The son of shadow Home Secretary Diane Abbott has been charged with assaulting two police officers during a disturbance at the Foreign Office. James Abbott-Thompson, 28, was arrested outside the Westminster building on Friday afternoon last week. He was accused of spitting at and punching one officer and biting the thumb of another at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday. He was released on bail and will appear back in front of the judge in February.
Earlier this year, Diane Abbott said that if Labour came to power there would be about 20 extra officers employed at each of the 18 government-funded violence reduction units, which bring together police, local government, probation, health and community leaders.
I guess she probably didn't think that they would be there as victims of her violent son.

It’s a very good question isn’t it! Maybe he is a badly behaved over-privileged politicians son who thought he could get away with it, maybe he believes what he is doing was right, maybe he was targeted for being an ethnic minority, maybe with all the cctv in London he was targeted because of facial recognition? Who knows? The only thing I can tell you is that you don’t know and are taking an easy shot because well that’s just what you do. It’s embarrassing for Mrs Abbott but there isn’t much more of a story here than say Bryan Ferry’s son being associated with beating up hunt saboteurs. Bloody kids eh! |

Bryan Ferry the pop singer? I don't think he's ever been in line for the job of Home Secretary, whose department is responsible for the Police services in England and Wales. I could be wrong. But the violence exhibited by the son of possibly the next Home Secretary against Police officers is a bit more serious, I think. |

It's not serious. It's embarrassing.
If she uses political connections to get her son off, that will be serious.
See the difference? |

I remember your rambling tirades about racism from another thread my friend so I won’t get into a big debate with you but my point is there are many people from all classes whose children have behaved badly but in the present overheated climate any one of the scenarios I outlined could be true and so the suggestion that she is unfit for office because she can’t control her 28 year old son is frankly a bit of a stretch and plays neatly into the hands of all the alt right on here. Maybe if he had behaved like the marchers in Selma it would have gone better for him? |

He is 28 not 12. Are you saying she should be held responsible for her adult 28 year old son? |

Spitting and punching a police officer and biting the thumb of anothèr can only be considered to be the actions of a violent thug. It hardly says much for Diane Abbott's parenting skills to bring up a son who engages in this type of activity .

They don’t walk around wearing them like bee keepers for gods sake. But police officers in some forces are issued with them as a result of certain parents children spitting at them. |

So sending him to a very expensive private school was no guarantee that he'd turn out a model citizen?
Don't worry, if Momentum win the GE, Home Sec Abbott will make sure it all goes away nice and quietly, Just like Blair and Straw did for their Kids, the last time an entity calling itself The Labour Party was in power. |

Spit hoods are put over the spitter. That’s why they are so contentious. |

Thats your finest comment yet! You really dont know much do you Pat. A spit hood is placed over an offenders head to prevent him from keeping on spitting on the police officer. They are contentious because like any restraint they tend to enrage the person who they are used on. Most officers are issued with them although in some forces they are only used on an offender once they have reached the custody suite. Does that help your understanding of the real world? |

"I remember your rambling tirades about racism from another thread my friend so I won’t get into a big debate with you but my point is there are many people from all classes whose children have behaved badly but in the present overheated climate any one of the scenarios I outlined could be true and so the suggestion that she is unfit for office because she can’t control her 28 year old son is frankly a bit of a stretch and plays neatly into the hands of all the alt right on here. Maybe if he had behaved like the marchers in Selma it would have gone better for him? Hi. Spitting and punching a police officer and biting the thumb of anothèr can only be considered to be the actions of a violent thug. It hardly says much for Diane Abbott's parenting skills to bring up a son who engages in this type of activity .
He is 28. However his behaviour will be a reflection on how his parents brought him up. How many people go around spitting at Police Officers or assaulting them . I would think very few.
Interesting how out of touch you are - police officers are issued with spit hoods as routine these days Pat - its a horrid thing to do but it’s hardly unusual Regardless of what you say I would still think it highly unusual for someone to spit at a police officer . I do not seen many officers walking around in spit hoods and I travel weekly to a variety of different locations.
Only an eceptionally nasty and maladjusted individual would spit in the face of a police officer.
Yes I think the the hood is rammed over their head then a few whacks with the batton should get it to fit just nice and snug |

Typical labour .... always going on about the privileged elite, mouthing off about the Tory toffs all going to Eton and private school, whilst Abbot and her fellow loony lefties send their own kids to private fee paying schools where you would have thought they would have more respect for law and order . But then again , this is abbots offspring we are talking about so not surprising there is zero respect for the law as she has none |
