grand children are the ones who want to remain. Maybe they did it to stay relevant, maybe they did it because they are selfish , maybe they did it because they are naive , maybe they can tell us why ?

In my time on fab I've spoken to a great deal of people who have spoken about living overseas for a few years. Many of the intend to retire overseas as many have. Of course those people will now be stranded by Brexit but who cares about them right.

Personally I am entitled to four passports, one by birth, one by naturalisation and two by heritage. I can practically live anywhere I choose.

Just remember this when you get old and no Englishman will change your adult diapers that there was once a Polish person who wasn't scared of hard work prepared to do it.

Do you know the name of the hero in the Tower terror attacks? Not the English guy who stood 10 feet back with a fire extinguisher, the guy who unarmed took on a knife wielding terrorist so that we who hate immigrants so much could escape. Nothing about him in the news. He has been honoured for his bravery.... in Poland. For us it's just and awkward embarrassment that the true hero is Polish.

So now you know how my kids voted and think.

I voted purely and simply because I dont want to be part of the US of europe, I dont want any of my kids or grandkids to have to fight in an EU army, unless we get a vote eu wide on it, if the vote goes against my wishes then fair enough, but I sincerely believe it would end in violence and misery, its just far too big and we have far too much divergance in culture and outlook for it to work, lets face it the Euro has only been here for a very short time and it lurches from problem to problem due to different countries fiscal issues and outlook. The EU has only moved in one direction since it was formed, how many times have any countries been asked if thats what they want? Of course if they give the wrong answer then they get told to vote again until they give the right answer

The EU army will never happen and if it did why would your children have to ‘fight ‘ in it?

I would rather be part of Europe than be part of The USA?

What is the EU direction and why is it a bad thing?

I don’t know how your children voted? Did they vote leave ? I do know the vast majority of the younger generation voted to remain and since the referendum that number will have increased?

Would it be fare that the last 75 years have been the most peaceful in European history ?

Do you have a clear and accurate prediction on how long the Brexit negotiations will take and when we will see the benefits of leaving the EU?

What would be the 5 most important laws that you would change that the EU are currently preventing ?

You're comparing all the media and propaganda resources of those who wish to orchestrate brexit. With individuals. It's not a good comparison.

I wouldn't call leavers dumb it stupid for voting leave. But the evidence suggests that they have been manipulated. Yeah.

Not that they represent all leavers, but you should see some of the nonsense they post on here. Completely bonkers.

Why would we try and manipulate you to vote remain? The referendum has been and gone . I would like to know the 3 most important reasons as why anyone voted to leave . I have always respected the result of the referendum as I thought we would be getting a ‘brilliant deal’ . Are you happy with the way things are going? Are you happy with The Boris deal? When do you think the Brexit negotiations will be finished? As a leave voter you must know the answer to these questions?

If you think the EU army will never happen you are in total denial, just look up guy verhofstadt on twitter, even you cant deny its coming.

conscription.

I dont want to be part of the US of A either.

If you cant see the continually drift to a superstate then you need to go to specsavers.

"

In my time on fab I've spoken to a great deal of people who have spoken about living overseas for a few years. Many of the intend to retire overseas as many have. Of course those people will now be stranded by Brexit but who cares about them right.

Personally I am entitled to four passports, one by birth, one by naturalisation and two by heritage. I can practically live anywhere I choose.

Just remember this when you get old and no Englishman will change your adult diapers that there was once a Polish person who wasn't scared of hard work prepared to do it.

So no british person can ever live or retire abroad now then? Are you for real? Still no response to my point about the rights of others then, still that about sums up lots of folk, its all about THEM and what THEY want

Why did you vote for Brexit? When your children and grand children are so against it? Will your children and grabs children benefit from leaving the EU? If so, how?

Of course if they give the wrong answer then they get told to vote again until they give the right answer"

We have a veto over any EU army so your fears are groundless

They can, if they have the money.

That's my point.

Every citizen has that right.

After Brexit, it will be a privilege for a few.

You seem to be arguing that the right to STOP foreign people entering this country is a fair trade for removing the rights of UK citizens.

Hmmmm . . . we give up our rights as citizens and hand it to the state instead.

How very odd.

Yes, people go there to work, to earn money to pay the rent etc.

That is their right (just as it is in the UK).

The only people in Europe who won't have that right soon will be UK citizens.

Yes, in future UK citizens will need to meet the immigration criteria of a country like Spain.

I have no idea what their immigration criteria is. But I imagine the more hostile the UK becomes towards foreign nationals moving here, the more hostile other countries will become towards UK nationals moving there.

Quid pro quo.

Citizens elsewhere in Europe will have no such barriers facing them, of course, because none of them is so daft as to chuck away their rights of free movement.

I'm fortunate enough to be able to go on holiday several times a year.

This year, I went to Valencia in February and Alicante in April.

