The fixed term parliament act was touted as one of the great legacies of the LibDems part of the coalition.
It started with the General Election in 2015 and should have meant elections every 5 years.
We're about to have our 3rd in 4 years!

No it looked a good idea but needs to be modified so if a government loses its majority in the house there can be an election automatically |

Don't worry, when Boris wins the Tories have plans to scrap this and put forward rules to allow them to bypass parliament and British law for their own gain, but luckily the media don't mention this. |

it was simply a mechanism designed in 2010 to ensure the Lib/Con coalition under Cameron and Clegg endured for 5 years.
It's a bit like a temporary building at a school - it's still there 30-odd years later.
