Definition of liberal

So here we all are on a swinging site engaging in a lifestyle hobby that is the very definition of liberal. The French actually chalk Swingers “Libertines.” Right wing values by definition support family values, the sanctity of marriage and moralised attitude to the way that life should be lived.

I see a number of people on here whose posts read as though they really are liberal, tolerant and will think about the actions and consequences of others and how those actions might impact third parties. True liberal minds.

Then there are others.... such people appear to embrace a more right-wing philosophy and openly support the derision of what they see as the “loony left” attitudes of liberals and people who support liberal attitudes and values. It gets even more bizarre when such comments come from transvestites - a sector of the population that would not even exist in the type of authoritarian society that they seem to want to aspire to. I guess it is understandable that frustrated, single men get all aroused at the thought of “strong leaders” and authority but even so.....?

How do the right wingers on here explain away their private dalliances with this liberal lifestyle? How can you truly be in favour of right wing family values and yet partake in casual sex with married people?

I find the contradiction very interesting -especially so with those from the TV/TS community.

Lol well if we ever needed a opening on how closed minded, judgemental and self righteous the far left or loony left really is this is it lol brilliant

Tolerant,, but won’t let the lgbt community think for themselves and should be brainwashed like the rest

Liberals used to exist and was fair and open minded but that is long gone, the loony left is now full of hate, looking to blame others and criticising others who don’t agree with them, always thinking they are better than others

The old left ( liberals ) were great, but the new far left ( loony left ) are not

Thank you so much for posting what you did, completely proves mine and others points

Lol brilliant

"How do the right wingers on here explain away their private dalliances with this liberal lifestyle?"

I'd imagine they do it the same way left wingers like me do it - hypocrisy.

It's everybody's 'get out of jail free' card.

I, for one, am glad I live in a liberal democracy that allows me to be a transvestite without undue trouble; and also allows me to call out right wing types for the utter bullshit they spout.

They don't like it - but not a single one of them has ever tried to stop me.

That's one thing the left wing do (no me personally - but way too many of them) that they shouldn't; tell you who you should be allowed to engage with, or listen to.

Fuck that! If some pound-shop Nazi wants to air his views, fair enough. I don't have the right to silence him - I'll just ignore him or call him out on his bullshit.

I get offended by a lot - but I've never been physically harmed - just irritated as fuck. I cope with it; it's not so hard.

Remember - no matter how shit things may be for you if you hate Brexit, Tories, Republicans, Trump, Farage, Boris, etc - you don't live in Syria.

Right?

It's an interesting point. I suspect you're attributing too much thought to the right wingers. If they think it's okay to like Trump, vote for brexit or support Tommy Robinson, then they're not the type of people who will consider that this liberal lifestyle is against their chosen philosophy. Expecially true for out friends who are LGBT+.

On the other hand anyone who describes non racists as "loony left" instantly highlight themselves as people to avoid in life.

Aight. Good points.

We're in this generally tolerant country because people have stood up to the oppressors of the time.

The current lot you mentioned are the people we need to resist.

Lol so you have to like and support those three things to be right wing lol come on dude that just stupid even you must know that lol

I consider myself on the right, and I don’t care about brexit won’t change my life, I’m not a free loader and I work hard, I think we voted now let’s get on with it.

Trump is a massive dic, but I will defend anyone ( even stupid people ) if they are being slandered or unfairly attracted, do I think he’s doing a good job ? Yes I do

Tommy Robinson, don’t know much about him but at first glance seem racist , so no love from me here

This is why the loony left will always look stupid as they guess, think they are superior and hate any difference of opinion , it’s all about hate, wanting everything for free, being lazy and narrow minded. The original liberals I feel sorry for

Pretty certain no one likes racism, but sexual harassment? Remember when you wrote and supported that ,,,,,, remember

Your do realise liberals tolerating your chosen lifestyles does not mean they have to support them or promote them as normal!. There's many liberals who take drugs and tolerate friends who do but don't think taking drugs is normal or should be promoted

That is the job of the far left not "the left".

Right wingers are conservatives, they want to conserve the status quo and far right don't like the status quo but seek to return to bygone days.

30% of Hispanics voted for trump because there working class conservatives and he best fitted they're values over Clinton, I myself am probably what would be called the centre left on politics, I like the NHS, social security, progressive taxes etc etc, I'm a liberal when it comes to tolerance of others differences and foreign wars and probably right of centre on law and order, drugs and immigration (managed).

