Grantham

Going to start this thread for all the Politics "geeks".

Want to hear gossip and rumours from your constituencies, and anything else that seems relevant.

Starting off with.....

.... Could Boris Johnson be moving to a safer seat, to avoid humiliation in Uxbridge.?

His majority halved between the 2015 and 2017 GEs, and his pledges of "lying down in front of the bulldozers" with regard to the nearby Heathrow extension, could well come back to haunt him.

Labour are putting up a 25yo Iranian migrant against him, and will target the seat aggressively.

Could the vacant Sevenoaks in Kent be more to Boris's liking?

I wouldn't be surprised to see Kate Hoey standing for the Brexit bunch. Farage will need someone with some recognition stand a chance in an FPTP election.

Please share one lie he has told with us all. Then maybe you will tell us why we should trust de Pfeffel and the Tories, proven liars, or the Lib Dems who will also abandon everything they claim to stand for for a couple of seats in Cabinet. At least the DUP forced the Tories to bend to pay for their support.

Take no deal off the table. Election. Negotiate a deal with the EU. Ask the people if they want that deal or want to remain.

I'm sure you disagree with him. But I don't think what he's said is hard to understand.

Thats not true and a false equivalence. Both sides were armed with the exocet, France actually stopped additional missiles being supplied via Peru. France also declared an embargo on French arms sales and assistance to Argentina as well as giving information to the UK on what they had previously supplied to Argentina. The UK govt and SIS were already aware of the vulnerability of British Ships to the exocet.

But if thats the same as selling missiles to Saudi Arabia that are using them against civilian targets.

"Comrade Corbyn is openly a friend of IRA leaders"

Would you be referring to JC's contacts with Sinn Fein at the behest of The Speaker of The House who was making the request on behalf of the Government of The Day (a Tory government)?

If so, be careful, because I will point out the messenger is not responsible for the message and therefore by your logic it is Tories who are the friends of terrorists. (Who would have guessed that Tory arms dealers would like terrorists (state or otherwise) who use their equipment.) But I am sure you already knew that you were just indulging in a little transference, shame you are so transparent and the facts including statements in Hansard are too easily accessed.

Of course there are the official apologises and retractions and their attached contributions to charities chosen by JC and made in his name to save those who have disseminated that same lie before you.

How deep is your wallet? I hear JC supports a lot of charities that could always do with a few more bob.

Ah, so you’re confusing “opposing deals proposed by the Tories” with “blocking and delaying”?

Their position is pretty clear. They would negotiate attempt to negotiate a deal they believed to be better. Certainly better than Boris’ by at least reinserting all the deleted stuff protecting the status quo with regards food and environmental standards and workers rights. And then have a public vote on acceptance by that deal or remaining.

How is that disrespectful?

By way of analogy, if you and a group of friends voted to go for an Indian rather than a Mexican, would you be happy just to have a vindaloo because that respected the decision to go for a curry...

...or would you expect to be able to choose which curry you had when you got there? And maybe even reserve the right to change your mind and go for a Mexican after all if you didn’t like the look of the Indian restaurant once you got there?

Are you condemning his for trying to bring an end to the conflict in Northern Ireland? I don't remember him endorsing them. Sounds like smearing by association from here.

Arlene Foster was at Martins funeral, would you condemn her for that? Or Bill Clinton?

How you feel about people that sell british military secrets?

No good deed done (at the behest of a Tory and for the benefit of the country) will go unpunished.

The survival of BAE is dependent on its ability to adjust to market conditions.

The market it operates in is open and closed by political decisions.

It employs lots of skilled people.

Cannot be beyond the wit of their management to identify other markets for those skills.

From those rabid communists at Ernst & Young (EY) brexit tracker Assets worth around a trillion pounds are moving from London to hubs in the European Union ahead of Brexit, with the parallel shift in jobs likely to top 7,000, consultants EY said on Wednesday.

Banks, asset managers and insurers in London are opening or expanding hubs in the EU to avoid disruption from Britain’s departure from the European Union.

Britain is legally due to leave next week, but the British government is asking Brussels for a delay.

In its latest Brexit Tracker, EY said that 23 companies have announced the transfer of about a trillion pounds in assets, up from 800 billion pounds in the last quarter.

Dublin remains the most popular destination for relocations, with 28 companies saying they have plans to set up shop there, but Frankfurt, Luxembourg and Paris are catching up, with between 21 and 18 firms.

“As 29 March draws nearer, companies are reconfirming or revising the statements they have made about the extent of staff and operational changes they are making, but we are not seeing many last-minute surprises - firms are executing their plans as expected,” EY said in a statement.

From those reds over at the Royal Society:

The UK’s share of EU research funding has fallen by 28% (.5 Billion) since 2015 and the number of researchers coming to the UK as part of the EU’s Marie Sklodowska Curie Fellowships has fallen by a third. New analysis carried out by the Royal Society has shown that UK science has suffered amidst all the uncertainty surrounding Brexit.

