well the fact that the IFS said the costing in the 2019 tory manifesto look more like the costing in the 2017 labour manifesto was an interesting point...

you could say that tories have going "Corbyn-lite" whereas as the 2019 labour manifesto is "Full-Corbyn"

Probably because the country has reduced its debt over the last two years it can afford to spend more.

Yes, the Conservative Party is planning to do exactly what the Labour Party did when faced with economic contraction.

"Fiscal stimulus"

Increased public borrowing to offset shrinkage in the economy.

Back then, Labour did it because the banks stopped lending.

This time, the Tories want to do it to soften the negative impact of Brexit.

The deficit, perhaps. Not the debt.

not quite......

the IFS say that the Conservative calculations still have "baked in" a lot of austerity level spending in a lot of different sectors.... in effect you are borrwing not for improvements but in effect for tax cuts....

interesting..... the IFS have said the Lib Dem numbers are "radical but credible" in relation to the spending they want to make and the extra income they have coming in........

hmmm... interesting to see who the actual "adults in the room" are....... and who just throw out numbers

When he was doing the summarising live on sky.

He said conservatives was pretty much "more of the same"

Where as labours manifesto was more of a blueprint for the future to bring us more in line with other countries in the EU.

Then towards the end he said sorry if hes been speaking mostly about labour thats not because he likes labour or dislikes labour but because their manifesto is huge where as "there is nothing in the conservative manifesto its empty...well theres very little in there".

This was then followed by cutting the mic and promptly went back to the sky studio which at the time i thought what a strange time to cut away.

But hey ho there it is...

More of the same or a blueprint working towards somthing that brings a lot of change.

I personally dont want more of the same.

Borrowing money to fund tax cuts tells you all you need to know about the priorities of the Conservative Party.

Did you miss the bit where everyone pays more in europe? where as corbyn wants to find it all from the top 5% which they all say is impossible.

Id be happy to pay a little bit more knowing that the very wealthiest in the top 5% are also paying more and its all going to making the country better for the next generations to come.

Can someone define austerity for me?

In the case of the UK 2010-19, it appears to be an exercise in slashing resources to services that poorer people have a disproportionate reliance on.

Community services starved of money, pay eroded for workers, a "hostile environment" for anyone seeking welfare support.

Didn't Cameron say we were all in this together?

So how has austerity affected the better-off?

It appears to me they have been rewarded by "austerity", in the form of reductions in their tax bill.

That is why I have no problem with some redistribution of austerity.

To date, it appears the least well off have been made to pay for the reckless greed of the bankers, while the well-off have been left untouched.

.

So poor people with no money have been made to pay billions for bankers greed?

How'd they do that when they've got no money?

in the 60s the top income tax rate was over 80%, labour was in power from mid 60s until 79 (bar one term in 70-74 I think).

Now do you think the country was amazingly better off in 1979 from these huge taxes and labour spending or fucked?.

"So poor people with no money have been made to pay billions for bankers greed?

No. Poor people, indeed most people, poor or not, have been denied adequate services - for almost a decade - because they have been cut, to save spending billions on them, rather than funding them properly by raising taxes from those who can afford to pay them.

As usual, your argument is worthy of nothing but derision and scorn.