I fail to see how any of that affects me fucking your wife

It's interesting that few people who describe themselves or might be viewed as right wing, have responded to the specific questions.

The right wing of late appear to be more befitting a description that includes elements of psychological disability, which they liberally use as slurs against those they perceive as on the left: lo@~y left. Putting the livelihoods of millions of people at risk, potentially seeing cancer and other treatments denied to those suffering, could benevolently be considered a minor disorder, if not viewed as psychopathically cruel.

We don't know that much about what differences exist between those on different parts of this continuum but disgust and anger have been noticed for those more to the right. An all-about-me, self-centred perspective could be considered as identifying someone with deficits, being needy and deficient.

The trajectory of the west is towards a more permissive society, albeit those who are in or out changing over time somewhat. People can isolate and eject themselves , if death doesn't rid others of them first, as they become anachronisms and the Tundra, of living culture.

"Is loony an adjective used for everyone left of centre... Or is it for a specific type of lefty... And if so what? "

It's used by people to attempt to discredit individuals on the centre ground. For example "Loony Left" been used to describe people who questioned renewing trident, people who stand up to bigotry, people who are against harrasment of the LGBT+ community.

Things that really have nothing to do with being left or right.

Liberal should just mean someone who supports personal freedom. They should support free speech, you having a gun.

Like abortion, the persons personal freedom to have an abortion.

However these days its wishy washy. No guns, No free speech, No botox injections for teens, limiting access to porn etc etc.

There is nothing wrong with being liberal in one area and not in another. This can happen due to just thinking one thing is moral and the other is not, thats perfectly fine. But if you think like this then youre not really liberal.

Like a conservative is liberal with free speech but not about abortion. This basically means that they prefer the current situation than changing. They dont want to gamble with changes.

So liberals these days are just people who like to say things that sell well on social media.

Really we need debating classes from a young age so people can see through the scams they use to convince people.

"In the uk being liberal is going against the wishes of the people because you dont like what they want."

Is this a suggestion that only liberals are against brexit?

It's funny, I guess we see ourselves differently than how others see us.

I'm neither left or right. Every issue is different for me and I have my own opinions rather than following a concensus of a certain group ie "Liberals" would view something. This is why I don't like any news papers and why I could never be a member of a political party.

I'm assuming you would consider me a "liberal" for being against brexit?

I've been called "loony left" on here for speaking out against race hate.

I've been called a "right winger" by people in real life for some of my opinions on copywright law.

Meh.

insisting that even if a second referendum returned the same result she would still continue to try and stop brexit doesn’t exactly fit with the Democrat name of her party.

You could also point at the fact 2 of her current mp are sitting there having won constituencies with sizeable majorities for parties other than the one they are now MPs for ... again not exactly very “democratic “

Liberal is a dirty word for the right Its all about who controls the definition of the word and how to use it to your advantage.

Same for the word conservative.

You have to own the language and claim it to win..

Most of us acknowledge the benefits of living within a society that has some constraints, including norms such that we don't injure or kill others at whim. We value this and other liberties our culture supports. Like many aspects of personality, our preferences for this are along a spectrum, or more.

Are the intolerant, judgemental, critical towards one end, away from those who are accepting, generously giving and permission giving towards others enjoying equal and full freedoms. Our western cultures have largely moved from less equality towards more, including times when owning and profiting from slaves was widespread.

No, I don't think our angry little poster cares about that - he's just worked up about the idea of bars not serving straight people during Pride.

But given we don't know what bar this was, why they might have this rule, or whether this was an official policy or someone coming up with an excuse to not serve people they didn't like the look of, it's probably not worth getting worked up about unless you're a snowflake looking to get offended.

I said we don't know anything about where or why two people weren't served because they apparently looked straight. The BBC article doesn't have that information.

Try reading comments before replying, and making a little effort to understand them, it really helps.

Hmmm.

No, I don't think our angry little poster cares about that - he's just worked up about the idea of bars not serving straight people during Pride.

But given we don't know what bar this was, why they might have this rule, or whether this was an official policy or someone coming up with an excuse to not serve people they didn't like the look of, it's probably not worth getting worked up about unless you're a snowflake looking to get offended. .

It's on the BBC news website this morning why don't you look it up before joining in with your usual nonsense

I said we don't know anything about where or why two people weren't served because they apparently looked straight. The BBC article doesn't have that information.

Try reading comments before replying, and making a little effort to understand them, it really helps. "

.

What you failed to read the two transgender people's own words in the article.

My god your stupider than I first thought. Just for you here's what they said.

