Well, apart from us, France is the only EU country to spend NATO's recommended 2% of GDP on defence, so the EU really want us to defend them, while most EU nations spend their money on themselves.
We're in NATO. End of. There's no justification for an EU-wide Army, Navy or Air Force. Yes, standardise the kit where possible and co-operate but we don't want some German, French or Belgian general deploying our armed forces around, thanks.
In a generation or two, they'll be fighting one another again, as they have all throughout history. Next time we should just let them get on with it, as we should have done in WW1. |

my thoughts are that since the UK actually has a legally recognised opt out on Defence issues.... that whoever is putting this out is trying to scare people....

I dont think any non Nato country expects defence from Russia from the UK.
Most of them just dont see Russia as a threat, and think the that America and UK make them a threat to justify spending.
Saying that.
UK is a five eyes country. Everyone knows this. They co-operate fully with CIA, and whatever the CIA says then Mi5, and Mi6 and British intelligence try make happen.
This is why UK went to war in Iraq and Afghanistan and France said no. France is not a five eye country, UK is. UK had to.
So what would be different for the UK if they switched from Five Eyes to an EU system? well they could skip all the wars America is trying to start, could back away from Iran, could focus on building a system that protects the UK and not American interests. |

Agree 100% but worse would be the current excuse for the labour party taking over this
