Won't make any difference.

Johnson could have kicked that child in the face as he lay on the hospital floor and people would still vote for him and his party.

And the same people would also find a way to blame it on Corbyn

This is a bit like Browns "bigoted woman" hot mic in the back of his car. It was the turning point of the 2010 election, and key in bringing debates on immigration - likely the pressure from Farage and the 2015 referendum pledge itself.

It's not good when your shadow health secretary 'Jonathan Ashworth' is recorded saying the Labour party made a mistake not getting rid of Corbyn.

And he also says the public is telling us that the Labour party are the ones who blocked Brexit.

He is now saying it was all some banter but you really need to hear the recording yourself. It doesn't sound like he is having a bit of banter, the tone of his voice is all wrong.

Labour spin doctors have deliberately made this an election about the NHS as to try to mitigate against it being an election about brexit which they would obviously get hammered on.

They've done a good job so far as polls now indicate more people put the NHS above brexit.

In other words labour are just as deceitful as the Tories.

No two weeks ago polling suggested brexit was voters number 1 issue today it's number 2 and the NHS number 1.

It's been a completely cynical and deliberate campaign by labour spin doctors.

It's worked well.

The mirrors lead headline which Corbyn held aloft as gospel was 4 year old boy treated on hospital floor.

The framing of this story is one giant load of political bollocks.

He had a bed, he lost his bed due to more pressing cases and a three year high on admissions, he was put in a treatment room that didn't have a bed (that's bad) but only a chair, his mother put him on the floor to sleep, it's not great but it's pretty fucking far from desperately ill 4 year old treated on hospital floor.

And if you've got a really short memory we can go back to the 4000 mother's given birth without a bed under labour or the Stoke hospital that required a public enquiry under labour.

The NHS was part sold off by the last Labour government.

PPI was introduced under their watch. They have some cheek saying the Conservatives want to sell it when they have already done so themselves.

Plus look at the Welsh Labour run NHS, it is in a shocking mess. I don't remember any Corbyn apologise for the state of that!

No he was on the floor because that's where his mother chose to put him for the four hours he was without a bed.

She didn't ask for a trolley, she didn't ask for blankets, she didn't decide to cradle him, she didn't decide to put the two chairs together they were sat on to make something to lie him on, she chose to take her jacket off and put him on it on the floor, then take a picture and send it to doctor who's a momentum member.

Still the NHS isn't as shit as you claim, they found him a bed and after one Nights observation released him for home recovery diagnosed with the flu and tonsillitis.

If it is considered to be true, why has she no independent evidence to back her story up. Surely there were other patients present apart from her and her son who would be able to verify her claim. Most parents would be trying to help an ill child , not placing then on the floor and taking a photograph as a cheap publicity stunt. As others have said there are plenty of chairs in a hospital and she could have placed her son on one of them.

It reminds me of the story when Jeremy Coryyn claimed he could not get a seat on a train

, yet there were plenty available in another carriage.

In the absence of any independent evidence from other patients to prove her story , I am happy to assume that this mothers claim is false.

Agreed whilst the story may not have been wholly faked there is most certainty an element of exaggeration. The trust made apologies for certain things, and that there were delays but it did not tie up with everything that the press originally said. A picture tells a thousand words ... but those words don’t have to tell the whole truth, pinch of salt needed that’s for sure. Need of the day those that it ties in with their beliefs will accept it, those that don’t will not ... makes no difference in the end of the day.

I'm not really fussed either way to be honest but I fear a long and profound unintended consequences in doing either but probably edging towards worse in stopping it.

Anyway don't you see statements like the law sees guilty / not guilty?

Surely as everyone is seen as innocent until proven guilty does the spoken / written word get the same benefit of the doubt? true until proved false?

we know this is false because the journalist who actually wrote and go the initial story for the Yorkshire evening post has written a lenghty piece on the timeline of what happened and how it was confirmed, verified and written...

we know this because his editor at the yorkshire evening post has also written a piece of whats has happened....

we know this because every high profile person on the right who tried last night to smear the mother in the way that you are still trying to has taken down their posts on twitter and facebook....

"They started it" is not an argument I'm interested in, to be honest.

You can't insist that the Labour party of today is fundamentally different from New Labour in one breath and blame Corbyn for the actions of the Blair government in the next.

The question is, who do I trust with the NHS? A social democrat from the party whose legacy it is or a neoliberal committed to a free market economy in all things?

It's not a hard choice.

It's worse than fake, it's a cynical and deliberate act of political gain from a bad situation...ie exactly what the Tories did with Westminster bridge.

All together now, it's Tory cuts selling off our NHS and you can only stop it by voting in a year you don't like from labour.

I don't like the NHS being used as political beating sticks.

It's one of the best examples of socialism in practice, it's relatively cheap and offers relatively good service in the vast amount of cases.

