So Johnson has just done an interview with Sophie Ridge in which, in talking about his point-based immigration that it will allow in:
Kings and Queens, first violins, nuclear physicists, prima ballerinas and they can all come in by virtue of what they contribute.
How out of touch is this man? When trying to defend his immigration plan and having to come up with examples of people it would let in... that is whom he comes up with.
Not to mention as some people have pointed out, "Kings and Queens" generally already have a job in their own country... being the monarch.
Not care workers, not nurses, plumbers, fruit pickers, etc, etc. not my IT colleagues. Not the people that drive our busses etc... no... these are the examples he reaches for.

Have you looked at our current immigration policy?
Someone wanting to bring a non-uk citizen spouse can do so provided they earn enough money.
The rich may fall in love with foreigners. The poor may not.
The breaking up of families is in contravention of the charter of human rights. Yet this happens daily in first world countries.
At which point did we lose our humanity? |

The other spouse in this circumstance is a British citizen. Are you saying that if a British person marries a non Brit then they have to leave Britain if they want to live together as a family.
Oh an just as a side to that a person from the EU can have a spouse from anywhere and does not immediately need a visa. Meaning that EU citizens have more spousal rights in Britain than British citizens do. |

For someone supposedly so highly educated it's amazing he comes across so fucking stupid, or is it stupid, is it a case he sees everyone else as stupid that he can just lie and ramble on long enough that people willing to challenge him just give up while his fan base clap and howl like a bunch of performing seals to his every lie.

As already pointed out we have been lifting potatoes mechanically for the last forty years . Farm machinery is advancing and prototype machinery is already being tested to pick fruit.
I think the Farmers Union have already discussed a scheme that permits agricultural workers to come here on a short term basis.
Maybe we should be using our local Labour. I have picked both fruit and apples. It is back breaking work but a usefull source of money during school holidays. |

The point that I'm making is that we are trying to compete with the rest of the world on an economic level. In this day in age that means automation.
So whilst I thank you both for making us aware that farm machinery exists, all automated machines need engineers. Engineers we don't have... due partly to a poor policy on skills development and apprenticeships and partly because engineering is a poorly paid profession.
Up till now we have been getting by on filling in the shortages with EU skills..... you know where I am going with this one don't you? Now not only are we making it difficult for this to happen but our currency doesn't attract the skills any more.
It's pretty bad until you consider IR35 then it gets worse. It basically gives our self employed engineers the choice of becoming permanent employees or leaving the country. Again the weak pound doesn't help.
So if you want to back to manual labour then sure by all means. Knock yourselves out. Pre industrial revolution times weren't so bad... |

However if we are talking specifically about farm machinery I am not aware of any current issues with having farm machinery serviced apart from the cost. Unto now , machinery has become larger and more complex but we need less of it. Farmers have always been resourceful and adaptable and in many cases are quite capable of servicing their own machinery.
The solution is to train our own workforce . |

It's actually a telling sign on the Westminster bubble Oxbridge elites who govern us.
They genuinely think of immigration in this way, very few of them are representative of they're working class voters, you can see this in the switch from labour to Tories by them on mass, soon they'll learn the Tories aren't really interested either, they say things like bring down immigration to tens of thousands while doing the opposite and pushing it up, the official line of every party is see nothing, hear nothing, speak nothing on immigration and hope it all blows over.
