Unless stop and search is used for a valid reason, as in after an offence has been committed, and not based only on Acting or Looking Suspicious then No. . . Stop and search should be banned.
Police use this the same way as they use the Public Order Act . . Even to the extent of arrest for laughing at them, a pal of mine witnessed a policeman trip on a kerb, he was then searched, cautioned and threatened with arrest under the Public Order Act. . .they'll get you for anything. |

Black people remain much more likely (4-10 times depending location) to be stopped and searched than white people, and this gap has widened in the most recent year we have figures for.
Police do make arrests in many cases, however the important things to look at are resulting prosecutions. Also, overall there is little evidence to show they act as a an effective tool to reduce or deter crime |

That's because there five times more likely to be involved in knife crime or acid attacks which is the primary reason for stopping and searching. |

If they've reasonable suspicion post crime, someone matches the description given. Or they are in immediate vicinity.
Unfortunately I've seen the police abused their authority too many times, to give them carte blanche when it comes to stop and search. |

Id take issue with that statistic plainly as the incarcerated numbers of black people are so much higher in the states compared to their actual population! It could well be the statistics say black people have been involved in knife crime because its a crime to carry a knife ! Not because a crime has been commited using a knife as a tool to commit that crime! And if thats the case, why isnt the same rule applied to firearms |