After Brexit, I will be barred from doing that by the 90-day rule.

Because UK citizens will no longer have the right to visit freely.

A 90 tourist visa would allow you in and out as much as you like within that 90 day period. The only rules are that you cannot spend more than 90 days in a 180 day period. Also if you spend 183 days per calendar year there you would be required to register as a Spanish tax payer.

I don't know about the rest of Spain because GC seems to have it's own rules. But in GC I believe all you need is EU citizenship and €5000 in the bank.

Thanks.

It looks like I am going to have to read up on all the red tape that people voted to put in place where none currently exists.

I'll add it to my Brekshit to-do list.

Re Gran Canaria, I know it has autonomy in terms of federal taxation etc - a freeport in EU terms.

Might the rules there be different from mainland Spain?

"No.

My understanding is you cannot return within a 90-day period.

"

Not true you will not be able to spend more than 90 days in a period of 180 so you can spend just under 3 months in every 6 month period. So you are up in arms about free movement and you havnt even checked out the rules?

"No.

My understanding is you cannot return within a 90-day period.

A 90 tourist visa would allow you in and out as much as you like within that 90 day period. The only rules are that you cannot spend more than 90 days in a 180 day period. Also if you spend 183 days per calendar year there you would be required to register as a Spanish tax payer."

You do anyway and change your uk driving licence even though it has the eu logo on to a spanish one.The arguments ive had over that with the Guadia are numerous.

I know someone who lived in Spain for a while teaching (despite the other person who says these people don't exist) and she was just given residencia according to her.

I am looking to relocate my company there. I'm hoping to achieve ZEC status. Hopefully creating jobs and contributing to the Spanish GDP will be more fullfilling than throwing my hard earned cash into black hole of the HMRC.

"I'm fortunate enough to be able to go on holiday several times a year.

This year, I went to Valencia in February and Alicante in April.

After Brexit, I will be barred from doing that by the 90-day rule.

Because UK citizens will no longer have the right to visit freely.

Only if your total stay will be over 90 days in any 180 day period.

You're rather lucky if that's the case....

If this exit goes ahead, that right will become a privilege, reserved for the few with enough money to meet the other country's immigration criteria.

Rubbish,f you want to work abroad you will be able to just another silly fear message

"

They voted to 'take back the power', yet no one has been able to tell me what power they are taking back. If it is rules and regulations, most EU regulations are based on ours anyway.

Unless it was to get a nice shiny blue passport maybe, which is made in France

I only took it on road trips between towns. Although the only time we ever took fire I took an FN rifle off the back seat. That made things go quiet. Looking back it was quite funny. A 9 year old in the passenger seat with a rifle pointed out the driver's window Mexican stand off!

Costa Blanca Spain...

"In the context of the few and the many, the many voted to give up their rights and convert them instead to the privilege of a few.

I'm talking about the right to live and work anywhere in the EU.

If this exit goes ahead, that right will become a privilege, reserved for the few with enough money to meet the other country's immigration criteria.

Why is it that the older people who have lived abroad and had those experiences are so keen to close the doors while the younger generation are so against Brexit having those same doors closed in their faces."

As an older person who does live and work abroad, I'll answer that.

Firstly no-one is trying to close the door on anyone. However a knock before entering would be nice.

A good example of how freedom of movement fucked up good style was not eastern Europeans flooding into Britain, but Brits flooding into Spain for all the wrong reasons.

When I first went to live there (2004) the property boom was in full swing and many Brits bought property's as holiday homes and retirement homes. Most (myself included) stuck to the rules, paid their taxes, and made a good contribution to the Spanish economy.

However a sizeable chunk didn't.

It seemed like every cowboy builder, plumber, electrician Etc. that was either too stupid, incompetent, crooked, or all three had turned up on the Costa thinking the streets were paved with gold. Add to those a small army of unskilled Brits who drifted from one bar job to another (most paid cash in hand) and the out and out criminals who thought that there would be easy pickings.

At the time the area was plagued with a mini crime wave. Everyone seemed to want to blame the Moroccans and while some of them were involved, the number of burglary's committed by Brits on Brits was truly scary.

Most of the above were driving around in old UK registered cars/vans that were not only untaxed but also uninsured. To be fair the Spanish police did a decent job of getting them off the road, but they were always playing catch up.

Thankfully the crash of 2008 ed out a hell of a lot of them and the law abiding ex pats were glad to see the back of them.

Of course freedom of movement can be a good thing but it also has a dark side. Not only from EU citizens entering Britain but from British entering the EU.

A few checks and a bit of paperwork seems a very small price to pay.

Conveniently forgetting that Amazon is one of the offshore companies that avoid paying taxes and that there are a number of high street businesses that have been forced to close because they can't compete with a company that doesn't pay the same taxes.

But of course we wouldn't want the man on the street to lift himself up with entrepreneurship. We want everyone to be employees. Then we can regulate their income.