Ryan, a black transgender student, says he had to "out" himself as transgender in order to be served.

"Myself and my black friend, both trans men, were refused drinks at two bars because we were told we looked too straight," he said.

"In one of them the person on the bar told us to our faces 'I don't believe that you are transgender guys'.

"How can we as an LGBT community push for homophobes and transphobes to change their ways if we're still fighting with each other about something as basic as race?"

Ie the barman confirmed if there'd actually been straight they wouldn't get served and it would be all dandy because it's fine discriminating against straight guys.

I'll try one more time. I'll also refer you to my earlier comment about making a bit of effort when reading and understanding comments.

I wasn't questioning the guy's story or saying it didn't exist. I was suggesting drawing conclusions about bigotry against straight people from it is silly, because:

We don't know if this bar had an official policy of not serving straight people or if it was one member of staff being racist/transphobic.

If they did have a policy, we don't know if it is a permanent ban on straights or just for Pride.

If they did have a policy we don't know why they had it (it could have been due to straight people causing trouble during Pride, for example).

And finally we don't know what this bar is, so we can't check any of this.

Given all of the above, it's a little bit silly to conclude that this must be a terrible case of straight rights being violated.

But you go ahead if it gives you pleasure.

I'm confused by his story. He says he was refused because he looked too straight. And finished talking about race.

Either which ways, if he was refused service for either reason, that's not on.

So having read this, my takeaway is liberals are those who support legalising guns.

That makes it way more fun to watch all these loony left comments fly by.

Sounds like the guy suspected it was about race, but the barman gave the 'too straight' reason as a way of trying to make him feel uncomfortable and leave, because he didn't feel able to say 'too black'.

Anyhow the bit I read was astonishing, two transgender guys were refused service because they looked to straight!! Have no fear though, they eventually proved there transgenderness and were served!.

Heavens Abid any straight people got served, what the actual fuck

Not sure I understand your point..

They were only outraged that the staff thought they were straight! Not that they refused service because your not lgbtqropz.

I don't think you know what 'whataboutery' means.

There's actually an interesting debate to be had over to what degree it's reasonable to have a 'safe space' that excludes people who can be seen as oppressors. But given that both your reading comprehension and ability to express yourself clearly aren't great, I don't think I'll get anything out of that debate with you.

And as it would also be off the original topic, I'll draw the line here and let you get on with being a poor persecuted straight boy.

If you read what wrote and still can't figure it out were getting nowhere on what's a liberal, honestly

I did read it. But I still don't understand.

At least I tried. "

"I happened to notice the Manchester pride festival on the BBC news, intolerant gays being judgement and racist?.

Oh

So the conclusion is that there are dickheads everywhere. Regardless of gender, sexual orientation, skin colour, country of origin, which God they believe in etc..

Try reading comments before replying, and making a little effort to understand them, it really helps.

Assuming all this, he said, she said stuff is true. It's not a good situation, for sure.

But some idiot refusing to serve a straight person a pint isn't the worst problem in the world right now.

I'm not understanding why you're so angry about it..

Your the second person to use the angry word despite me never using it or saying I was, I dunno it's as if your the same person? .

Anyhoo I'm not angry, astonished by the hypocrisy maybe, dumb founded by the left narrative of oppressors maybe.

Angry requires to much energy consumption

You used a lot of insults, exclamation marks and swearing. So it's easy to see why I thought you might be angry.

In anycase. What's the hypocrisy you see in the left?

I'm not trying to pick a fight. I just don't know why this incident highlights hypocrisy in anyone, anywhere..

Omg your so middle class, swearing indicates angry . Get fucked is used as a cheery hello around my parts of the world

This is the internet. I can't see your face or hear your tone of voice.

Anyway, if you were angry or not isnt the main issue.

I dunno, other people just slagged you off for your posts.

I genuinely tried to understand your point.

Tis fine, when they go for the jugular, you know your on to something

Right I'm off to start a straight white pride parade for men with hairy arses only.

I need a safe space away from oppressors and aggressors so I'm starting it in Louth far away from the madding crowd.

I'd invite you as you seem nice but I suspect you might not be white enough or straight enough although your ass seems plenty hairy enough.

Au revoir auf wiedersehen arrivderci ciao bon voyage and aloha

"So here we all are on a swinging site engaging in a lifestyle hobby that is the very definition of liberal.

Lol brilliant "

Define the old left liberals?

Your post insinuates that the liberal left have no family values.

I didn't take that at all from their post.

Also, family values can mean a whole host of different things.
