That’d be a NATO matter, perhaps?

And considering the de facto head of NATO has said today that they are not worth defending since they didn’t help the US in WW2 or on the beaches of Normandy, or indeed defend their airports during the Revolutionary Wars, I see no prospect of that.

Genocide? Of course it is- that’s the whole point/aim of withdrawing the troops.

The UK should keep their noses out of foreign conflicts unless called upon by bodies such as the UN, NATO or The European Union Military Defence Force.... ohh, that last one doesn't exist

Yes .......most of the isis fighters in custody in Syria are from Europe....All European countries should go and bring them back to face trials....Why should the Kurds have to look over European isis prisoners?????

You can take action yourself by.

Sending money to aid agencies that provide medical care in the area.

Boycotting Turkish products in supermarkets and stores.

Writing to your MP can help.

Don’t eat baclava or eat in Turkish restaurants and avoid Turkish barbers.Find a Kurdish barbershop

Or go out to Syria and pick up an Ak47 and go Rambo on the Turks.

Or furiously type on your keyboard from the comfort of your armchair.

I endorse none of the above by the way

The Kurds have been fucked over. But it’s about time we let these people in the Middle East just fight it out. I couldn’t give a flying fuck who kills who out there. Sticking western fingers in the dam of hatred of nation against nation, religions against religions only delays the inevitability of these people wanting to get stuck into each to try to wipe each other out. There will never be peace out there

‘These people’....

This is not a war in isolation, unlike maybe in Africa....this involves and does and will affect the whole of the Middle East and the western world. We simply cannot sit back and think it does not affect ‘us’. It does ...and it will.

I’ve posted about the Kurds before, about two years ago, on exactly this.

What was the saying from WW2? ‘First they came for the sick then the Jews and I looked away. When they came for me, there was no one else to help me’....( roughly)

The collapse of the ottoman empire and the arbitrary division of the middle east by the french and british with no reference to tribal or religious grouping led to this....that and the oil and gas wealth in the region is what keeps it going

That seems harsh but i get your point. Did they give a fuck about all those brave heroes who died defending stalingrad from Hitler? Or perished on the beaches of Normandy trying to free the people of France? Did they think twice during the Nanking Massacre where 300,000 were killed? I doubt it. So.... let's ask Sweden what they're going to do about it.

The Kurd's have no chance of being supported by the West (or anyone else for that matter). Simple fact is the petrochemical industry has too much invested in the political status quo in the countries that supply crude oil and an independent Kurdistan would cause a significant shift of political control in the crude oil supply market because of the reserves located under the Kurdish homeland.

No.

The Syrian Democratic Force is multi ethnic.

Its objective is to establish a secular democracy.

Kurdish refugees from the border area are fleeing to Arab towns where they are being taken into people's homes.

It beggars belief.

How much money did the UK spend on the operation to crush IS?

(Probably not as much as Russia, but that is a separate issue)

The Kurds were the boots on the ground, moving in to clear towns that had been bombed by the UK and US.

It appears no-one wants to take responsibility for those who were detained.

Except the Kurds.

Al Jazeera says there are 11,000 IS fanatics being held in the border zone.

Their territory has gone, so their only course is to revert to what they are good at - terrorism.

I cannot believe anyone just shrugs their shoulders at these people fleeing captivity amid the chaos of a Turkish invasion.

Plenty of Britons went to Syria to fight alongside the Kurds against the IS fanatics.

A young woman from Bristol, carrying a gun supplied by NATO, was killed by a NATO weapon fired by Turkey.

The Kurds had women fighting alongside men.

In IS eyes, to be killed by a woman was the ultimate shame.

"Yes I’m serious !

Should we help the the Kurds !

After all they guilty of defeating isis !

Yes I do mean boots on the ground !

Don’t say this lightly tho !

I just have a horrible feeling this could turn into genocide !.

When you say WE you don't actually mean you do you?.

Don't get me wrong, if you do mean you I'm all in favour of you going out there and putting your boots on the ground, hell I'll even throw you in a pair of my old ones.

And I don't say this lightly because I reckon you've got a good chance of being killed out there but yea I sure do applaud YOU going out there and taking a stand on YOUR morals.

You go girl Yup ! I guess I asked for that ! .

At least you acknowledge my point, it's more than most on here. A debate works both ways . I often start thinking something read the posts and adapt my view . Not necessarily change , but if you don’t take any notice of other people’s posts reply’s , what’s the point ?

I re read and thought I sounded sanctimonious !

Tho I still think the Kurds are been shafted !.

In the internet age we must do something has become a token gesture that's actually working in reverse, it's so easy to become Pius and noble that we've actually lost the ability to do it in real life, "virtue signalling" is a psychological reality.

Save the whale, save the Badger, save the planet, save the Kurds, once upon a time we just wore a t-shirt or a badge, now we trot out line after line to strangers in an ever more desperate attempt to seem anointed, now we're all so virtually virtuous it's hard to spot it when it genuinely happens so fair play to you.

There's a save the Kurds charity online, stick a hundred quid in it tonight. not done a hundred but yes I saw it and have .

I think the double standards and hypocrisy are what got me annoyed .

I in no sense think the Kurds will be perfect , but the betrayal of them after the west has used them is quite breathtaking !Thats life unfortunately mate people are getting shafted every day. "

True !

The Kurds in Northern Syria have radically changed the political landscape in northern Syria. In the Middle East they are a quite unique in the region for their moderation.

They Kurdish in northern Syria refer to this development as the “Rojava Revolution.”Worth a google..

Wikipedia says.

After declaring autonomy, grassroots organizers, politicians and other community members have radically changed the social and political make-up of the area. The extreme laws restricting independent political organizing, women's freedom, religious and cultural expression and the discriminatory policies carried out by the Assad government have been superseded. In their place, a Constitution of Rojava guaranteeing the cultural, religious and political freedom of all people has been established. The constitution also explicitly states the equal rights and freedom of women and also "mandates public institutions to work towards the elimination of gender discrimination

I once overheard a teacher from a north Manchester town explain things to an ethnic minority school pupil.

The teacher explained that in the past, Britain asked various middle eastern countries to fight on the side of Britain. In return, they were promised some land. Unfortunately, lots of countries responded to this generous offer. After the war was over, Britain realised it had made the same promise to many people, but it had only a little land to give away. All the people who had supported Britain wanted the land that they had been promised. But there wasn't enough land to go around. And that is why the Middle East is a variety of countries fighting over one piece of land.

The teacher might have been wrong.

"Kill em all....let god sort them out!

The US 7th air cavalry used that slogan during the vietnam war....that turned out well for everyone involved didnt it "

That saying goes back to the Crusades. Back then, the Kurds fought against Westerners - and who could blame them?

I read a fascinating piece on CNN in 2015.

Some Americans fancied themselves as christian soldiers and joined the Kurds.

They came home after six months, complaining the Kurds were too left-wing.

If you want a simple overview of whats going on in various parts of the world a good place to start is “prisoners of geography” by Tim Marshall - its a very good explanation of why conflict keeps happening in the same parts of the world and why it will keep on doing so - it also gives some insight into why places like greece could never hope to be more than just a holiday destination.
