Corbyn did well and gradually won the audience over.
Sturgeon generally did well too. I think the audience liked her.
Swinson, though! It was like there was a rolling ball of shit chasing her down a hill, growing ever bigger. She did incredibly badly.
Johnson was exactly as expected. Catchphrases and avoiding uncomfortable questions completely. Nothing of subtance was said by him at all. |

I mean... don't get me wrong. Johnson was useless. All waffle, lying, deflection and meaningless catchphrases. But I'd fully expected all that from him.
But I was surprised just how badly Swinson did on the night. And I was amazed just how much the crowd seemed to dislike her. There was a dead silence after most of her replies. Barely a hint of applause. |

"They could rename that debate "the Swinson Gangbang". "
Now that would have my vote
But yeah, I watched it:
Corbyn - came across very, very well I thought. Pretty concise answers and managed to balance his realistic answers with enough polish to present them well
Sturgeon - didn't pay much attention, I'm not in Scotland.
Swinson - That first question of whether she thought it was a mistake to say she will be next PM and how daft is was... she never really recovered from there.
Johnson - Car crash... couldn't answer a single question with a straight answer, and the audience were not falling for his waffle at all. Shame never got to hear his answer on Vote Leave illegalities.

I kinda got the feeling from Swinson that she was the support band that you didn't really care about, know or want to hear, but had to whilst you waited for the main act to come on. I think the first question to her set the tone.
Johnson was useless and as you say, was completely as expected. What I did find surprising was how badly this actually went down with the audience. They were having none of it, and he got audibly jeered every time he tried to dodge the question or go back to vacuous catchphrases.

I think with Swinson, it was like everybody realised at once she was a hypocrite. And the whole audience skewered her for it. She had no good defence. She actually looked shocked at one point.
I am quite amused the tories have trotted out the same nonsensical catchphrases to the point they're proving detrimental. Serves 'em right. And their record in government is indefensible. More people are starting to realise that, I hope.

we all knew this wouldn’t be easy for all the candidates.
Did expect Jo Swinson to get mauled for her confusing party strategy, the lib dems are going to do worse than 2015 with her at the helm.
Nicola Sturgeon, if she did not want an independent scotland, I think she would make a competent Prime Minister.
Boris, another car crash appearance, his robotic and boringly repetitive “get brexit done” and blaming everyone else for calling an election he wanted, refused to acknowledge his words have consequences.
It was corbyn’s for the taking, and he did deliver, he gave answers to many questions and the audience responded to his approach, much more pragmatic and reasonable.
The right wing papers are really trying to paint this guy as a some crazy marxist. But then again we all know who their paymasters are.

Corbyn beating Boger in person it seems.
Swinson pulling the LibDem vote down.
How come they still get so savaged from one period of coalition during a global recession compared to years of crap created by the other two whilst in full control? |

I'm the "one" who said that and it was said as a bit of humour. Sorry if it offended. I did watch her and, yes, I agree. If we had the option to vote for her in the rest of the UK I would except for the fact I don't support Scottish independence however. I do, however, support the rest of her policies and actually think her and Corbyn will make a great alliance. |

I heard that too. I also read he's now going to be avoiding a local hustings event. It's almost as if Johnson's a coward or he's realised he's useless on debates.

I doubt Jo Swinson will be demanding her place at any future debates |

Can you imagine if she did another one and it was that bad again? |

I think it would be even worse now. People have seen how vulnerable she is to scrutiny and how badly she can defend things like her previous voting choices and her stance on brexit and any questioners would just go for the jugular. |

It was hard to watch her performance in the last debate and not think they need a new leader. Fast. |

I wouldn't disagree with your analysis even as a slightly ring wing voter.
What I would disagree with is this internet conspiracy that fracking is something evil, the science (97%) says it's safe when done with good regulation and we have great regulations, she's got that right and your just giving her shit for no other reason than some bullshit you've seen on Facebook.
The SNP yes they are against fracking but not drilling oil in the North sea, biggest hypocrites ever.

Errr...Jo Swinson now says she is against fracking and it is Lib Dem policy to ban it. |

Johnson's also arrogant enough to assume people will vote for him regardless of what he says or does. Based on history, he's probably right. Depressingly. Time and time again, people vote Tory despite their awful history in government. |