Then there is the 60 Billion in lost growth since the referendum.

And the first step (ie the withdrawal bill) hasn't been achieved.

Procurement policy in the NHS has sod all to with the EU and everything to do with the ideology of whoever is in power in Westminster, Cardiff, London and Belfast.

The only EU regulation relevant to the procurement is the requirement for any public sector contract valued at £150k or greater to be advertised in the European Journal.

The decision about whether to outsource a service or keep it in-house is entirely a matter for the relevant administration in the UK. It has nothing whatsoever to do with the EU.

"What did Trump and his Ambassador to the UK mean when they both said the NHS is "on the table" during talks about a trade agreement?

They said the wanted it to be, and were told to fuck off by everyone! But Blair started hiving off NHS contracts years ago, the EU insist we open bids to all and sundry -all kinds of people are supplying the NHS with goods and services, have been for years, including the US I am sure.

It's blatent cynical scaremongering, everyone can see that.

"

And what governs who the contract is given to, from what nation?

I have to say though I was very happy to have surgery in the lovely BMI private hospital when it was offered to me on the NHS, and I dont really mind who owns it, only that we get the best treatment for the best value.

This isn’t made up stuff. This is the real deal. 3 of the most senior members of the Labour Party have openly supported the IRA over many many years . The evidence is overwhelming. They have made speeches ( all publicly documented). They attended pro URA rallies , attended Troops Out meetings , McDonnell to this day has a Hunger strike commemorative plaque hanging in his office ; Abbot repeatedly commented during the 80s that the death of British Soldiers in Northern Ireland was a victory. Corbyn has openly championed the IRA and steadfastly refused to EVER condemn IRA murders. Educate yourself and maybe learn something today.

I seem to recall David Cameron calling for the execution of Nelson Mandela as a terrorist in the 1980s. Is that any different?

I recall, too, Trump giving money to Adams at an IRA fund-raiser in New York in the early 1990s. Is that any different?

Your original assertion is a lie based on your own xenophobia and gullablity. Off you go to the MET, submit the FOI request for this type of public order offence and breakdown by nationality. If you can prove your assertion to be true with figures from the above sources, I'll make a donation of £40 to the conservatives.

By proof I'll accept that 52% of the offences are committed by Romanians. Until them, I will insist you are telling a deliberate untruth.

No idea about Cameron but that has nothing to do with the UK does it?

Cameron wasn't on the side of a terrorist organisation attacking the UK so I don't think it could be any more different.

If Trump donated to the IRA then it shows he's anti UK but Trump's not trying to be the UK Prime Minister either so again I don't know what you're trying to link here....

Labour has spent to many years seeking the vote of minorities of all persuasions for any sensible working class person to take them seriously (just look at the giraffe debacle for insane bollocks over sensible policy).

The Tories have always been the party of big business and that rankles the working class even those who are self employed.

The libtards could have done something if they hadn't been such a bunch of out right EU cock sucking cucks.

The greens are a bunch of hippy communist loons in flip flops.

The SNP are a bunch crazy nationalist who've done what the UK has done for decades and blamed all their own failings on the imperialist overlords.

I vote SDP there the best of a useless bunch of cunts who've got zero interest in actually running a country for the people who make up that country, you know the ones who are ACTUALLY SOVEREIGN.

For most of the 1980's Cameron was a mere teenager and nowhere near front line politics.

He only turned 20 in late 1986 and the closest he got to politics was as a bottom rung researcher in the very late 80's.

So I would love to see your source for that.

And according to a BMA report, EU compulsory competition and access laws on procurement ARE adversely affecting the NHS, and Brexit offers a opportunity to break free of them, as in so many areas:

"Competition within health systems leads to fragmentation and undermines the

NHS’s own founding principle of publicly delivered healthcare. While the extent to

which Brexit could facilitate an immediate change in competition within the UK’s

health systems, and most notably in the NHS in England, is debateable, the fact that

it presents an opportunity for reform is not. UK government must therefore end

the application of EU competition and procurement law as soon as possible, reform

domestic regulations requiring competitive tendering and not open the NHS up to

competition as part of future trade deals."

Eg with the EU.

And what governs who the contract is given to, from what nation?

Shifting the goalposts.

You said the EU compels the UK to contract out health services.

It does not.

EU regs governing procurement apply only if the member state decides to contract out a service.

If it does not, EU procurement regs do not apply.

"

Ok, so why does the BMA want the EU laws changed after Brexit?

Actually I didn't - I said it compels us to open bids to others (ie not keep tenders to ourselves).

"

Someone posts unsubstantiated nonsense about Cameron and Mandela.

Look it up.

Cameron at university.

The Federation of Conservative Students and their "Hang Mandela" posters.

"Nelson Mandela and all ANC terrorists are butchers"

He apologised in 2006 for the Conservative Party's attitude towards Mandela.