There's a funding gap that's been there since 2013, I'd rather it was honestly debated and put to the people on costing than used as a political tool.

I think a lot of people are missing the point here. It's not that a little boy was treated on the floor (he wasn't, he was waiting to be treated). I'm sure he's not the first or the last person, especially children, who has slept on a hospital floor rather than on an uncomfortable chair while waiting. It's also not whether his mother staged the incident or not (and it seems it wasn't staged or tacked but did actually happen pretty much as said). What is really shocking was Johnson callus reaction to the incident when he was presented with it. The story of the child on the floor can be spun anyway you want but Johnson uncaring response needs no spin and, whilst it won't change the minds of many who believe Johnson can do no wrong, it is definitely not playing in Johnson's favour with the undecided.

I follow the general rule of in these threads that if Pat (official site spokesman for the noisy minority) thinks it's OK and is arguing for it or doesn't think there's any thing wrong with something then it's probably going to go down really badly with most normal people.

now i trust you will STOP spreading fake news and theories!!!Oh twitter that great font of truth and knowledge. so was this kid TREATED on the floor by hospital staff or placed there by its mother while waiting for a bed?You seem to condemn boris for trying to make political gain from the terrorist attack which btw was started by yvette cooper on twitter and happy for comrade corbyn to do it with a child.

Its on sky newa right now saying that the incident WAS NOT fake.

It brought up numerous twitter posts that was copy and pasted word for word.

Fake accounts deliberately trying to deflect.

Can we put this to bed now?

The story was not faked. However she does not appear to have any independent witnesses in the form of other patients at the hospital that night to verify her story. If she was that worried about her son, she could have asked another family member to bring in small duvet or lilo. Instead she choose to lay her son on the floor and take a photo despite the fact that a chair was available for him to sit on.

If her version of events was true , why was her son the only person on the floor. ? "

The hospital its self verified the mums story.

So thats that.

Theres no more deflecting or defending johnstones reaction to this.

That's about the long and short of it.

However, the Mother should not have used her mobile phone in a clinical area. It's not allowed, and if she had any problems with her care, she should have taken it up with the Nurse In Charge.

As I've often pointed out, living your life by social media, brings a whole host of problems.

I think parts of the story were verified ( none of which were in dispute in any event ). The bit in question is who placed the child on the floor.

He’s just not a nice human being ...

Boris has been weighed and measured throughout the election campaign and there’s no better measure of humanity than its empathy towards others.

Who laid the floor, who cleaned the floor, all irrelevant as hell, there wasn't a bed and the child was treated where he was. Kids like to lay down, they don't tend to be able to sit in a waiting room chair for hours on end especiallyiif they are poorly so his mother probably placed him in the most comfortable position possible and she probably wasn't thinking about swimming pool toys to employ for him like your previous comment

Regardless of the details of the incident, when Boris was faced with this picture of a pretty desperate situation, he acted like a coward.

There are no two ways about it, the man is severely lacking in character. It's been proven time and again.

The only fakes I can detect are these alt-right posters worried about the damage to their chum Johnson.

From today's Metro:

The journalist who broke the story of a four-year-old boy lying on a hospital bed has hit out at claims the image was faked.

Daniel Sheridan was sent the picture of Jack Williment-Barr by his mother Sarah, 36, and wrote about it for the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The story, with the shocking image from Leeds General Infirmary, spread quickly and caused embarrassment for Boris Johnson yesterday.

But soon, there were several unfounded claims that it was faked, written in a similar vein and quoting ‘a good friend of mine’ who is a senior nurse at the hospital.

Reporter Daniel responded, detailing the amount of investigation that took place and how he fact-checked his piece.

He said: ‘I feel the need to clarify a few things about this story after seeing some tweets/accounts doubting the basis of it.

‘Sarah contacted the Yorkshire Evening Post following her son’s stay at the hospital. Due to the nature of the accusations, I requested and gave time for a full response from Leeds General Infirmary.

‘Within the response, Dr Yvette Oade, Chief Medical Officer at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, confirmed Jack and his family had been given a full apology.

‘Also within the statement, Dr Oade said ‘We are extremely sorry that there were only chairs available in the treatment room, and no bed. This falls below our usual high standards, and for this we would like to sincerely apologise to Jack and his family.

‘No story would ever be published by @LeedsNews without full verification. This was in no way staged, and highlights the need to check all accusations to avoid any miscommunication.

If the Metro in an attempt to clarify the issue does not know whether the child was on a bed , chair or floor , how can it even claim to verify stories before publication.

If it is as good at verifying news as it claimed to be , why has it not produced any independent witnesses or ward notes . Patients are normally checked on a regular basis. If she was that concerned she could have pulled two beds together and made her own bed for her son..

To me the main point of the story is the mirror running a front page with the headline boy of 4 treated on hospital floor when he clearly wasn't and corbyn running with it.

