Is it my imagination, or has the government leaned on the BBC? Comparing say ITV or newspaper coverage and BBC news, there seems to be some really hard hitting and critical comment on the former while the latter is showing pics of Boris cuddling puppies and helping old ladies across the road?

Didn't they abolish the old editorial independence board a few years ago and replace it with a government board?

The BBC has been a pro-government propaganda vessel since Blair threatened them with taking away all their funding and replaced the top man with his own person. Anyone too openly critical of the government was sidelined or sacked. This was back in the wake of the Dr. Kelly scandal.

Blair forgot the golden rule of government though - the other lot will get in eventually, and they will use your own weapons against you.

The BBC is now firmly under the thumb of the government of the day. Even bloody Have I Got News For You doesn't dare say anything too critical of whoever happens to be in charge on any given day.

This is true. It was the Gilligan/Kelly witch hunt that put paid to the Beeb News finally.

They seem, these days, to have a definite policy in place to starve U.K. viewers and listeners of any international news at all (other than the usual U.S Trump bashing). For instance, a week before his attempt at re-election, N3tanyahoo has announced he plans to annex 600 sq. miles of The Occupied West Bank if he wins. This was not even mentioned on the 9am Radio4 bulletin. One really has to look elsewhere these days to find out what is going on in the world. A relatively new phenomenon here, this practice of 'keep them in the dark and feed them on 5h1T" has of course been going on for years in the U.S.

Thanks for this.... maybe I'm stupid but it wasn't until I actually compared news content yesterday that it became clear that Bojo gets the kissing babies coverage. Looks like The Times gets best ratings for a UK news source?

The Times is hardly an unbiased source of news. Owned by Murdoch, with a huge vested interest in leaving the EU. On a personal note, also one of the movers in the campaign to demonise trans women over the last several years. Very cynically, i suspect that murdoch, the barclays, and most other multi-billionaire news owners involved in this campaign have nothing whatsoever personal against trans women, it's just very handy to keep a scapegoat ready to distract the populace with. However it's my life that they are trashing.

.

In the good old liberal days we used to say you can do what you want with your own life as long as it doesn't effect other or requires others to change.

That's half the problem with the trans movement agenda, most people couldn't give a shit if you wanna dress as a woman, have tit jobs, it's up to you, personally I don't have a problem calling you Julie or James, I really don't care...

However, the rest of society want to define male and female for various things and that's where it gets tricky because now the trans movement want to impose there views on us, freedom to do what you want personally is a great thing but so also freedom to say no we don't think your a woman or at least not a woman how we choose to define it.

Sadly the whole thing has become so radicalised that now nobody says anything for fear of saying the wrong thing and offending and that's not good for us all getting along.

And that perfectly illustrates the shit that the media have caused us. There is no trans movement agenda, it's a pile of crap that the right and left wing media have made up. Exaggerating the views of an incredibly tiny minority on the fringes of trans society. Stirring up ill feeling. Coming out with all sorts of bollocks that none of us are asking for.

However, that's hijacking the OP, it's a subject for another thread that i really couldn't be bothered starting because I'll just get accused of, well the sort of shit that the times, telegraph, guardian, mail, express, sun, bbc, sky, conservatives, labour, rightwing nutcase parties, leftwing nutcase parties have been hammering out for years. Apologies.

Back to the OP - I can't think of hardly any news source that gives a fair assessment of the state of affairs now, but the BBC and the English newspapers are all pretty horrendous at the moment.

I actually totally agree with you but there lies the problem with many movements, were all defined by the so called representative minority fringe.

Fair play I'll leave this debate for another time.

This idea of a "trans agenda" is nonsense, I agree.

Every cohort has its lunatic fringe and trans is no different.

Rewind 30 years and the right-wingers needed something to beat with a stick.

Then it was gay rights.

Now they need something else to beat with a stick.

So take the lunatic fringe, magnify them and beat them up.

Create an impression.

So much so that the Brexit - Sorry, Conservative - Party is road-testing the idea in northern constituencies of throwing trans people under the bus.

The right-wing media creates a demon for a right-wing party to exploit.
