A politicians job

the land of saints & sinners

It's too easy to critique and complain about politicians from all parties (I'm just as guilty as the rest on here).

But who here would do that job?

Just a simple yes or no answer

No hi-jacking the thread or putting forward a political view or comment about any politician.

Career politicians! 100+ years ago, politicians weren't paid at all, they did it for the interest of the country

West London

I would like to, but would not do it in this country now.

You have to get selected and then spend time trying to explain complicated things to angry people who have been promised as easy solution to all of their problems.

There doesn't seem to be space to discuss the real compromises needed to achieve any degree of contentment.

The yes/no, in/out, with us/against us atmosphere doesn't allow progress.

Could you imagine this situation where you work? The company would fold.

Nope too many skeletons in the cupboard that would come out and fuck me.

Although it could portray me as a normal person with the normal struggles and pleasures.

Morally I could do it but I am not sure I could hold back my opinion of some MPs and so I would probably end up on the naughty step a bit too often to be much good....I do rather like the idea of saying “is it the case that the honourable member for (fill in as required) is a tax avoiding, philandering, arrogant liar who is in the pay of Russian interests and looks set to trouser a big profit from the proceeds of a disorderly brexit?”

Being an MP is not the only way to serve.

Not so long ago I would have said never again but now I'm not so sure. Never say never again.

We’re not perfect, politicians are supposed to be. But the problem is this, there are certain acts which you can carry out which can bring their job into disrepute. Here’s what I think makes the list in no particular order.

1. Taking money from people which can influence decision making.

2. Lying about something which influences decision making

3. Lying to protect themselves or those around them.

4. Abusing their power to advance other interests.

5. Inciting people to hate with words and actions.

These topics can cover a myriad of sins, but the above is a good baseline of where these fit.

A yes or no answer seems a stretch. Ideally YES I would love to stand up for people, make a difference and shape policy and legislation.

In reality NO as we all know that's not how it goes. Plus scrutiny from the press and the average politicians and leaders willingness to throw others under the bus... I think there's a reason the arrogant and corrupt are mainly the ones in office
