lib/dems taking bbc and itv to court?
Jump to: Newest in thread
When it was announced there was going to be a live tv debate between Boris and Jeremy i was bit confused why there was no invite for the lib dems who have the 3rd highest following.
I dont agree with a debate with 6 or 7 partys like last time as they turned out to be a shit show with very little time for anyone to talk as everyone was talking over each other.
But to have just labour and conservatives in the debate feels a bit wrong too.
Surely the one party representing remain should be apart of these debates also? |

I do kind of agree with that but the thought of a face off between corbyn and Johnson being disrupted by Swinson would make it less interesting. She’s got a long way to go in terms of experience yet but I do admire her confidence....it’s quite attractive |

I agree it’s not a two horse race .
The SNP have the third highest following with 35 MP’s . |

The SNP only field candidates in Scotland though where as I presume the Lib Dems fields candidates across the UK so I think the Lib Dems should be part of the debates. |

I can see the liberals point as they are standing in the whole of the U.K. but Brexit and the Greens could say the same !
Perhaps have 3 debates ?
With the other 3 having one go each !
With labour and con at them all ? |

There is a legal requirement on broadcasters to balance their airtime during an election.
I imagine the argument of the broadcasters is that this a debate for choosing the next Prime Minister, rather than choosing a party to vote for.
At a UK-wide level, however, three are three parties in the hunt for a serious number of seats, and it does seem a bit of a snub to Mrs Swinson.

" I think they won 12 seats in the last election and with defections (not actually elected for the lib/dems)20 when you need over 300 seats do you really think she is in contention? |

"Does anyone actually believe that a tv debate makes any difference to the vote ?
"
If one or t'other, makes a big gaffe, yes.
Otherwise, probably not, though I do think Corbyn has more to gain, because it lets people see the true person, rather than the persona created by the right-wing media to help their chums in the Tory Party.