"

A 23-year-old David Cameron also enjoyed a trip to apartheid South Africa in 1989, whilst Mandela was still in prison, as a “fact-finding mission” funded by Strategy Network International (SNI). SNI was formed in 1985 specifically as a lobby group against the imposition of sanctions on apartheid South Africa and was reported to have good relations with then South African president PW Botha.

However, with regard to the “Hang Mandela” posters created by the FCS, Cameron appears to have had little or no role. Some of his Conservative peers at Oxford were widely reported to have had the image printed on badges and t-shirts, but from all accounts Cameron appears to have had little interest in politics whilst he was a student unlike Boris Johnson and Michael Gove. He was reportedly more interested in having a good time and the Bullingdon Club.

Smears by association are pretty weak. Remember this is in response to claims the Corbyn was an Ira supporter

Meh, Thatcher supported Saddam in the war against Iran, to the point of sending military advisors.

She also supported Pinochet and the Khmer Rouge.

The daughter of a man convicted of selling British military technology, has been a sitting MP keeping the minority tory govt in power.

It gets a bit ridiculous after a while but it shows the lengths that people wil go to damage JC

No, I did not raise Cameron in order to excuse Corbyn.

Just as I did not raise Trump in order to excuse Corbyn.

It was to demonstrate how attitudes of bellicosity rarely make for good policy.

The outcome almost always is dialogue - and regret at actions that seem unfathomable with hindsight.

Take the US for example.

It is now sitting down with the Taliban trying to work out a peace settlement in Afghanistan.

How does anyone reconcile that with the bellicose politics of 2002 and the lives of NATO soldiers lost trying to defeat the Taliban?

Labour has descended into a racist anti-semitic party, that has betrayed its core vote in the Midlands and the North, and is now "run" by an establishment, elitist North London clique, who view anyone and anything outside the M25 as irrelevant.

We definitely can't vote for anyone who is a friend of terrorists, so no Labour votes here.

How are you defining “a friend of terrorists”?

Comrade Corbyn is openly a friend of IRA leaders

Who are the ‘IRA leaders’ and how do you define ‘friends’ , are they friends on Facebook? Do they go for a pint together? Holiday together ?

Corbyn openly meets Adams, McGuinness and their cronies

So the internet must be full of pictures of them all together?

It is, and meetings documented, and Corbyn denying it."

Down at the White Lion every other Tuesday, doing the pub quiz? Meeting someone doesn't make them friends. Wasn't he trying to broker peace?

Not is he actually friends with Hamas just because by way of political etiquette, he once referred to them as ”friends”.

You presumably wouldn't argue that Donald Trump is friends with Putin and Kim Jong-un?

How does this racism manifest itself?

What are some if the most racist things the Labour party has said?

When the DUP are among those protesting antisemitism in the labour party you can laugh out loud.

Shall we talk about the Islamophobia in the conservative party, this is the former party chairman saying this?

Or Mr Farage?

No, it goes way beyond that - the laying of wreaths, the refusal to condemn actions of violence, the active support for various terrorists, both personal and organisational - like putting up bail for them, inviting them to parliament after the Brighton bombing and celebrating 'dead Tories', and yes, calling terrorists friends and always taking their side against our troops, always taking the side of anyone opposed to Israel...it seems at times anyone who hates and wants to destroy the UK too. The catalogue is seemingly endless and very well documented.

I’m not sure it really is though. It seems like a handful of things, often citied out of context, and repeated over and over and over and over again by multiple sources.

With something like Israel, I think it’s pretty clear that they are acting illegally, and have for decades been in breach of numerous UN resolutions. I’m not sure that being critical of that much is the same as being anti Israel. By all means let them build their wall around their designated border. But bulldozing entire Palestinian settlements to the ground to build new settlements? Like WTF? Being critical if that in no way condones the actions of groups like Hamas, but it does understand their plight.

Just heard Farage saying Johnson's plan is not Brexit.

If Johnson wins, Brexit will never happen, he says.

So the Brexit Party is going to contest every seat - unless Johnson dumps his withdrawal agreement and goes for the hardest of hard Brexits.

Boris has a choice now to pull the deal and join forces with Farage and go for no deal and drive the Brexit bus straight off the cliff or go head to head with Brexit Party and split the Brexit vote

Farage says Johnson is like a used-car salesman. The car may look fine from the outside. But it isn’t. This is not real Brexit.

It's hard to discern what the actual 'on the ground' truth is, but it does sound like way too many restrictions to trade, legal dominance and financial obligations remain in that deal.

Oh it's more than a handful, it is an ongoing lifelong pattern, and lately it is strongly reinforced by the unwillingness or at the very least tardiness in dealing with what I don't think anyone can deny are severe antisemitic issues, his party is currently under formal investigation.

I am always more interested in what is going on UNDER the surface, discerning the spirit behind the action, and find in an extremely dark and dangerous man.