So you don't think the true story is about a sick kid having to lie on a hospital floor as he couldn't use a bed? Or about Johnson refusing to look at a pic of the sick kid on a hospital floor before grabbing and pocketing the journalist's phone? Or about the Tories later lying that one of their people was attacked at the hospital before video evidence proved their claim false? Or about hundreds of fake accounts suddenly popping up to lie and discredit the original news about the sick kid on the floor?

Ah traingate. The lie that never dies.

I'm afraid that smear was disproved by video evidence and statements of other passengers. There were no free seats. Video proved that the apparently empty seats in that infamous pic had people in them. Video showed them move into view whereas the pics had seemed to show empty seats. And travellers on the train admitted it was packed.

"The hospital apologised for the problems and recognised the truth in the accusation. It is only right wing deniers who can’t see the truth, even if it smacks them in the face. Another example of false news/lies from thr Tories to deflect the truth...

"

No i dont think so, if his mother chose to put him on the floor thats up to her its impossible for hospitals to have a bed readily available for everyone every day if that was the case we would need 60 million beds.Sometimes you have to wait, his mother could have had him on her lap but chose not to and if you cant see that a labour supporting newspaper was not trying to make some political gain you must be blind.

That actually had plenty of empty seats.

there were no available beds... thats the bloody point!

my god you are so fixated on a picture that you fail to see the point about the circumstances which everyone from the chief exec of the NHS Trust involved down readily admits happening, and have held up their hands and down so!!

Huh? The kid was ill and needed to lie down. The mother laid the kid down. Hardly her fault there wasn't a bed for him.

And are you really saying hospitals need 60 million beds? You think you might be exaggerating a tiny bit? Or do you really think the vast majority of the UK population are in hospital all the time?

I notice you don't address the blatant Tory lies here at all, by the way.

And yes, I'm sure this series of events is the fault of the evil left wing press. They made the Tories lie about all this. I'm sure they also cunningly made the Tories underfund the NHS for years to cause this situation.

The strain on public services is more due to population levels and an ageing, fat population than it is the Tories.

NHS funding is at a record high.

More Tory lies, I'm afraid. Ever since Cameron, the Tories have been spending less on the NHS than Blair and Brown did. You can look up the facts for yourself if you wish.

record high in money terms.... lowest increase actually as a Percentage of GDP... which means funding since 2015 in real terms at the moment is LOWER than the actual current inflation rate

want to try another point of attack...

Wrong.

"The amount spent on health has been increasing over the long-term. That’s true whether it’s expressed in cash, cash adjusted for inflation, per person, or as a proportion of the size of the economy."

- From Fullfact.

Every single year since the mid 50's, the NHS budget has increased. It's NEVER gone down.

1.9% under the last conservative administration...

and compared to 8.7% under Blair....

but heck.... statistics eh!

Bristol East

I was involved with the NHS for a number of years.

One of the biggest squeezes on it was from the inflation rate in the medical sector.

Purchases of equipment, drugs etc were increasing 5-6 % a year.

Unless funding also increased at this rate, it meant there was less cash to go round.

.

Real terms is the 30 billion funding gap from 2014 22 billion was meant to have been found by the NHS on savings and 8 billion by the government.

The NHS in between those years received above inflation budget increases, it's the 22 billion that's been the problem, they simply couldn't find it with the increased demand from immigration and the ageing population which they noted in 2013.

The government at that point either had to pay the 22 billion short fall or lower immigration, they chose to do neither.

a couple of things here....

a) all the times you have been talking about have been under conservative governments...

B) lowering immigration from where?

we already limit who can come in from non-eu countries!

and bearing in mind that EU costs to the health service are zero, because if they are not paying taxes here, the the country of origin picks up the tab under the E111 scheme... plus all those staff from EU countries working in the NHS

so as the people have said.... that would be that you are basically saying the Tories fucked it up.....

and are still fucking it up........

Well yea they could limit non EU immigration but didn't choose to in fact I think they lowered or have proposed to lower the standard to A level.

EU immigration sounds like it's costing nothing but if your paying let's say £50 a week(£2700 year) in tax but have a baby(£11,000 first year) (40% of all live births are to foreign born women) knee operation(£3500) hernia (£3300) doctors visit (£85) etc etc, then these costs mount and aren't quickly recouped plus an already aging population.

This is where the 30 billion funding gap comes from and 30 billion isn't small change(the entire schools budget is only 40 billion.

The NHS budget has gone from 122 billion to 136 billion in the space of one Tory government,14 billion extra is hardly a cut!.

You're either being deliberately misleading or you don't understand the true situation.

As a share of GDP, helth spending is at the lowest level in a decade. That's the figure that truly matters. That's why NHS waiting times are at their longest ever. That's why the NHS is on its knees.
