Have you been reading Mr Trump's Twitter feed again?

There's always been rough neighbourhoods in the UK that some people would avoid going to - 2019 is no different in that regard from any other year in history.

Depends on the time of day.

There are places in Salford that I wouldn't want to go into at night.

Got nothing to do with the actual (or perceived) ethnicity of its inhabitants though.

In your head, perhaps.

Violent culture has always existed in the most deprived neighbourhoods, white, black or brown.

All I can suggest is you have lived a very privileged and sheltered life if you are just discovering the world of hate that exists out there.

Women have been subjected to it for generations, the disabled, the LGBT, the BAME - all picked on because they are "different" from the gang.

Now you are feeling afraid because you are different from the "gang".

Nothing new in that.

It's called picking on people because they are different,

Welcome to the world.

Hop on and enjoy the ride.

There have always been rough areas which you might view as no go. There was knife crime in the 1970’s and razor gangs in the 1980’s not to mention football hooligans - my uncle who was a rocker in the 1960’s used to tell me how a big punch up would be arranged by gangs when he was young. It’s nothing new and if you read what gets published on the internet you would think that we are living in some kind of warzone. Knife crime has become endemic in London because the tory austerity drive led to the closure of youth clubs where these teenagers could have been mentored out of the gang culture and been given a safe place to meet up with other young people. There is also a correlation between the tories cutting 20000 police officers and all pcsos that has over the last ten years allowed the growth of county lines drug gangs spreading the blight of serious drug addictions to towns and areas that previously would only have had an alcohol problem. There is lots of non-partisan evidence easily available on the net which explains what the story behind the headlines is.

Re austerity and the removal of funding from routes o out of poorer neighbourhoods, Anthony Joshua's backstory is fascinating.

I do recall a glimpse in 2010/11 of a Cabinet Minister carrying a report which, when magnified, contained a warning of a rise in violent crime as a result of austerity cuts.

I have ex work colleagues that have left London for the same reasons you have said so I can understand what you are saying with regards to crime and drugs.Minority is a bit more tricky for me on a personal level although I was born and raised in London growing up I was in a minority as I have a non British name and a slightly different upbringing. At the end of the day if your friends children are growing up in a area where they feel they are in a minority then it’s there right to look at alternatives.

As long as the worthless pieces of scum in drug gangs kill each other, it's good for the planet. Hope they stay away from law abiding citizens.

If you want to be taken seriously on here dont just trot out the first dumbass comment you can think of - fact is Boris has said he is going to hire 20000 new police officers (you know, the ones they got rid of because of austerity!) so there are always two sides to the story and if you cant be bothered to use your noggin than why bother asking the question? Or do you have an ulterior motive?

With regards to the 20000 extra police they are going to recruit, not only does it not replace the 21000 they got rid of but as this is over a three year period it also fails to keep pace with the average of 7000 officers who leave the job every year.

Wow. Democracy has taken its course. The consensus in Parliament was that the Brexit options being presented would be crap for the UK and would lead to significant issues at the NI border.

The instruction was to do better.

As you know, Brexiteers were the biggest barrier to leaving anyway

In England and Wales in 2018/19, the police recorded 103,000 crimes aggravated by hatred of a protected characteristic.

Of these, three-quarters were race-hate.

Recorded hate-crime has doubled since 2013.

The Home Office states: "While increases in hate crime over the last five years have been mainly driven by improvements in crime recording by the police, there has been spikes in hate crime following certain events such as the EU Referendum and the terrorist attacks in 2017."

There were 8,500 crimes aggravated by religious hate,

"In 2018/19, where the perceived religion of the victim was recorded, in just under half (47%) of religious hate crime offences were targeted against Muslims (3,530 offences). The next most commonly targeted group were Jewish people, who were targeted in 18 per cent of religious hate crimes (1,326 offences)."
